“How do you take your coffee, my dear?” Grayson asked Carrie as they stood in the alcove at the opposite end of the hallway from the waiting room. “They have regular, decaffeinated, and if you are in the mood for something fancier, they have a single cup maker and a wide variety of coffees and teas for it.”
“Regular coffee with extra cream would be great. Right now, I could really use a caffeine boost,” Carrie said as she looked down at the phone in her hand. “Maybe if I chug it, the rush will give me the courage to make this call.” Carrie shook her head and sighed, “I should have called them as soon as I found out that Hailey was hurt. They have always treated her like a second daughter, the same as John treats me.”
