A Human Mate
*** Alpha Derek’s POV ***
“Damn it, Josh”, I said angrily as I watched my beautiful mate from afar. “I am a f*****g Alpha,” I added focusing my glare at him. “The Alpha head in the council… the most feared among our species and all others,” I breathed furiously. “The most powerful,” I said lowering my tone frowning as realization was finally hitting me. “I get mated to a human?” I then ask turning to look at my Beta.
Josh, my Beta was fearless and extremely strong. I could trust he can easily overpower any alpha in our state, just not me. He was very well trained to take on as much as 10 worriers at a time without getting so much of a scratch. But he was never able to out-do me in any of the training challenges we’d done together, and we’d done a lot. We have been together since our childhood, he was the first one I fought with in a training at the age of 7, and he has shared all the milestones of my life ever since. His loyalty is unquestionable and I knew he was the only person I could trust with my life.
“Alpha,” he said calmly, “we are surrounded with humans, please calm down.” He recommended making me realize we are still at this college party filled with humans. We cannot possibly draw any attention towards us.
“Besides, you can always reject her, and with humans it’s easy. She won’t know what you did, and it is not even necessary for her as a human mate to accept your rejection. Simple.” He added beaming.
“No,” I shook my head finally giving in to my fate. “I don’t think I want to reject her” I said still contemplating the way she was moving. So soft, so pure it made my wolf go crazy. She was talking to what I suppose is a group of her friends, laughing. She looked so happy, so serene. As if she had it all figured out. Her long brown hair matched exactly her beautiful brown eyes. With a face of an angel, and a body of a supermodel. I could not take my eyes off of her.
“Alpha…” Josh interrupted my thoughts. “How are you going to tell a human, whose biggest worry might be which outfit to wear today, that they are supposed to rule 24 states by your side and be the Luna to not just your pack, but to all the Lunas of the council. How are you going to tell someone who has never heard of any of species but humans, EVER, that vampires, werewolves, witches and so on do in fact exist.” He made a point. “Most importantly,” he went on “how are you going to make her fall for you while she can’t even feel the mate pull.”
“Damn humans,” I shook my head turning towards the bartender, finally taking my eyes off of her before I get too attached. I made sure not to get any close to her as I did not want the mate pull to get stronger and get me hooked. I kept an extremely safe distance, as I needed time to decide what I wanted to do. I knew that if I so much as touched her and had a closer dose of her scent I may be doomed, and I did not want that. I needed to keep my option at being able to reject her open.
“Excuse me,” I heard one of the sweetest, most angelic voices come from behind me.
F*ck
I turn my back for one second and she’s already so close behind me. Out of all the places in the bar. She stands behind me. And tries to talk to me.
“Go ahead” I said turning to see her so close to me. Too close. The bar was already packed with people and it looked like she was trying to push her way in towards the bar so I stepped away for her to be able to make her order.
“Thank you,” she smiled politely.
Oh great.
Just what I needed. For her to smile at me like that.
I could see Josh didn’t like that. I didn’t like that either. She made me want to hold her and make her mine. I loved everything about her. It’s as if the Moon Goddess knew EXACTLY what type of person can reach my inner soul. Damn it. She is breathtaking in every way possible and I don’t like where this is going.
“Alpha,” Josh whispered for only me to hear. “Please, let’s just leave for now.” He begged.
“Yeah,” I agreed as I started to step away from her. I did not need to see her so close; I did not need to feel her or smell her sweet scent or even hear her soft voice. She is just a human, and even though I feel the mate pull towards her, I hoped that once I’m out of this bar and away from her I will no longer be drawn to her this much. All I need to do is get out of here.
“There you are, sugar,” I heard someone say just as I had turned my back to leave.
Was he talking to her? To MY mate?
“No, Alpha,” Josh whispered again. “Please do not turn, just keep walking towards the exit.”
“Why do you keep blowing me off like that,” that mutt’s voice then said making me freeze. I knew if I turn to face them something bad is going to happen so I just froze in my place, hoping nothing happens between them in my presence.
“Why are you here, Leo?” I heard my sweet mate reply. She did not sound comfortable in his presence. “I already told you several times before, you need to stop this. There is nothing between us and there never will be!” she said filling me with pride. So polite yet so honest and firm. She does not play around and I like that.
“We’ll see about that sugar.”
That f*cking mutt. I need to get out of here before this ass*ole says something I don’t like and I am made to take another look at her. This would surely drive me crazy and I am not willing to accept a human as my mate. Let alone try to make her fall for me.
‘Josh, you stay in the bar until she leaves.’ I mind-linked my Beta. ‘I don’t like the feeling of that ass*ole being in the same place as her’. I added. I knew by distancing myself like that I will not be able to protect her. At least I can do it tonight by keeping Josh at the bar.
‘I’ll leave the car for you, I feel like running back to catch some air, I need it after seeing my mate for the first time today,’ I mind-linked Josh again as he nodded.
