The reaction was instant, confirming my fears. Everyone, provided they were not incapacitated by the plague, fell on their knees and the clinic fell silent.
I froze on the ground, holding the boy in my hand. He got up and ran back to his sister, yelling and breaking the tense silence, “Kami!” he cried.
One of the palace guards dashed forward and yanked him up by his collar, “You insolent brat… do you know what you have just done?”
Oh no
I got up and ran to the guard, “Please have mercy, please, he just lost his little sister.”
The guard sneered at me, “Stay out of this,” he barked.
He withdrew his claws and was about to maim the kid right before my eyes.
My eyes widened in terror. Was I really not able to save both Kami and her brother?
“Stop!”
