Ace P.O.V
I frantically run through the woods, trying to locate my beta Sam following his scent. I am suddenly hit by the most mouth-watering scent I have even smelt. A mixture of strawberries and rose with a hint of honey my Lycan perks up at the new smell pushing towards the forefront of my mind muttering a word on repeat, but I cannot seem to make out the word.
Blocking him out for now, I continue my search for Sam coming to a clearing. I stop dead in my tracks as I find him curled up in the foetal position muttering to himself. Worried about my friend's state mentally as I scan his body noticing no wounds, I begin to wonder what the hell went on out here.
I approach slowly as I mind link the pack doctor to get out here as soon as he can and to bring a car as I doubt Sam is in any state to walk, I get right up close before I speak.
“Hey buddy, are you okay? Are you in any pain?” I ask softly, but he just continues to mutter the same thing I focus my hearing to try and understand what he is saying.
“The monster is real; the monster is real” he repeats not understanding what he means by this I decide to step back not wanting to worsen his state of mind by touching him the last thing I need right now is my beta in an even more frightened state well if that is even possible.
I only have to wait a few minutes before the pack doctor arrives. He ends up having to give Sam a strong sedative to put him to sleep as he becomes more hysterical. Whoever did this to him will pay with their life in all the years I have known Sam, I have never seen him in such a state. If I did not know the guy, I would have suggested a mental institute with how crazed he was acting.
It also makes me wonder who or what could have caused this. The thought of there being an unknown monster out there sparks a small amount of fear in me, but I am quick to snuff it out. I can not show fear. I must protect my people, and I will do so by any means necessary.
Storming towards the pack house, I mind link my third in command Lenny and tell him to meet me in my office. As I step through the doors, Amy rushes towards me, and I find myself quickly holding in my breath as my earlier thoughts of her possibly being my mate flashes in my mind.
I let the breath I was holding in out as I quickly noticed the disappointment on her face after realising that we are not mates hoping she does not notice the relief on mine. The thought of mates quickly has me thinking about that delicious scent I came across in the woods when Sam is feeling himself again, I will have to mention it to him as it was at its strongest right by him.
“Look I don’t have time for this today, Amy. I must get to my office. I have a lot of work to do” I say as I notice she is about to speak with me.
Nodding her head, she turns to leave straight away without a fight, which I am grateful for. I continue to make my way to the office opening the door I see Lenny already sitting waiting on the chair opposite my desk as I walk around my big dark, wood coloured desk and slump into my chair I let out a huff of annoyance after the day’s events this is the last thing I needed on my birthday.
“Lenny, we have a severe problem. Sam is in the pack hospital recovering from whatever mental attack he encountered, so I need you to step up and take over his role while he recovers. I also need to set up new perimeter plans. We will have to up our training programme to be more intense. I also want to incorporate vampire killing techniques as I am not sure what the vampires were doing today, whether this is a declaration of war or what, so I need everyone in top form ready for anything.” I say as I go through the mental list in my head of everything, we will have to prepare the pack in case this really does mean war.
“Yes, King Ace, can I also recommend trying to contact the vampire king and try to come to some agreement? It would be more beneficial if we could have an alliance with them instead of a war.” He replies, surprising me with his tactical thinking that it would be a good move on our part if we could come to some agreement. A lot of lives would be spared on both sides. What kind of ruler would not want that?
“Perfect idea Lenny I will leave that with you, as you are my beta as of today until Sam has recovered, I will leave you to contact the king to try and arrange some sort of meeting but please do present the idea of some sort of alliance. Make sure you appease his ego and boost about how much stronger it will make our races if we stand together and so on.”
“Yes of course. I will get it done straight away. This is an excellent move on your part offering this.” He replies, causing me to roll my eyes.
“Lenny it’s not my ego that needs stroking, so go and call the king already.”
“Right away” I watch as Lenny rushes off to go and complete the tasks I have given him. I hope the king will accept my offer of an alliance. I hate that every race is out for themselves. We should all be able to come together. It helps when there are outside threats towards us all if we can work together more innocent people will be saved.
I lean my head back on my chair just thinking about the events of the day. I am already exhausted, and it's only early afternoon. Getting up from my chair, I make my way towards the packed kitchen. I know my mother has made me a cake for today. I deserve a big slice of it now with all that is going on. As I enter, I spot the heavenly chocolate dessert sitting unguarded on the countertop. Taking out a plate, I cut off a big slice and quickly rushed back to my office before anyone could see me.
I know I am being a wimp, but if my mother spots me with this cake, there will be hell to pay even if I am the king of Lycans , and that woman fears no one. I will just have to blame it on one of the younger pups I am sure she would not know.
