Chapter 13
A few days had passed since she took Geeta in, she only came out of the room a few times to eat and she got some of her old clothes out so she could have some things to cleanup an change if she wanted to. The first time she came across Connor she was defensive and standoff-ish, she figured that the younger girl hadn’t been around humans much so she was adamant about being around them.
She got home early one night and it was rare but so did Connor, so she picked up some Chinese food to bring home. When they got in the door, she heard the tv on as she put her coat up and Connor glanced to her.
“I think she might of fixed herself,” she spoke.
“Fixed herself, confused here,” he says as he takes off his coat and takes the bag of takeout from her.
“Story for another time but let’s put it this way, I think she’s on the start of being ok,” she told him as she walked into the living room as she saw her sitting up on the couch with her arms around her knees pressed to her chest.
He walked in behind her as Geeta turned to look at us and she got off the couch.
“Geeta, it’s ok….sit back down we brought dinner home,” she tells her.
She nods her head as she gets back on the couch, he hands her the bag and walks to the kitchen as he opens the fridge as he says, “Yo, what do you want to drink Eva?”
“Coke,” she spoke as she sat down on the couch next to Geeta as she gets the food out and puts it on the table.
“Coke, too,” Geeta spoke up slightly and it surprised the both of them as she looks up to see him look at her.
“Three cokes coming up,” he spoke as he grabbed three bottles of soda and brought them back to the living room where he handed one to Eva and he sat Geeta’s down on the table.
He just started making progress with the kid and he really wasn’t in the notion of ruining it at the moment.
“I got the beef to our taste….you should like it better,” she told her and Geeta nodded when she handed a smaller white container to her with the beef was slightly cooked in the sauce but nice and rare.
She grabbed one of the plastic forks for her out of the bag as she handed it to her and the younger girl nodded. As she took the fork, she ate slowly at first and then she ate ravenously almost finishing her container before even Eva had a fourth of hers down.
“Theirs more if you want,” she told her and the younger girl nodded as she grabbed another container and started to eat.
“Damn….she can knock it out like you Eva,” he spoke with a smirk and she turned shy almost.
“What can I say wolves can eat, right Geeta,” she spoke.
“Uh Huh,” Geeta says shyly.
After a while as they ate and watched TV……
“Um Eva….is that human your….pet,” she asked her.
Connor nearly choked on his food and the sip of soda she took nearly got sprayed all over the table as she got caught off guard with the question. She wiped her mouth and Connor took a drink of his soda from the bottle to swallow his food and gain his breath. She looked at him slightly as he looked to her, taking a breath before she looked to her as she spoke.
“Actually Connor is my mate, Geeta,” Eva says, “Not my pet.”
“I thought we weren’t allowed to mate with humans unless it was necessary,” she asked her.
“That’s a law made long ago to keep lines pure but it’s just a law….it was never set in stone for us,” Eva tells her. “Each species have different views….do you understand what that means.”
She shook her head no slightly in response.
“Theirs a lot of people that think different about the old laws,” Eva says, “Humans aren’t as bad as our ancestors made them out to be. We made things just as confused as them, so each species thought it needed to keep things pure because they were better. But their was one thing they never thought about when they were making all their rules for us. No one knows who or what their mate will be.”
“So we can choose,” she asked her.
“It’s not really a choice Geeta, it’s just a overwhelming know,” Eva says, “When you meet your mate, you will know right then and there. It’s like a ripple of electricity that goes through your veins.”
“So you knew he was your mate,” she asked her.
“Yeah, I knew….we carry each other’s bite,” Eva says, “Connor was my mate.”
“Don’t worry kid, theirs actually some good humans out there,” Connor tells Geeta.
“He’s actually right,” she says, “I never thought I’d mate with a human but he’s the one I truly connected with.”
“If I can give you one piece of advice….forget our old ways,” Eva says, “When you get older, no matter the species….whoever you find. If you feel that connection, go for it. I did.”
“Connor….um….thank you,” Geeta spoke as she looked shyly over to him.
“Your more than welcome kid,” he says, “Your dad saved Eva and he was a decent guy from what I seen. What’s important to this chick, is important to me. Besides that’s why we became cops, we protect the innocent and you’re a good kid that we’re going to make sure is safe all the way to your new pack.”
“I’ve never met many humans before but…..um….I’m glad to meet you,” she says, “Both of you really, thank you.”
“You don’t need to thank us kid….we’re glad to do it,” he spoke with a smile.
Out of nowhere the girl hugs her tightly and she looks to her and then to Connor as he smiles, she was slightly hesitant but she put her arms around her shoulders as she hugged the younger girl back. This young girl brought out feelings she never knew she could have again, it was odd to her but it also felt right.
When she let go, they all talked a bit and ate the rest of their dinner. They ended watching a bit of TV afterwards and she ended falling asleep against her. She put her arm around her as the younger girl slept deeply.
“You know….your pretty good with her,” he says as he looks to her.
“Shut up,” she spoke with a slight smile.
“Your gonna make a good mom, Eva,” he told her and she noticed the seriousness in his tone.
She blushed slightly as she looked to the younger girl and then looked to him as she says, “Getting a little a head of yourself aren’t ya there….ya ass.”
“Hey I just call it like I see it besides I’m your mate right,” he says, “It’s not like it’s not going to happen down the road.”
“Yeah….one thing you forgot,” she says, “I have a bounty on my head from my own blood and theirs other shifters who know about it. I just want to get her safe before things start to get bad and bloody.”
“You know Connor it’s not to late to leave, I wouldn’t hold it against you if you changed your mind,” she told him.
“Yeah, like that’s going to f*****g happen,” he says, “Eva you have know idea what I’d do for you. Never say that again to me, ever….you understand me. I’m with you always, that’s all there is to it.”
“When did you get all Alpha-ish,” she spoke with a smirk.
“When my pain in the ass mate said something completely stupid and she should know by now,” he says, “I’m not going anywhere no matter what happens.”
“It’s getting late….I should get her to bed,” she tells him.
“I’ll pick her up,” he spoke as he was getting up off the chair and she says.
“I got it,” she spoke as she slid her arm under her legs and the other around her back as she picked her up, when she stood up.
“Your liking this,” he spoke with a smirk.
“Your lucky I’m using both arms or you would so be seeing the bird right now,” she spoke as he turned off the tv.
“Yeah, yeah,” he spoke as he walked with her out of the living room and to the stairs that go to the second floor of the house.
She walked down the hallway as she goes to her room and walks in the bedroom as she lays her down on the bed and pulls up the blanket to her chest. “Don’t worry kid….I’ll make sure you get there safe.”
She spoke as she slid a few loose strands of hair from her face, as she looked to her sleeping face just a moment later she walked out of the room. She closed the door behind her as she walked back down the hallway back to their bedroom. He was sitting on the edge of the bed with his shirt all the way and the top of his pants were undone. She walked over as she put her arms on his shoulders as she straddled his lap.
“Hi,” she spoke as she looked to him and then she pushed him back on the bed.
“You do love being on top, don’t you,” he spoke with a smirk as he grasped her hips as he rolled his hips against her causing her to fall against him.
She propped up on her elbows slightly as she looked down at him as she says, “Well I am a Alpha, after all.”
She said to him as she glided her lips along his jawline and down the side of his throat as she brought his shirt off his shoulder as she exposed the scar of their shared mark. She leaned down and light kissed the mark and she felt the shiver run up his body from the touch as a groan passed his lips. He grasped the back of her head slightly, his fingers tangled in her hair as he brings her head down and crashes their lips together. She moaned slightly against his lips as she broke the kiss as she nipped his bottom lip.
“God, not that I’m complaining but what was that for,” he spoke as he groaned slightly as he gave her a quick but soft kiss to the lips.
She caressed his cheek with her fingertips as she looked to him when she says, “A bit of the wolf in me wanted to show appreciation for the courage you show…..
“And what about this side here,” he says as he slips his fingers from her hair as he caressed the back of her neck.
“This side….this side is grateful she doesn’t have to be alone anymore,” she says, “This side is glad to have one person in her life that won’t bullshit her anymore either. This side is glad it’s you.”
“You know you’re a real freaking tease for getting a guy riled up but I’m glad I met you too,” he told her as he held the side of her face.
“I meant what I said down stairs, I’m with you all the way,” he says, “Whatever comes, I’m with you.”
“I know that but theirs one thing I want you to promise me,” she spoke as she leaned up from his chest slightly as she looked to him.
“Eva….if this is some….
She covers his mouth with both hands as he jerked slightly against the movement as she says, “Just hear me out, ok?”
He nodded his head slightly and she slid her hands off his mouth as she says, “I know you will be there for me and I believe you more then you know. But….
“Eva….
She looks at him and he closed his mouth as she spoke, “It’s not like I don’t believe you Connor, I believe in you still just like I still believe in the old man even after what I know now. That’s why I want you to make me a promise, just to put my mind at ease ok.”
“Ok,” he spoke as he could tell this had been mulling over in her brain repeatedly.
“If things look like their getting bad, I want you too leave,” she says, “I just don’t mean here, I want you to take your mom and go somewhere I know you will be safe. Go anywhere, just don’t be here. I know it’s a lot to ask but if I know your safe that will let me do whatever I have to do to end this.”
“Eva….I
“I’m going to say something I’ve rarely said to anyone but please just promise me,” she says, “That’s the only thing that will keep me safe from whatever comes. If I know your okay, I know I have a real reason to fight with everything I have. Because I know I’ll have you and our home to come back to, so I know I will survive whatever comes.”
“Alright but that’s the only way I’ll keep the promise,” he says, “You have to swear to me, swear on the blood we share that you will come back to me. You can’t say anything but yes, that’s the only way I’ll agree to any of this.”
“Ok,” she spoke as she looked to him.
“As my mate, as the only man I will love,” she says, “I promise you, that I will come back to you no matter what happens.”
“You got that damn right,” he spoke with a smirk as he looked up to her.
She smiled as she says, “Your such a i***t, I swear.”
“Yeah but you’re in love with me so you’re an i***t to,” he spoke.
“Oh hell no,” she spoke as she was going to punch him in the shoulder but as he grasped her wrist and jerked her across him as he wrapped his arms around her.
They were quiet for a moment as they looked to one another as she breaks the silence as she says, “I guess we are really meant for each other….you have to be some sort of a i***t to do what we’re doing.”
He smirks as holds his arms around her as he says, “Yeah we are.”
“Not denying theirs some things I definitely wanna do to you right now,” he says and she ducks her head between his head and shoulder.
“I swear all your blood runs down stairs,” she spoke up.
“Hey I can’t help it….you did straddle me first,” he says and chuckles slightly.
“I swear, sometimes,” she says as she brings her face up as she looks to him when she talks.
He looks up to her as he slides his fingertips through her hair as he says, “What can I say….your beautiful Eva; inside and out.”
Even though they had been together for a while now, she still had a hard time getting use to him calling her that.
“Jackass,” she spoke as she laid her head back on his shoulder.
“Yeah, yeah I know,” he says, “You can call me anything you want as long as you keep your promise.”
She was quiet for a moment before she says, “I promise.”
“Good,” he spoke as he wrapped his arm around her back and his hand laid on her hip.
“Connor,” she spoke as she stayed where she was laying.
“Yeah,” he spoke as she felt his body relax against hers.
“Can we just stay like this,” she spoke.
He smiled as he grasped her hip in reinsurance as he knew what those words really meant coming from her without really saying the actual thing. One of the things that he learned about Eva, since she started opening up to him was even as strong as she was sometimes even her soft side peaked out at times. A side he didn’t think she even realized she had, he knew she was strong and there was a limit to what his human body could do to help her. So whatever he could do for her he would but she never asked much from him even though he wished she would. Since the day she was born, she had always had so much laid on her shoulders and she fought through it always but now after all this that’s going on. His biggest fear is losing her, he wants to help her with whatever transpires but he knows he could get her hurt by getting in the way. It made him feel weak when he thought about it but he knew she was right when she made him promise.
All he ever wanted to do was protect her but he knew the only way he could was just being there for her as much as he could. He knew if interfered and something went wrong and he lost her. Connor could never forgive himself, he cared for her to much and that’s why even if she didn’t ask directly which she never would. He would hold her for as long as she needed, even keep a promise like this even if he wished he could say no; it would just put more weight on her shoulders then she needed.
“I was already planning on keeping you here….so no point asking,” he said with a smirk as he placed a kiss to her temple.
He brought his other up as he leaned over as he flicked the switch on the lamp that resides on the nightstand right near the bed. Then he pulled her tighter to him as he felt her relax slightly against his body. She slipped her hand across his bare stomach as she wrapped her arm around his waist as she turned her head where her cheek was pressed against his shoulder.
“You mind grabbing food for dinner tomorrow,” she says, “I’ve gotta stop by Angelo’s tomorrow and I’ll probably be late.”
“Geeta’s papers in yet,” he spoke up when he heard her.
“Not sure….I told him to keep contact with if only for the necessities,” she says, “I don’t want Angelo to get caught up in this mess. He was my dad’s like only friend for years, mine as well.”
“Kinda hate to see the kid go,” he says, “She seems like she feels less….
“Not saying….I wouldn’t be against her staying here but I promised Marcus,” she says, “I’d keep her safe, getting her away from me and the hell out of Colorado. The kid has nobody….cause of me. I’ve got to do what’s best for her and what I promised Marcus.”
When he listened to her tone of voice when she spoke, he could tell the sadness and aggression in her tone. He knew she blamed herself for Marcus’ death and all he wanted to do was comfort her an tell her it wasn’t her fault and she can’t hold herself accountable. But he knew Eva and it wouldn’t matter what he said, she would still blame herself no matter what was said.
