Ace eighteen P.O.V
I am forced to drag my tired form from the comfort of my bed as my mother mind links me to come down for breakfast in her ‘I mean business tone’. Even though I turn eighteen today, I am not looking forward to it. The weeks leading up to this day, Amy has not left me alone. Insisting that we are going to be mates and how we should colour, coordinate our outfits tonight at the ball. My mother is throwing me the girl, but he just doesn’t know when to stop.
I’m too scared to leave my room in fear that we might just be the very thing she has been saying for years, mates. Lycans are immortal, and there is no way I am spending all of eternity with that woman.
After showering, my black, damp hair sticks to my forehead as I throw on my black, jeans and black, tightly fitted top, then stuff my feet into my white, Nike trainers. Taking in a deep breath, I open my bedroom door as I mentally prepare myself for either the worst day of my life or the best. It all depends on if Amy is my mate or not.
As I reach the kitchen, I am relieved to find my mother being the only person here.
“There he is, my baby. Happy birthday sweetheart, are you excited to find your mate today?”
“Mother, you do not know whether I will find her today or not. She may not belong to our pack, she may not even be a Lycan, she could be a wolf.” I reply there are few Lycan packs left. We are the largest and strongest in the world with just over a thousand members, which may not seem a lot, but one Lycan could easily overpower ten wolves. We are naturally stronger and faster.
I take my seat at the table as I pour my morning coffee. I am about to take a sip of the dark delicious liquid when the back door slams open, revealing a worn-out looking Sam who is now my second in command.
“King Ace” he pants, causing me to raise a dark brow at him for being so formal.
“V, vampires are r, running along our b, borders” he finally gets out, which causes me to freeze.
Once I snap out of my confused state, I jump from my seat, forgetting all about my coffee as I make my way over to him, confusion and anger simmering just under my skin. How dare they. What do they want? War? To taunt us, there has not been a vampire sighting in years.
So why are they here now?
I remember my father telling me about the vampires he never got on with their king, something about him being too immature even for being hundreds of years old. Vampires rarely travel outside their kingdom, so for them to be here is a big deal. I just wish my dad were here to help me figure it out, but unfortunately, he died a few years back during a witch attack. Now, I am left to run our kingdom without the guidance of my father. Pushing the thought aside, I ready myself to face the red, eyed monsters.
