Chapter 7            Over the next few weeks things were slow at work, so Connor was able to take the time off when he put the request in. She asked if he just wanted to bring his stuff over the night before so they can leave early that morning with the car already packed. So after they got off their shift, he went back to his place and packed a duffle bag then went back to her place later on that night with his gear in a duffel bag. She ordered them some Chinese food for dinner that night and when he noticed the take out on the table in the living room with a couple of beers.            “Chinese food,” he spoke with a smirk as he put his large duffel bag by the door and he walked into the living room as he saw the food and beer.            “Oh shut up,” she says, “I’m a Lycan….not a dog….not a beast either you dick.”            “Shut the hell up….that’s not even what I was thinking,” he says with a smirk as he glanced to her.            “What….don’t you like Chinese food,” she asked as she walked over and sat on the couch then she picked up her beer and took a drink.            “Yeah, I like Chinese food, who doesn’t,” he spoke as he slid his coat off and laid it over the back of the couch as he walked around the edge as he sat near her and looked through the food she got.            “Order enough,” he says with a chuckle as he picks up a white container and some chopsticks.            “One screw you and two bite me,” she says, “I didn’t know what you liked and plus I can eat. My metabolism….well we kind of burn calories quicker so we eat more.”            “I can believe that….and not believe that,” he says as he looks her over slightly.            “You can’t really eat that much theirs not a ounce of fat on you,” he spoke and she choked slightly on her beer as she listened to the compliment and it took her off guard.            “Oh shut up….will ya,” she spoke out as her cheeks were slightly flushed.             “What, its true….you forget I saw your stomach when I was sewing it up,” he said as she picked up a white carton up and picked up a pair of chop sticks as she picked up a few noddles as she took a bite another bite to finish off the few noodles dangling between the chop sticks.            “Oh my god will you shut up,” she says out loud but couldn’t help but chuckle slightly.               She picked through her food a bit as she couldn’t help but smile as she remembered something her dad use to say that was kind of the same thing.             “My dad kind of use to say something like that when I was growing up,” she said as she picked up another noodle with her chopsticks as she took a bite.              He looked to her as he smiled.            “Sometimes he would call me his little nova star,” she spoke as she couldn’t help but chuckle as she thought about it. “I know that might sound stupid but it was special to me. I was his little nova star, his center of importance. I always knew I was special to him.”            “It doesn’t sound stupid,” he says, “My dad bailed the night my mom told him she was pregnant with me. She didn’t have any family but she had this friend Marie she met through the hospital. They were both left by assholes weird way to make friends but they both were alone and pregnant. Me and her son, John grew up together….hell the guy was pretty much my brother; we even joined the military together. Our second tour, he was killed by a I.A.D while he was doing a night ride along with another group. I went numb when I was told he was killed, telling his mother who was my family I think was even worse.”            She couldn’t help but stare at the food at the moment and then she sat it on the table. Eva was slightly hesitant but she brought her hand up as she lightly laid her hand on his shoulder as she caressed it slightly and when she noticed him looking sad.             “p***y,” she says with a smirk.                    He turns as he looks to her with an angered face and then he smiles as he says, “Well aren’t you a f*****g ray of sunshine, guys pouring his heart out here and you call him a p***y. Nice talk.”            She smiled as she says, “I’m a Langstone, playing psychologist isn’t one of our strong suits. Besides theirs this asshole who the captain stuck me with and wouldn’t leave me alone even though I told him over and over again it was for his best. Jackass, even called me a b***h a few times but somehow that i***t cracked my walls down I built over the years to keep people out. Female wolves don’t stay with Beta’s they only mate with a Alpha because wolves are strong.”            “I’m not a wolf,” he spoke.            She laid her hand on his chest where his heart was beating so strong as she says, “But your heart beat is as strong as one. I wouldn’t have let you in a mile near me, if I didn’t think you did.”            He lays his hand over hers and for some reason she didn’t move her hand, until a few moments passed and she slipped her hand from underneath his as she grabbed her beer.              “Sorry…. Things like this…all of it I’m still learning,” she tells him before she takes a drink from her beer bottle.              “This really is all new to you, isn’t it,” he says, “No bullshit, honest question. Why haven’t you ever dated….I mean Eva your hot…smart, loyal to your word a bit of a b***h….     She rolled her eyes at the comment as she took drink from the bottle.   "But you really are a hell of a woman....no bullshit aside....why haven't you really dated anyone before me....well I guess I'm saying," he says, "I mean....you could of been with another one of your kind. Why....   "Someone like you.....," she says as she finishes his sentence as she glances at him slightly and then she looks back at the brown fluid swirling in the bottle she held in both of her hands.   "Yeah....I mean....Eva everything I told you I mean't," he says, "I'm in love with you....and yeah....that might come out sounding like a bit of a p***y way but I really care for you."   She was quiet for a moment as she thought about what he was asking and then she spoke as she says, "I've been hit on before but it was just never right....Well I guess you could say never felt right, even some of them were my own kind not only wolves so to speak."   She went quiet again for a moment and then she spoke with a slight smirk as she says, "How is it you humans like to say, the heart knows before the brain; when they know they found the right match."   “That’s not quiet the right way to say it but it gets the point across," he spoke with a smirk as he grabbed his beer and took a drink.   "If were being honest I guess it was your eyes," she spoke as she glanced to him. "My eyes," he repeated as he brought the spout from his lips as he looked to her.   "Yeah," she says, "You can lie through your teeth with words but your eyes and your heart. They tell more the truth then anybody could ever understand. Dad use to tell me that all the time, he would always say.....Bullshit comes from the mouth but the truth lies in the heart and shows in the eyes."   "Eva....," he spoke.   "The night you told me you loved me....I knew you were telling the truth....your eyes were real and open....your heart was beating out of your chest....with hope I would return your feelings, right?"   He huffed a breath as he smirked slightly as he says, "Yeah....it was."   "I always thought the old man was spouting that crap because he didn’t want me believing that I didn’t deserve love like everyone else," she says, "The first time I met you in the Captain's office I finally understood what the old man mean’t and it scared the living s**t out of me. I'm not human and when I'm with you I feel like it's alright to feel again, to actually open up and it’s been quite a few years since that. So you have to understand that's why I'm so.....   "Nervous....," he says when he takes another sip from the bottle.   "Yes/No," she says, "Yes....knowing I can feel like that for someone and also that a bit angry as well because....don't take this the wrong way. It's just knowing a human that could feel anything for me like that and not even my own kind, that had the thoughts going through my head in a hell of war with one another."   "I guess I can understand that," he says, "My mom always wanted me to bring home a nice girl....and I'm bringing home a white girl with a chip on her shoulder. She's going to throw a serious s**t fit."   She spit out her beer by accident as she put the bottle on the table to grab a napkin as she wiped her lips and chin off as she says, "Meeting your mom....what the fuck."   "In a couple of weeks is her birthday and the block she lives in usually throughs her a hell of a backyard bash," he says, "I was planning on asking you if you wanted to go."   “Are you kidding me,” she asked.   “If you don’t want to I understand,” he spoke as he looked to her.   “Well….it’s just….I…..Are you really sure you want to be with me in the first place,” she says, “I mean there’s plenty of human females that would flock to you, your smart and well….don’t get a complex but your pretty good looking.”   “You think I’m good looking,” he says slightly taken back and then smirks as he grasps her chin and leans over as he gives her a soft kiss on the lips.            She closed her eyes for a moment as she leaned into the kiss slightly as she opened her eyes a moment later as she says, “Shut up.”   “I could meet a 100 different women and none of them would compare to you,” he says as he grasped the back of her neck as he caressed the lower nape of her neck with his thumb.            She closed her eyes for a moment as she bit her lower lip at the feel of his touch on her skin, her skin became so sensitive when he touched her.   “Does that line really work on women,” she spoke as she opened her eyes as she looked to him.   “Don’t know you’re the first one I’ve used it on,” he says, “I’m not going to say I’m some altar boy when it comes to women but when I say I love you and I want to be with you. I mean it with everything I am, I really do love you Eva.”   “Your such an ass….,” she says as she grabs his arm slightly as she nuzzled the side of his palm slightly as she spoke, then she slipped from his grasp as she said. “We gotta get up early if we wanna make the cabin by night fall. Get some sleep.”            She gets up from the couch as she walked over to the closet by her stairs, opened it up and tossed him a pillow and blanket.   He caught the blanket and pillow, looking slightly confused for a moment as she took the few couple of stairs as she leaned on the banister and looked to him.   “Just cause we’re going away together doesn’t mean your coming up stairs yet,” she says, “Dad raised me old school in our tradition’s so the first steps are going pretty good so far. Good night.”   “Oh and Connor,” she spoke as she walking up the steps.   “I’d really like to go to her birthday….your mom’s that is if its ok with you,” she spoke as she disappeared upstairs and went into the room closing the door behind her.            She heard a yes downstairs and she couldn’t help but smile as she brought her hand up slightly as she touched her lips to feel the smile. Its been so long since she’s really smiled like this and it was all because of him. She asked her dad once when she was young, when she would look at picture of him and his wife and asked about her. He would tell her stories of her and how they met, she asked him how he knew she was the one for him.   “Lily….I was kind of like you when I was young…..lost in my thoughts and didn’t understand things,” he says, “When I was with her, I did things I never thought I would ever do and it was all just to keep her smiling and happy. I hated classical music….but she loved the violin, so she would drag me to concerts even as much as I disliked them I went anyways. I would never admit it to her but the more I went I actually started to like it myself, anybody that knew me wouldn’t believe if they saw me at a concert.”            He would tell me stories of her sometimes but some he couldn’t finish because they were a bit to hard to get through for him but I don’t think he would of chose anyone over her. She was hybrid vampire, her mother was vampiric and her father was human. She had the vampire trait’s but both of her parents were killed when she was growing up; she just did her best to mix along with the humans and kept her head down until she met him. He always said, in some ways I always think we were each other’s chance for pure happiness. She passed away from a vampiric virus, a few years before I came into his life.   “I think I finally understand what you mean you meddling old man,” she spoke as she grasped her shirt as she closed her eyes slightly as she leaned back against the door.            The next day, she made breakfast after she got ready and he took a shower and got dressed as he came back downstairs to smell of fresh coffee, eggs and sausages.   “And she cooks too,” he spoke as he came downstairs with his shirt unbuttoned and a pair of jeans and his shoes on.            She never realized how built he was under his clothes until she caught a glance and she would never admit it but it definitely raised her levels towards him.   “Is that a compliment,” she spoke as she started to plate the food.   “Depends…..am I going to get food poisoning afterwards,” he spoke with a straight face and then broke out laughing as she threw a dish towel at him.   “Damn you ruined the surprised…..I wanted to get you totally sick so I could dump your sorry ass,” she spoke with a smirk.   “That’s cold,” he spoke when he tried to stop laughing.   “Oh shut the hell up….you’re not going to get sick….I’m actually not that bad of a cook,” she says as she slides a plate up to the seat across from the island stove she was cooking from.   “Aunty taught me how to cook, since dad couldn’t boil water,” she spoke as she got a couple of mugs down and she filled both cups up as she slid one across from him.   “Aunty,” he spoke as he picked up the mug of coffee and took a drink.   “That’s pretty good coffee,” he spoke.    “I’m not the type that likes to really blow cash on myself but when it comes to my coffee, I guess it’s a cops thing,” she says, “I figure if I’m going to splurge on anything it might as well be useful. It’s a good blend, it’s got a bit of cinnamon in it.”   “Really,” he asked.   “Yeah, Angelo always orders extra for me when he gets his,” she tells him as she picks up her plate and sits next to him on the kitchen isle. He takes a few bites of the eggs as she takes a drink of the coffee as she held the mug in both hands.   “Not my mom’s cooking….   “You suck,” she says as she nudges his shoulder hard            He chuckles as he says but its really pretty good as he takes another bite as he chews with a smirk and she spoke, “Be glad I like you.”   “I am,” he says as he caught her off guard as he kissed her on the lips quick but soft.   “Oh, that’s just wrong,” she spoke as she gave him such a dirty look although she couldn’t keep it straight for long before she chuckled slightly.   “So, what’s this cabin like,” he asked.   “It’s a bit of a drive but its not to far from this small town, that’s got some decent little diners in it and my aunt has a clinic in there,” she tells him.   “She couldn’t stand being in the same place for to long could she,” he asked.             “No….after Caleb….and then my Dad…..just to many bad memories for her,” she says, “She’s apologized to me so many times because she wanted to move. I think she felt like she was abandoning me too that’s why she always apologizes when I get the chance to see her.”   “Caleb….he was the friend you were talking about,” he spoke as he took a drink of the coffee from the mug.   “Yeah,” she says as she looks to the coffee that kind of swirled in the mug as she looked to it as she held it in her both hands.   “Caleb….might a been a mix but the guy was like a brother to me,” she spoke with a smile. “One time….when we were about 15….somehow I talked dad into letting me go see this horror movie. It was like vampires vs werewolves and stuff….God it was so cheesy but me an Caleb, begged dad to talk too his mom into letting him go so the movie with me. Dad always could sweet talk people when he wanted to. So….he took us to the theater, bought us the tickets and slipped me some extra cash for snacks and told us to call as soon as the movie was over and you know he would come and get us.”            She couldn’t help but chuckle as she remembered the memory and spoke, “The place was filled with humans….a lot of our kind didn’t really….well….weren’t into that kind of thing. But me and him, we loved those cheesy….just horrible bad horror movies. Cause the story was just s**t and the transformations; just the whole concept of it. While they were screaming, cause it was just so terrifying to them and me an Caleb would laugh our ass off, booing the movie and throwing popcorn at the screen. It was just simple s**t like that made growing up for us fun. Its kind of funny when you think of it, one real vampire and a real lycan were sitting in the audience and they were screaming that this cheesy horror movie monsters were just so terrifying. I mean like the monsters, that showed up on screen were just so tacky you couldn’t help but laugh. I guess to us it was funny because we were the real thing and we were just…..I don’t know…..   “That does sound kind of funny….you guys were really close,” he spoke.   “Yeah,” she says as she glances to him. “When we were together and it was the same thing with dad, it wasn’t about being a vampire hybrid or were-tiger or lycan….it was just us. Dad was dad, Caleb was Caleb….a scrawny little brat and I was just Eva, we were never monsters in front of each other we were just us. And Luca’s mom, even though she was human when she looked at us….there was never fear or hatred….just love. She always told me, to come over if I ever need to have girl time.”   “You had a helluva a family at least your aunt’s still around and you got me to now….ya know,” he spoke as he looked to her.   “Plus….your kind of got my mom’s no bullshit personality so I can guarantee she’s pretty much going to love you,” he spoke as he played it off with a smirk.   “Oh yeah….you’re mom is just going to love that your girlfriend isn’t human,” she spoke as she rolled her eyes.   “Did you just….totally roll your eyes at me,” he spoke as he put his mug down and stood up from the stool he was sitting on.   She slipped up from her seat as she put her mug down as he stepped closer as she says, “What the hell are you doing?”   “Well….if you don’t take back that asinine comment I’m going to do something to you that you won’t expect,” he spoke as he put his hand on the counter.   “What the hell are you planning….you ass,” she spoke as she took a step back.   “That’s it,” he spoke as he picked her up and hauled her over his shoulder and smacked her across the ass.   “Oww….you son offuva b***h,” she says as she wrestles in his grip and she felt him smack her across the ass again and she growled out again with her fangs barred. “Fine….fine…..I’m sorry for the monster comment,” she says, “So put me down you lumberjack.”   “Not sure I want to,” he spoke.            Her cheeks were flushed from the comment and it just wasn’t the cheeks of her ass from the two licks from his hand.            He rubbed the left cheek slightly and she gasped as she covered her mouth slightly as she tensed up as she spoke, “Come on, put me down.”   “Ok,” he spoke as he put her down to stand.   “Jackass,” she spoke as she rubbed her ass slightly.   “You know….I’m not going to deny that was kind of a turn on,” he spoke.   “You know….you make things difficult,” she spoke as she glanced to the side.   “Well you make things hard….so were even,” he told her honestly.   “Oh my god….who the hell am I being mated to,” she says as she walks over and gets her coffee mug filled up.            She couldn’t help but laugh as she listened to him as they finished up breakfast and left her house as they got on the road, since they took her car instead.            A few hours on the road…..   “Ok….this is too quiet for my taste,” he spoke as he sits back in the seat.   “Well….what do you want to talk about then,” she spoke as she glanced at him slightly before she focused back on the road.   “Well….how about we start with the basics,” he asked.   “Alright….I guess that’s fair,” she says, “What do you want to ask?”   “Ok, since your new to the whole dating thing lets start with the basics,” he says, “What’s your favorite color?”   “My favorite color,” she spoke a little surprise and started to laugh. “Really, my favorite color….You really just asked me what my favorite color is?”   “Yeah, I want to know what your favorite color is,” he says, “Guys dating….the color thing is actually a really important thing to know for us.”            She was slightly confused at the answer as she asked, “Why would my favorite color be so important….Um, I don’t understand that.”   “Well, when guys f**k up…..usually they like to get jewelry with their girlfriends favorite color of stone in it, flowers or some s**t kinda like that,” he spoke as tilted his head to the side as he looked to her.   “Oh….well….to be honest….I don’t like flowers and jewelry I’m really not into all that gaudy s**t if you want the truth,” she says, “I’m pretty simple when it comes to that kind of stuff.”   “You know now after that little comment of yours, you have to marry me because those words are pretty much the dream every man has had when they think they found the one….when they get a girl,” he spoke with a pretty straight face.   “You’ve got to be kidding me right,” she spoke with a smirk.   “Nope it’s true….Eva….you’re not some high maintenance bimbo, excuse the term but your….you,” he says, “You’re not like everybody else, at least not like anybody I’ve ever met before.”            She blushed at the comment as she coughed slightly in embarrassment as she kept her eyes on the road.   “And I don’t mean it because of the whole wolf thing….when I watch you work on a case you never give it less than a 100%,” he says, “That’s a rare quality you don’t see in very many people now a days.”            She was quiet for a moment at how his words affected her as she listened to him every word that came out of his mouth was the actual truth.   “Ok….ok….enough with the gushing over me,” she spoke and he chuckled at her.   “So what’s your favorite color then,” she asked him.   “Jade,” he spoke.   “Jade…..that was quick…..sure not a ex-girlfriend’s name,” she spoke as she glanced at him slightly as she noticed him smirk slightly.   “Why…..jealous,” he spoke to her as he looked her way.   “In your dreams….ass,” she spoke.   He couldn’t help but laugh out loud because he noticed the embarrassment in her voice and he found it kind of cute but he knew she would hate being called that.   “Actually….it’s the color of my mom’s eyes,” he tells her.   “You know I got to say I kind of thought that was your real reason all along momma’s boy,” she says with a light chuckle.   “Oh yeah if I’m a momma’s boy…..you got daddy’s little girl written all over you,” he spoke and after a moment they both broke out laughing at each other. She had to wipe a few tears from her eyes, laughing so hard was another new experience for her…..being with him really brought a lot of firsts out for her.   “What can I say….the woman raised me practically by herself so I guess I would be a bit of a momma’s boy,” he says as he scratches the back of his neck slightly.   “There’s nothing wrong with that, I guess I am kind of the same with the old man,” she says, “He just did so much for me growing up. I never felt sad, lonely, unloved….who wouldn’t want to be a guy like him and he was a hell of a cop.”   “I’ll second that,” he spoke.   “You know you could have been anything different growing up…..I mean I know he was a cop but you could have done something else career wise,” he asked her.   “I won’t deny I had some different ideas on what I wanted to be growing up but I think it was my lycan blood, my wolf blood….to protect has always ran through my veins. I guess it was just something I was meant to be; that must sound kind of weird. Doesn’t it?,” she spoke.   “Not really….I mean you were raised by a cop….like you said your wolf blood as well….I mean wolves protect their pack so if anything it sounds like you picked the right line of work,” he tells her.   “You know Angelo told me the same thing once,” she said and he glanced at her when she spoke. “Kind of funny.”            They talked off and on during the drive when they finally made it to town as they drove in through the main street.   “Your right, it is a nice town,” he spoke as he looked at the small-town stores and things.   “I know its not like what were use too but it’s nice to get out here when you need to clear your head,” she says, “Also the people are pretty quiet around here.”   “I can see why you like it here,” he says as he looks around and then she heard his stomach growl.   “Hungry,” she asked.   “Yeah, starved actually,” he spoke.   “Me too,” she says, “Theirs an old school diner near my Aunt’s vet place. The foods all homemade but it’s some of the best you’ll eat.”   “Sounds good to me,” he says, “Why don’t you call up your Aunt see if she’s not busy and have her eat with us.”   “You….wouldn’t mind….you sure,” she asked.   “Hell no, Eva….anybody that’s important to you is important to me,” he says to her. “Also it will give me a chance to get embarrassing stories out of her about you from when you were a kid.”   “I so knew that was the real reason,” she said with a slight growl.   “Kidding,” he says as he raised his hands in defeat. “Partially.”   “Asshole,” she spoke as she tried to hide the smile that was forming on her lips as she found a parking spot in front of the busy diner.            She turned off her ignition and then she slid her phone from her pocket as she pressed a button and she put it to her ear after two rings a older woman answered.   “Eva….honey….its been a while since I’ve heard from you,” she says.   “I’m sorry Aunty work has been so busy I haven’t had a chance to come to the cabin or see you,” Eva says, “Think you could spare a couple of minutes for dinner plans with me at the family diner.”   “Wait are you here in town…..,” she asked her.   “I’m parked right out front of it actually and I brought someone with me,” she spoke as she glanced to him slightly.   “Eva….would this someone be special I’m hoping,” Aunty spoke.   “Yeah….,” she says as she bites her lower lip as she looks out the driver’s window. “Very special.”   “Gimmie 15 minutes and grab us a booth…..I’m looking forward to meeting this mystery man,” Aunty spoke and she could already imagine the smile on the older woman’s face when she sees her.   She hung up the phone and slipped her cell back in her pocket.   “Very special…,” he says with a smirk.   “Oh shut the hell up and get out,” she spoke as she growled slightly mixed with a chuckle as she grabbed her keys and got out of the car as he got out as well. She closed the door and he closed his next as she stepped up on the curb as he followed her into the restaurant. He unzipped his coat and she unbuttoned the front of hers as she slid her coat off and the hostess was already greeting them a moment later.   “Hi, sweetheart will it just be you two,” this sweet southern elder woman asked us.   “Actually, somebody will be meeting us in a bit,” she says, “Don’t worry she knows her way around this diner.”   “Well, ok, honey….if you two will follow me….will get you a nice little table,” she spoke with a smile as she walked in front of her and Conner looked at her and she tried not to laugh but it was hard.   “Here you two go,” she says with a smile as she lays down three menu’s and silverware.   “So….what can I get you two to drink while you wait,” she asked them.   “Take a coke,” she says, “And when my aunt comes she’ll want a sweet tea extra ice.”   “Not a problem honey,” The elder woman says with a smile.   “And you sugar,” she asked Connor.   “Coke…too,” he says with a smile.   “Two cokes coming up,” she says with a smile as she walks back through the crowded diner.   “Sugar, Honey,” he repeated and then looked to her.   “I told you it was an old-time type of diner,” she tells him as she puts her coat on the back of her chair.            He slipped his coat on the back of his own chair as he says, “Old is a understatement but I will say it does smell pretty good in here.”   “Told you….it’s all homemade here…..it’s a straight up human place,” she tells him.   “Human aside….I do feel like I’m getting a bit of the eye with being with a white chick,” he spoke as he looked around as he caught a few glances.            She chuckled slightly as she lightly grasped his chin as she looked to him as she says, “They can kiss my ass….besides your mocha….my wolven side is more dark chocolate than you are.”   “Mocha, huh….,” he says with a smirk as he looks at her and he lightly grasped her wrist. She smiled as she lightly kissed him on the lips in the restaurant.   She instantly started to hear soft chatter as people ate their dinners and he says, “Not that I’m complaining but what was that for?”   “You should know by now I never listen to what people say about me,” she spoke as she looked to him.   “Yeah, I’m starting to learn that about you,” he says as he leans over near her ear slightly and he whispers against her ear. “Have to say that it really is a turn on.”            She went beat red across the cheeks as she turned away from him and he chuckled as he held her wrist for a few more moments before he released his grip.   “Letch,” she spoke in a soft tone and he chuckled slightly as he glances to her.  “Sorry….it’s just your expressions….It’s hard not to want to tease you a bit,” he tells her.            She didn’t say anything as she nodded slightly and the elder waitress sat our drinks in front of us. It was only a few minutes later, when her Aunt showed up later as she walked into the diner and through the crowd to our table.   “Eva….honey it’s so good to see you,” the older woman spoke with a smile as Eva got up and walked over as they hugged one another.   “It’s so good to see you Aunty,” Eva spoke as she hugged her back and then she turned to Connor.   “Okay….your not getting away without a hug,” her aunt says to Connor as she looks to him.   “Aunty this is Connor, Connor this is my Aunt Leira Lowelway,” Eva spoke as she turned to Connor.   Connor gets up as he says, “It’s a pleasure Miss Lowelway,” He spoke with a smile and her aunt looked to her then him as she grabbed his hand and then pulled him into a hug.   “Anybody this little girl brings to meet me,” she says, “I already know is a good person in my book.”   “It’s really nice to meet you,” he spoke as he hugged her back and she says. “You call me, Leira or Aunty too….got it.”   “Yes, ma’am,” he spoke with a smile as we all took a seat at the table.   “My name is Connor Embry,” he tells her.   “So, Connor Embry….how did you meet my Eva,” she asked him.   “Actually we work together at the district,” he tells her.   “The Captain wouldn’t keep riding my ass…..   “Eva….,” she spoke out.   “Sorry…..I meant that the Captain wouldn’t let it go that I wasn’t working with a partner and next thing I know I get stuck with this dork….here,” Eva says with a chuckle as she looks to him.            He looks to her with a smile as she says, “I’m a dork, now…..I’ll take it.”   “The captain told me about her before he assigned me to be her partner and even after what he told me. I still wanted to be assigned with her,” he says, “Eva isn’t like most of the guys at the precinct, she still thinks about the people….not another notch on the belt to get a head in the field. Theirs not very many of those kind of cops around anymore since Mr. Langstone, in my opinion.”   “You knew Robert,” she asked.   “I got to meet him a few times after I got out of the military,” he says, “I really wasn’t sure what my next step should be when I got out. That was until I got the chance to talk with him a few times and well next thing I know I’m signing up for the academy. My mom wasn’t exactly happy to hear that I was going from one dangerous position into another but I went into the military because I wanted to make a difference and also if anything happened to me. I wanted to make sure my mom was well taken care of; just in case of worse scenario wise. She raised me by herself and worked her ass off so I wanted to make sure she would be able to take it easy, just you know in the possible worse case.”   “What does your mother do,” She asked her.   “Well, with what I saved up from pay from the military I wanted her to achieve her dream since I did mine,” he says, “She just finished her nursing degree a few months back, so right now she’s putting her resume out to different hospital and things like that.”   “Well….if your mom is ever looking for the quiet life,” she says, “The doctor in town just lost his main nurse a few weeks ago, her husband’s work got transferred to New York so he’s been looking for somebody to fill the position. I know the old guy pretty well, for a family practice he pays his people pretty good.”   “My mom is kind of stuck in her ways, I don’t know if she would ever consider the move but I’ll let her know about the position,” he tells her.   “That’s great,” she says with a smile.   “I have to say, you are honestly a breath of fresh air….I’ve been really worried about Eva and knowing she has someone like you,” she says, “Gives this old heart a bit of relief.”   “Aunty….what the hell,” she spoke out embarrassed.   “What….I’m just telling the truth,” Leira says, “Eva….I hated leaving you back there by yourself but after Caleb and then Robert. The memories there….they were just getting to painful for me.”            Eva slid her hands across the table as she held her hands with hers as she says, “Aunty….I never was angry with you and I understand why you had to leave believe me I do. Every year, after dad’s death and before Caleb’s…..Honestly if it wasn’t for meeting him….I don’t think I could of made it through another year. It was just getting harder and harder to even get up in the morning but I met him and it actually made this year semi tolerable.”            Connor looked at her and he was slightly speechless when he heard her actually say those words.   “I think you made the poor boy speechless, honey,” she says with a light chuckle.            Eva chuckles to herself as she looked to him and her feelings changed for a moment but she didn’t let it show on her face as she picked up a dangerous scent that could become problematic quickly if she didn’t handle it quietly.   “Hey aunty….the waitress….is heading over,” Eva says, “You know what I like to eat, will you order for me I’ll be right back.”   “Sure….honey,” she says as she looks to her as she watched Eva get up and walk to the back where the restrooms were.            Eva listened to them as they talked as she made her way to the back and she walked through the back as she pushed open the exit door that was down the same hallway as the bathrooms. She walked outside as their was just a few street lights on in the back but that didn’t matter; because she knew already what was waiting for her outside.
