Chapter 21

"Baby are you sure?" Rayford kept looking her over, as if he was searching for something that was amiss on her body. He couldn't get himself to take his eyes off her, so he had to ask Michael to drive them with Dele in front so he could sit at the back with Jane.

"I'm sure Rayford, please just take me home"

"Okay fine, we will just over to Michael's place so Amaka and my sisters would know you're safe, they have been worried sick about you''

"Oh..... Amaka, how is she? Hope she wasn't badly hurt?"

"No she's fine" Rayford placed her head on his chest and rubbed on her head. The image of Timothy holding a gun to her head couldn't leave his mind, and it made him to not want her out of his sight.

Jane wanted nothing but to sleep. Hopefully when she wakes up, this will all be a dream. As they changed route and decided to go home, Rayford called Black to inform him of the change of plans but asked him to take his injured man to the hospital and promised to come visit him the next day.

When they arrived Michael's house, it was awfully silent. So they thought the ladies must have gone to sleep. Michael went upstairs to check the rooms, but they were not there. It was just the nanny and their baby who were sleeping in the baby's room.

"They are not upstairs" Michael told them as he got downstairs.

"Then where could they be? I have checked the back of the house and they aren't there either" Dele asked in confusion.

"I noticed Leah Rose's car wasn't outside when we drove in, could it be they went out?" Rayford asked

"By 6am? Where could they have gone to by this time?" Asked Michael.

"The only way to find out where they went, is to ask the nanny, she was home when they left" Rayford suggested. And Michael went back upstairs to wake the nanny.

"They said they were going to the police station and that they weren't going to take long" the sleepy nanny said.

"They went to the police, whatever for?"

"I don't know sir, they only said I shouldn't wait up for them"

"What time did they leave?"

"Almost immediately you left the house sir"

Michael checked his wristwatch "That's over six hours ago and they aren't back yet?"

"No sir"

Michael went back downstairs to inform Rayford and Dele.

"What did they go and do in a police station? I thought I asked them to stay here?" Rayford asked as he tried calling Leah Rose "have you tried calling Ming?" He asked Michael.

"I have called her twice but she is not picking up"

"Call her again, Leah Rose is not picking up as well, I just hope they are safe"

After ten minutes of them trying to reach the ladies without any of them picking, they decided to search for them in the nearest police station.

''If we had known, we would have just stayed at home. Now see even the people we were trying to help, I'm sure they must have gone and come back'' Ming stood holding the bar of the cell looking so pitiful. Ever since she was thrown into the cell, she has been regretting the decision of them coming to ask for the police's help.

''how do we even know if they were able to rescue Jane successfully?'' asked Amaka

''We would have to call them and know for sure'' Leah Rose suggested.

"Officer, please allow us to make a call to our family" Amaka pleaded to one of the officers who was passing by. Their phones were seized when they were put into cell, so they couldn't reach anyone.

"I thought you ladies were being smart? Use your smartness and reach your family now?"

"Please officer, we are sorry for whatever it is we said. In fact we don't want to report any case again, just allow us to contact our families" Ming pleaded this time making a baby face.

"Fine, but only one of you will be allowed to make a call"

"Alright no problem, thank you so much, I will make the call" Ming quickly ran out of the cell as the officer opened it.

Michael and the rest were about to leave the house when his phone rang. He took it out of his pocket to find Ming's name on the screen.

"Hello baby where are you?"

"We are at the police station"

"Doing what?"

"Just come down to the Ikoyi police division to bail us, there is no much time to explain"

"Alright I am on my way now"

"Who was that?" Dele asked

"Ming, she said they were arrested at the police station, we have to go bail them out"

"What did they do wrong?"

"We would have to find out when we get there" Rayford said.

They all got into their separate cars and drove to the police station. Since Rayford hasn't been home yet, he had to drive one of Michael's cars because he intends to take Jane home straight from the police station, after they were done there.

When they got to the police station, Michael introduced himself to the police and asked to see Ming, Leah Rose and Amaka.

"And who do you think you are, to just walk in here demanding to see your wife?" one of the officers who had arrested them asked rudely.

"May I even know what their offense was for you to have arrested them?"

"And oga I said who do you think you are to ask me such a question?"

"Excuse me?" Michael asked in disbelief.

"You are excused already, and I suggest you use that excuse now and excuse yourself out of this place if you don't want to be thrown into the cell like your wife"

Before Michael could react, Rayford quickly came forward and calming him down and decided to speak to the police himself.

"Officer, all we are asking is to see them and then seek for a bail for them. They are actually my sisters"

"Who be this one again? Shebi this place be like your house that you can just be giving orders anyhow?"

"My name is Rayford Ademola" Rayford replied calmly with an air of pride.

"Ademola, like the Ademolas?" The police officer asked. Rayford nodded in response.

"You mean like the former assistant head of state Ademola?"

"I'm afraid you are correct"

"Ehmmmmm..... Oga nor vex,. I nor know say na your sisters, oya sergeant release them fast fast" the officer was shaking all over as he spoke.

The sergeant quickly released them, and when they came out and saw Jane, they all screamed and hugged her at the same time, they almost fell her.

"Jane you are alive, I was scared something bad had happened to you" Amaka had tears in her eyes as she spoke.

"So why were they arrested?" Rayford asked the police officer who was still shaking from fear of what Rayford might do to him and his colleagues.

"Emmmm...."

" Rayford let's just forget it, thank God Jane is back safely" Leah Rose said as she walked up to the officer. "You should thank your stars, it's a day of celebration for us. if not, we would have reported you to your superiors and made sure you lost your job"

"God bless you ma, thank you very much sir" the men kept thanking them profusely as they walked out of the station.

"So what brought you people here in the first place?" Dele asked the ladies as they got outside.

"Please let's all go home, I'm very sure Jane needs to rest. let us talk about this some other time" Ming quickly got into her husband's car as she spoke to avoid any form of interrogation from any of the men.

They all concurred, but the men knew the ladies were hiding something. But like Ming said, now wasn't the right time to discuss it. They all decided to let the matter die for now.

Leah Rose said her goodbyes, got into her car and drove out, while Michael and Ming drove out in their car. So it was just Dele, Amaka, Rayford and Jane that were left.

"Amaka you would come with us right?" Jane asked Amaka who was looking all weak and tired.

"I will take her home" Dele quickly offered.

"You don't have to bother yourself I will just go with Jane and Rayford"

"I insist, please"

Rayford who has been noticing the tension between those two, since he got back. Decided to help his friend out.

"Hey emm... Amaka why don't you allow Dele take you home? I'm very sure you would need to rest on your drive home. And being with Jane in same car, won't allow that because you both will keep chatting all through the drive"

They all looked at Rayford with a funny look on their faces for the ridiculous excuse he just made.

"Fine, that was a lame one, please join us in our car. Dele you are going home alone" they all busted into laughter for his sudden frankness.

"It's fine, I will go with Dele"

"Amaka are you sure?" Jane asked.

"Yes I am" Amaka hugged Jane and whispered in her ears "two is a company, three is a crowd. Enjoy your ride with Rayford, we will catch up later"

Jane smiled at her friend's thoughtfulness, even when it inconvenienced her, she still thought of others.

When they got home, Rayford carried Jane bridal style and took her upstairs.

" Rayford I can actually walk, you don't have to keep carrying me"

"And I chose to carry you, so enjoy it because I'm not planning on bringing you down until we get to the bedroom"

Jane nuzzled her head on his chest as he carried her through the stairs, and when they got to the bedroom he placed her down on her feet.

"Would you like me to bath you?" Rayford asked with so much tenderness in his voice.

Jane touched his face with her palm. ''you look so fatigued baby'' she had so much worry in her voice.

Rayford kissed the inside of her palm. ''that doesn't matter, the most important thing; is that you are here now''

Jane had gone into the bathroom to take her bath for over thirty minutes, and she wasn't out yet. Rayford was beginning to get worried, so he decided to knock on the bathroom door.

"Hey babe, you have been in there for quite some time, are you okay?" He listened for a reply but there was none, so he knocked again, still no reply.

"Babe are you there?" The only sound that came was that of the shower and it has been on since she went into the bathroom.

"Babe I'm coming in" he announced as he went into the bathroom to find Jane sitting on the floor and crying under the shower.

She couldn't get herself to take the image of Timothy's dead body on the ground off her mind, somehow she blamed herself for his death.

"Oh baby what is the problem?" He quickly turned off the shower and got a towel to wrap around her. She was shivering from cold. Rayford carried her into the bedroom and sat her down on a chair and stooped down to look at her face.

"Hey... What is the matter, why are you crying?" Jane who was now trying to stifle her tears, shook her head. ''nothing, I'm just happy''

''are you sure?'' she nodded her response.

Rayford toweled her body dry, and then got one of his robes for her to put on.

"Would you like to lie down?" In response Jane spread her hands for Rayford to carry her. He immediately obliged her, she wrapped her legs around him and buried her head in the crook of his neck. He kept whispering soothing words into her ears, trying to pacify her as he carried her to the bed and placed her carefully on it.

"Please don't leave me Rayford" she held his hands as he covered her with a duvet.

"I'm going nowhere baby, I just need to quickly take a shower and I will be back to be with you" Jane nodded slightly, Rayford bent down and kissed her on her forehead before going into the bathroom.

"Would you like something to eat?" He asked as he got out of the bathroom. "My housekeeper should be around by now, what would you like her to make for you?"

"Noodles will be fine" Jane said quietly as she folded herself into a ball on the bed.

"Noodles it is then" Rayford placed a call to his housekeeper who was already downstairs doing her work, and asked her to prepare noodles for them.

Fifteen minutes later, there was a soft knock on the door. Rayford opened, to find his housekeeper with a tray.
