"I'm sorry, Mr. McNight, but Mrs. McNight wants a divorce."
"What's wrong with her, is she crazy?" I started to shout. "There are still 4 years left until this s**t is over."
"I understand, Mr. McNight, but she said..."
"I don't want to know what she said!" I couldn't give her the divorce, I had a few clues about what happened to Eric, I couldn't risk my legacy, much less my family.
"I know, she wants to marry someone else," Bruno spat out the words.
"What do you mean by that? Who does she think she is?" I punched the table.
"She... she..." Once again, I interrupted him.
"Since she wants this damn divorce, fine." Bruno looked at me surprised. "Tell her I'll only sign if she asks me personally."
"Sir, she doesn't want to meet you."
"The nerve of her!" I couldn't believe she could stoop so low and betray me. This wasn't even a real wedding. It had only been a few hours since I had s*x with the flight attendant on my private jet, it was never the same woman, I didn't want to risk them falling in love. "That's my condition."
I said and walked away, Bruno muttered something, but I didn't understand, I just ignored it.
I returned to my room. I lay down on the bed, exhausted from the trip.
My phone vibrated, I glanced at the screen, and it was a call from Thiago, a cop.
*** Incoming call ***
Me: Hey Thiago, my friend!
Thiago: How are you, Henry?
Me: Good, to what do I owe the honor?
Thiago: You've arrived, right?!
Me: I had forgotten how news travels around here.
Thiago: Did you forget I'm a cop? I find out everything I want. That's one of the perks of being a cop here!
Me: Can we have a drink?
Thiago: I can't, I'm having surgery tomorrow morning. I've known Thiago for a few years; he's also in the mafia.
Me: What do you mean by that? He should have warned me.
Thiago: It's an emergency, I'll be out for a few months. He paused. I was thinking of leaving the station in your hands.
Me: Me?
Thiago: Yes! You forgot we still don't know what happened to Eric. I can't pause the investigation, I don't know how long I'll be out.
Me: Got it! I really couldn't leave things like this, it's been three years since Eric disappeared and we have no concrete leads.
Thiago: I'll send you an email with everything you need to know, including the cases and the officers. I've already spoken with my superior and sent him your CV.
Me: My CV?
Thiago: By the way, he thought your recommendations were amazing. He laughed. Oh, and one more thing.
Me: What?
Thiago: You'll have to teach a class at Central University.
Me: Thiago, you're killing me! This is too much!
Thiago: They're civil law classes, you always did well in that area.
Me: s**t! I have a law degree; I took the course because of the mafia. It was good to have someone who understood the law. Alright, Thiago!
Thiago: There are some hot students! We laughed, Thiago was worse than me when it came to women.
Me: Send me the email about that.
Thiago: Sent successfully!
Me: See you, keep me informed!
Thiago: Of course.
*** End of call ***
I had just arrived in NY and was already swamped with problems to solve!
I took a long shower, wondering what my wife would be like and who she wanted to marry. I never wanted to see her in person. When we got married, she was just a girl, I prefer women with more experience who can match my energy, and I didn't want the kid to fall in love with me.
My phone rang at 6:00 am, I just put on my running clothes and brushed my teeth, grabbed my phone, headphones, and went out for a run. This was part of my morning routine.
I got home and it was almost 7:30, today I got carried away. I skipped breakfast and went to shower; today was my first day of teaching. Thiago owes me one.
My shower was quick, I put on a dress shirt, jeans, and dress shoes, combed my hair back, and put on my favorite Invictus perfume. I quickly downed my coffee, headed straight to the garage, grabbed my black Porsche, and drove to Central University.
As soon as I left the parking lot, I could feel the students' eyes on me, and as I said, I don't like girls, only women.
I introduced myself to all the school staff. The principal accompanied me to the room. It was empty, it was already 8:00, ten minutes before the class started. In no time, the room was packed. As soon as I started introducing myself to the students, two students arrived late, if only they knew I can't tolerate tardiness!
One of them caught my attention. She was a tall brunette with dark brown hair and lighter tips, dark brown eyes, neither skinny nor fat, her body was perfectly proportioned, wearing light jeans ripped at the legs and a black tank top that accentuated her breasts. I felt a rush of excitement. The other girl was a redhead with light brown eyes. That was all I could make out.
"Good morning!" I introduced myself again. "I will be your new substitute teacher!" I started hearing murmurs. The brunette and the redhead sat down. "I will continue with the Civil Law classes."
Some of the girls weren't even paying attention. It didn't matter to me; they were the ones who needed it.
I continued the topic Thiago had started. I could hear a murmur here and there. I simply ignored them. Sometimes our eyes met. She is very beautiful, I might have to reconsider my usual preferences. I want her, of course, I will have her.
The class ended. I noticed the brunette kept looking at me; she seemed lost in her world.
I saw her redheaded friend calling her, I pretended not to see anything.
They walked towards the door. I decided to ask their names. As I walked towards them, the brunette tripped over her own feet. I couldn't understand how she managed to do that. She went straight to the ground.
"Are you okay?" She tried to say something, but nothing came out. I wasn't surprised by her reaction.
I bent down and helped her with the books, I could see at a glance that one of her books had the name Navarro, I couldn't see her first name.
Our eyes met for a brief moment, which only heightened my excitement.
I extended my hand, and she accepted it. Her friend kept her eyes on me the whole time.
"Th... thank you!" I stifled a laugh.
"Here you go! Try to be more careful next time." I maintained my composure.
