Chapter 6              He came back to her place later on that night after grabbing a shower and he actually cleaned up pretty nice so to speak. He had a leather jacket on because it was a bit cold that night when he came back to her place. As he arrived, he knocked on her door slightly and he heard from the inside “Come on in….I’ll be done in a moment.”            He opened the door and walked in, closing the door behind him as he scuffed the snow slightly off his shoes on the pad by the door. She walks down a few moments later down the steps and he looked up to her as he couldn’t help but stare when he say her.            “What,” she says as the way he was looking at her was embarrassing the hell right out of her.            “Um….well you just look….            “I can dress like a girl sometimes when I want ok….lets not make a big thing out of it,” she spoke as her cheeks were slightly flushed as she grabbed her jacket as she slid it on.            She wore a pair of black boots, dark jeans as well as a wine colored blouse with no sleeves and her hair pulled back in a ponytail.             “Ok….so what’s this place your taking me to,” he spoke as he stood there by the doorway as he looked to her.            “Colorado….you wouldn’t think as a big place for our type of people but some of them rather prefer the cold…shifters mostly but decays, vampires and some warlocks are partial to the scenery,” she says, “You’ve only seen Angelo’s and Haven the club from the murder case with the kid.”                    “That kid what he did to that guy was un-f*****g believable I hope he gets the death penalty,” he spoke out without thinking and she took a step away from him and spoke.            “That so called murderer, was just a innocent kid in the wrong place at the wrong time,” she tells him as she slides her hand down her face slightly as she tried to calm herself down because the comment actually got her a bit pissed.            “Do you understand that kid couldn’t help himself and he was set up,” she spoke out as she looked to him.            “He killed someone…..what the hell….” He spoke and cut himself off when things began to click for him and then he realized what she meant.                    “The kid was a shifter; wasn’t he,” he asked her.             “He was adopted by a human family and didn’t realize what he was until he got into his teens,” he says, “He was in heat….which made him a problem but not a danger until the hunter walked in and attacked him, slipping anthro-toxin into his system. It blows are animalistic senses all the way to the surface and we have no clue what were doing and that’s what makes hunting us so much easier because were not thinking like we should. He’s a good kid but he had no clue what he was doing either and so was the newbie hunter that attacked him. Attacking a shifter during a mating season is stupid but doing it solo was even dumber because that’s when were at our most dangerous as well as our most reckless because the anthro-toxin just completely confuses our senses.”            “s**t Eva….I didn’t know, if I did I wouldn’t have said something like that,” he said as he took a step towards her and she stayed still this time.             “It’s not your fault your still new to this world but if your going to survive in it you need to realize that everything in this world now isn’t so cut and dry like you might have thought,” she told him.            “We might be monsters but there are some hunters in the world that are just as bad as us if not worse,” she says, “Some of them don’t want to live by human rules but the rest of us…..like me. We just want peace….we don’t want to cause issues if anything we just want to be left alone just like everybody else.”            “Guess there is a lot I got to learn,” he told her.            “Everything takes time….if you want to learn that is,” she told him as she opened the door and walked past him an he turned and stepped back out the doorway as he walked back out on her porch as she locked the door.            “So where is this place we’re going,” he spoke as he glanced to her when she walked down the steps of her porch.            “There’s a place….its about a hours drive on the outskirts of town,” she says, “Do you mind the drive?” She asked him.          “Nadda,” he spoke as he followed her behind as they walked over towards her car and he got in the passenger side when she got in the drivers side and closed the door when she took her seat.            Turning on the ignition she started to drive down the street and make her way through town. It was quiet between the two of them for a while, he was the first one to break the silence.            “Ok, so I know I’ve asked before but what’s this place were going to anyways,” he asked her.            “It’s called Eclipse….it’s a underworld’s bar but it’s a bit higher class compared to Haven,” she says, “Fights and things like that don’t happen there….like ever. It’s owned by a Upper class vampire leader Ethan Draconis, he’s old school….in honesty he’s more like the Elder of his kind. All types are allowed in his place, it’s a nice tavern-like restaurant place. His place caters to all types as long as you keep to your own business and don’t disturb others when they are doing their own thing.”            “Own thing,” he asked as he glanced to her.            She was quiet for a moment before she spoke because she was trying to think of the best way to say it but their really wasn’t anyway to really put it nicely so she just said it.            “Feeding,” she spoke and she noticed how he was quiet for a moment.            “Feeding…feeding….like on people,” he asked her.            “Before your brain gets to a head of itself,” she says, “Ethan….is a modernized elder so to speak. He serves synthetic and donor blood from Plasma places he owns and if there are any feedings its only because the person that is with them is willing allowing it on themselves. He doesn’t allow any vampire in his district to openly feed on what you would call a victim or someone like that. He knows how many issues dead bodies would cause to us and that hunters will be brought in town if there is to high of a body count with a few holes in them, so that has been how he has worked here for the last few hundred years.”            “Oh,” he spoke.            “A lot of humans….I guess have been glamorized by the movies on vampires and are more open to being with them….relationship wise and allows them to periodical feed on themselves if the need is called for,” she tells him.            “Uh….what about like ghouls and things like that,” he asked and she could hear the slight hesitance in his voice when he spoke.            “Morgues….bodies that were willingly donated so they can feed and nobody ever gets hurt,” she tells him and she could hear his heartbeat spike slightly but then it started to relax after a few minutes when she glanced at him as she saw how deep in thought he was trying to comprehend what she just told him.            “You ok,” she asked him as she kept her eyes on the road as she drove.            “Yeah,” he says, “I’m good.”            “I heard your heart skip a beat….you sure,” she asked once more.            “Yeah,” he says as he turns his head slightly as he looked to her as he spoke. “I told you, I’m good and I mean’t it. Just somethings you’ve seen on the screen for years growing up that you were told were fairytales and fiction….are well actually really real. It takes your head a bit to wrap around it but in someways, when you hear about it like this it also kind of makes sense as well.”            She was slightly confused at his answer and she stayed quiet for a bit more before he started to talk again.            “I asked my mom once when she was reading me this fairy tale when I was little it was my favorite story,” he says, “I asked if monsters like that were real in the world and she said, every tale may it be fairy or fiction some parts were based on some truth. I didn’t understand then but after growing up, things like that in a way started to made sense. I don’t know why but even then I believed those kind of things could be real in the world. It’s kind of weird when ya think about that, even though I should be shocked an in awe I’m actually oddly ok with it.”            He says with a bit of a chuckle as he says, “So what about you?”            “What about me,” she asked as she drove.            “Well….what do you….you know,” he asked her.            “You mean….do I have to kill or eat humans,” she says, “Is that what your trying to ask?”                    “Well….if were going to be honest with one another….then yeah I guess that’s what I’m asking,” he spoke.            “No, I don’t kill or eat humans or have I ever,” she says, “Dad….would take me on hunts once or a couple of times a month when I needed it or he did and we hunted animals. Plus it made taking form a lot safer for me and him as well; so nobody could see us while we hunted. We always hunted animals, deer meat was always the best it always kept the wolf in me quiet and stopped it from scratching at the walls.”            “Scratches at the walls,” he spoke.                    “You know, when you get a hunger for something and when you finally get a taste of it,” she says, “You just feel….I’m not really sure how to say…um…well I guess sated, that’s how I get after a good hunt as well as my wolven side. I only need to hunt once or twice a month, its good for me and it keeps me in control over my other side.”            “I know this is a little forthcoming but next time you go hunting…..I want to go with you,” he spoke and she stopped the car on the side of the empty road as she turned to look at him.            “Why, would you want to see that,” she asked him.            “Because its apart of you and that’s exactly why,” he says, “I told you, I wanna be with you and that means seeing every part of you. So yeah, I wanna go with you on your next hunt. I want to see the other half.”            She took a breath as a sigh passed her lips as she looked out the window and then she looked at him as she says, “If you can make it through tonight ok. Then I’ll take you with me….on my next hunt, its in a few weeks and we have a cabin that we would stay in for a few days. If you can handle, meeting some of the other side and I’ll bring you with me. If that’s what you really want to do, that is.”            “Yeah it is,” he says with a smirk as he leans in slightly as he brings his hand up as he cups her cheek slightly as he slides his thumb across the upper part of her cheek as he looks to her.            “Seriously if you even knew how beautiful you really are,” he says, “Anybody that would think your bad….should get their eyes checked.”            She was slightly hesitant as she lightly touched the back of his hand as she closed her eyes slightly and when she did, he leaned in and pressed his lips softly against hers as he kissed her once. It took her by surprise and she opened her eyes slightly as she only back away a inch or two from his lips as she looks to him as she lightly grabs the back of his neck as she kissed him back deeply against the lips without even realizing what she was doing until it happened.             After a few moments, when she felt her fangs slightly graze his lips she broke the kiss as she covered her mouth slightly as she was breathless and she wasn’t the only one. She covered her mouth slightly and he smirked as he says, “Let me see.”            For some reason she let him slide her hand away from her lips and the tip of her canine could be seen from her parted lips as he says, “To be honest…and I’m not making fun of you but that’s kinda hot.”            “Shut up,” she says as she was blushing as she turned her gaze slightly to the side and he leans in an kisses her one more times on the lips.            When he broke the kiss as they looked to one another one more time before she pulled back on the street as she continued to drive.             “Were about ten minutes out,” she spoke trying to change the subject as well as cool her flushed cheeks down from that shared kiss.             “Sounds good,” he spoke.            “When we get there….their might be a chance we are called to greet Ethan when we arrive,” she says, “If we do just stay near me and if he speaks to you or ask questions be respectful with your answers and keep them to the point. I’m not fond of vampires but Ethan has kept things in line since I’ve worked here and he’s always kept his word about things so we don’t want to stir up any trouble with him and his family. He’s a respectable man but he can be a bit hard to be around sometimes but if your truthful and honest with him an don’t bullshit him, he will be even respectful towards a human like you.”            She says as she glances to him slightly with a smile and he looked to her as he smirked a bit and they finally made it to the place she was talking about and she hears him his seat say, “holy shit.”            “You haven’t seen anything yet,” she spoke as she found a parking spot up front as she turned off the ignition and got out of the car an he soon followed.            When they walked in, she could pick up the scent of some many different species it was off the charts.             “Tonight must be a full night,” she spoke.            “Why do you say that,” he asked her as he walked near her.            “Heartbeats and the different scents,” she spoke as she glanced to him.            “No s**t,” he spoke and as they walked up to the door, the main door was opened by Ethan’s new sire Colin. Guys got a bit of a chip on his shoulder but we all do so there is nothing that can really be done about it.            “Eva,” he spoke as she walked past him.            “Colin,” she spoke with a slight nod and she noticed he was staring at Connor; she grabbed him lightly by the wrist as she says. “Watch your eyes, he’s with me.”            “Taking on a human, never thought I would see this….well that will explain why Master Ethan would like to speak with you anyways,” he spoke.            “Fair enough,” she spoke as she nodded to Connor to follow her and he grasped her hand instead as they walked into place and she felt the pace of his heart quicken slightly but it went back to normal when she grasped his hand back as they walked over to Ethan’s table in the far back.            Ethan Draconis, was an elder to the vampires in this state as well as a few others but it’s hard to really even call him that when he only looked like he was in his late 20’s. His skin was slightly tanned, he had light hazel eyes, always kept his hair perfectly cut and styled back and always was perfectly dressed in a designer suit and tie. He always had a line of vamp groupies around him and his little children he made. He mostly stuck to siring females but he would on the rare occasion sire a male because he liked to even out things, sometimes I think he just did it to get a bit of entertainment out of it but that’s just my own opinion.            “Eva, Eva, Eva, Eva….Eva Langstone,” he says with a mocking tone as he sat back in the booth surrounded by his little groupies who he told the ones on the right side to leave.            “Please…..have a seat,” he spoke as he looked to the now empty section of the rounded booth he was sitting in.            “Thank you,” she spoke as she slid off her jacket and Connor did the same as he sat close to her.            “Colin, said you wanted to have words with me,” she spoke.            “Yes but first aren’t you going to introduce me to your….pet…suitor or should I say more,” he spoke as he looked to Connor in a way that not only made her feel slightly irritated but aggressive as well and she didn’t understand why but she kept her emotions in check.            “He’s my new partner at work and well….the rest is still work in progress,” she says, “He’s new to our world Ethan….I thought the best way to welcome him into it slowly would be to bring him to Eclipse, your place is the most comfortable so to speak to our kind and I thought it be wise to bring him to the most well versed place that caters to all of our world.”            “Flattery from you Eva, that’s a rare treat….I think I will like this human if he brings that out of you,” he spoke as he looked to her and then to Connor.             “It’s good to meet you Mr. Draconis,“ Conner spoke with light bow of his head.          “Manners….I like that….shows good training,” he spoke as he looked to him and she could feel Connor tighten up at the comment and she lightly grabbed his wrist underneath the table and she felt him calm down after a moment or so.            “So….speaking of training my sources have told me their was a incident at Haven and afterwards as well,” Ethan spoke as he looked to the female beside him as he slid his fingertips through her hair and then and turned to look at Eva.            “Yes, a were-tiger….it wasn’t the kids fault,” she says, “He was attacked by a hunter….a newbie at that. He had to be, because the few hunters I’ve come across would never go after a were in heat and so young as well; that’s when were at our strongest and then he tried to dose the kid with anthro-toxin….it smelled like Lyconis to me, I recognize the scent easily enough.”            “Lyconis,” he spoke as he looked to her.            “A pretty large dose because the kid was out of his mind by the time he was finished and it took him a while to come out of it,” she says, “He had his human mate with him, she knew what he was and repeated over an over again how he was basically a calm kid.”            “You believe her,” he asked her slightly intrigued when he heard her tell what had gone on.            “Yeah, I do,” she say, “The girl was in love with him and the boy was in love with her as well, neither had a reason to lie and I saw the truth in his eyes. The kid was harmless….I mean like jump at a howl if he heard one, he was provoked beyond measure. I gave him the name of the lawyer, Dexter Erins. The one dad, always worked with and I believe has worked a few cases for your clan as well.”                    “Erins….is faithful….that was a good choice,” he says, “This hunter….            “To be honest he was new but…I just don’t have a good feeling about this whole thing really,” she says, “I think it would be wise, if you wouldn’t mind listening to a slight bit of council from someone as young as I; that you might want to tell your clan to be careful. It might of just been a newbie that washed in and that’s all there is to it but there is to many variables that don’t add up and when my father said when the variables don’t add up things become more complicated. And with how I saw the situation I think that’s a high possibility in this case. If you might spread the news around to your people to be watchful I think that might be the safest of things for us….all of us.”            “I will take your words in consideration, I appreciate that you would come to me with this information,” Ethan says, “Robert raised you well with our worlds rules, I have to admit I miss our conversations with the old man. Their’s not very many around that carried our views on the way things should be.”            “I do as well,” she spoke with a light smile.                    “I will take your information and tell my children to keep a watchful eye out for one another,” he says, “And you human, Connor was it. Since you are her partner, you will have the watchful eye of my children if need be. I take care of those who are honest with me and this one has never lied to me. If she trust you enough to bring you here in front of me, that means I can have trust in you as well.”            “Thank you Mr. Draconis….I appreciate the compliment,” he spoke with a slight nod. “To be honest, I always thought their was more out there then just well us, its kind of nice to know my ideas weren’t wrong and I just wasn’t crazy.”            “Well you have to be a bit crazy to walk in this den of under worlder’s but it’s humans like you,” he says, “That make me think our kind might have a future among the humans, I hope to see that one day before my immortality runs out….if I might ever pass.”            “Thank you Lord Draconis for taking your time and speaking with us,” she spoke as she glanced to the man as a female human was pawning all over him.            “I appreciate the information, I will talk to my children during the next night fall and let them know what has transpired,” he says, “If I can get a word with the Shifter leader, Copley….I will give the information to him as well. I can not promise that he will even listen let alone consider things but I will try.”            “Thank you Lord Draconis,” she spoke with a slight nod of respect.            “Well you’ve spent enough of your night with me,” he says, “Enjoy yourselves and it’s on me for the night. Consider it a thank you for the information shared. Now go enjoy yourself, I’ve ignored my favorite long enough.”            “Thank you, Lord Draconis,” she spoke with a smile and Connor said his thanks as well as they slipped out of the booth and he motioned for a waitress over and told her to take them to a good booth.            They followed the waitress as she showed them to the booth and they scooted in and right off the bat she asked what they wanted to drink.                    “I’ll take a beer, what ever is good on tap,” he says to her.            “I’ll have a glass of Lycaomadius,” she told her and the vampire smiled as she took their orders and walked through the crowd of tables and back to the bar table and gave their drink orders to the bar tender.            “Lycaomadius,” he spoke as he glanced at her slightly.            “It’s basically alcohol strong enough for shifters to enjoy,” she says, “I like beer but my metabolism burns through it to quickly so I can never really enjoy a decent beer let alone get a light buzz.”            “So basically its wolf’s beer,” he spoke and she couldn’t help as she chuckled as she spoke.            “Yeah I guess you could say that,” she says, “All of us, well with our different body types and well structure….you could say everyone has a different way of processing things through their body and blood stream.”            “I guess I can kind of understand that,” he spoke.            “It’s kind of like vampires,” she says, “You think they drink blood because they just need it for food right?”            She asked him and he looked to her when she did then he says, “Well isn’t that the truth though.”            “Yes and no,” she spoke.            “Alright….confused,” he spoke to her.            “Vampires, do need to feed on blood but that’s because their own body needs to replenish what they have lost because they might not be alive so to speak but certain organs are still alive in their body,” she says, “So their body requires the blood to keep their body strong, in a sense….and I know your probably going to laugh but blood to vampires is kind of like milk to humans.”            “Ok, your right that one I’m going to laugh at,” he spoke as he couldn’t help but laugh a little when he listened to her.            “Well that’s a new way to put things,” he spoke with a smile as he looked to her and she couldn’t help as she chuckled a little as well.            “Oh shut up,” she says, “It’s the best thing I could come up with, besides it’s the closest analog I could come up with to make you understand.”            “Alright, alright….I get it,” he says, “So on a scale of 1-10….How do you think I’m doing?”            “Pretty good so far….so far,” she spoke with a light smile.            They enjoyed a couple of drinks together and ate dinner, while they ate they enjoyed a bit of small talk and actually had a pretty good time and that was a first for her. That was actually a first date for her period, if she was being honest with herself. When they left and got back to the car, he grabbed her slightly by the wrist as he tugged her back against him and she couldn’t help but laugh as she turned to him.            “So human….you have officially spent your first night in a underworld place….think you can handle the rest that comes along with it,” she spoke as she looked to him and she felt him slide his arms around her waist he brought her closer to him.            “And then some,” he says, “So since I could handle being around all kinds, do I get a prize.”            She thought about it for a moment as she realized what he was talking about it and the more she thought about it; taking him with her in some ways was the right thing to do. It would prove to her, he was 100% with her and what he was saying was true and if he bailed then everything was bullshit. She never let herself become this exposed before and it was thrilling and terrifying all wrapped in one because she had never let anyone in her heart like before.            “Put your time into the Captain for a week,” she says, “It’s a bit of a drive and well….pack for cold weather its suppose to snow.”            “Done and done,” he told her and she brought her hand up slightly as she lightly slid her fingertips down his chin as she looked up to him as his jawline tightened at her touch.            It wasn’t in a bad way, she could tell as she slid it across his lower lip as she says, “All of this is still so new to me.”            “Is that a good thing,” he asked.            “I hope so….because I’ve just started to open up and I don’t think I want to close that door,” she spoke as she looked up to him as he cupped her chin and leaned in slightly as he kissed her slightly on the lips.            “You won’t,” he spoke as he looked to her after the kiss. “I don’t plan on leaving and I mean it.”            She nodded slightly.
