Rosa woke up the following morning feeling drowsy and weak, her eyes were reddish and swollen. “Good morning Rosa, how are you doing”. Said Mrs. Kate with a wide smile as she brought breakfast to her on bed. Rosa looked at her mum distinctly, wondering the reason for the switch up in her mood. The last time they spoke she sounded annoyed. “I am not fine if you’re here to talk about the wedding mum”. Rosa replied in weak tone. Mrs. Kate gave a deep sigh. “Uh... well Rosa I am here to talk to you... “About what”? Rosa interrupted. “I want to talk to you about yesterday. I want to apologise for how I spoke to you yesterday. I am really sorry, I know I shouldn’t have spoken to you in that manner but things got all heated up. It’s been six months your dad passed away, I am trying to really hard to see that this family doesn’t fall apart. Please forgive me Rosa. I have lost a lot already, I don’t want to loose you too”. Rosa felt a bit relieved and comfortable, she hugged her mum and dropped a tear from her eye. “Okay, enough of the crying now eat your breakfast let me get you water”. Mrs. Kate replied wiping of her tear and leaves the room. She prepared fried potatoes, garnished chicken sauce and oats. Mrs. Kate returned with a glass of water and gave it to Rosa. Rosa rushed the water like she hasn’t eaten in days. Mrs. Kate saw the emptiness in Rosa. She battled herself within her guts. She didn’t know how to talk to Rosa about the arranged marriage. But however she just had to let it out, because Clark had already given her a time frame to prepare Rosa for the wedding. She watched Rosa eat, finally she got some courage to talk to Rosa. “Rosa, there is one more thing I want to talk to you about, please listen”. Mrs. Kate said looking into Rosa’s little dark brown eyes, caressing her cheeks. “Okay?” Rosa replied with a look of skepticism on her face. “Look Rosa, I know how disheartening it is for you, that you have to marry Clark Livingston. But Rosa my child, the situation we find ourselves in. This is our only viable option my child, and we can’t miss it. Yesterday I spoke with Clark and he gave us 1.5 million dollars just to take care of ourselves. Listen, Rosa I know you don’t love him but love is sacrifice, you’re sacrificing to be with him in this marriage with time you’ll learn to love him. I’ll make sure that you are given the rightful attention you deserve. Just do this for us okay?” Mrs. Kate said with tears rolling down her cheeks. Rosa gave a deep sigh. She didn’t relish seeing her mum cry, especially in her front. At this point Rosa’s hands were tied she couldn’t say no to her crying mother. “Mum don’t cry that’ll break my heart further”. She wiped her mums face. “Okay, Rosa you don’t have to worry your wedding will be a secret one and once you are married to Clark you have legal right to some of his properties. All you have to do is to stay in the marriage for sometime and when we are financially stable to bring our company back on its feet you can file for a divorce if necessary. So don’t worry my child it is fine”. Mrs. Kate said smiling to Rosa. Rosa gave a faint smile and looked away. “Thank you my child, so finish up your meal I need to give Clark a call to commence the wedding reparations”. Mrs. Kate left the room to get her phone. Rosa was speechless, “it is like my opinion never mattered in all of this. I haven’t even said a yes to her and she is already planning going on with the wedding preparations”. Rosa said to herself audibly, she could feel her dreams crushing down before her and she can’t do anything about it. She struggled to find some inner glimpse of hope and accept her fate. “Fine Rosa you have to be strong for your family now it’ll be fine”. She tried giving herself a pep talk. She stood up trying to get a shower, she could hear her mum exchange pleasantries with a man.
