Chapter 1: Forced Marriage
Rosa stood in front of her mom, tears streaming down her cheeks as she questions her.
“You can’t just accept to marry me off just like that whole heartedly, especially to someone I don’t love mum. I am not some kind of property to given out like that! I have feelings and dreams of my own”.
Mrs. Kate stood there, with a poker face, as she listened to her outburst passively. With the look in her eyes she wasn’t budging.
“Rosa my dear, you know how important this marriage is to our family. Your father’s death has left us with no other option, we have lost everything he has built over the years and we are fast slipping into bankruptcy. Now life presents us with an opportunity we shouldn’t think twice”.
She said calmly.
“I don’t care! I won’t do it, and I won’t marry someone I don’t love just because it is convenient for you” Rosa screamed, her voice breaking
Mrs. Kate sighed heavily.
“You’re being selfish Rosa. This isn’t just about you, it’s about our entire family and our future. You need to understand that”.
Rosa was beyond reasoning. She had always been a dutiful daughter, but she was drawing the line this time. She couldn’t sacrifice her future and her happiness for the sake of family duty.
“I wouldn’t do it, I won’t be part of this arranged marriage”. She yelled sobbing.
Mrs. Kate wasn’t taking any more pettiness from Rosa, she has tried to convince her but she seemed adamant.
“I won’t take this behavior from you this marriage will go on, and you will do as I say.
I believe you don’t have any other better solutions to redeem us from this predicament.
So put yourself together for your wedding. I blame your father for all this mess after all he was the one who spoilt you with riches and gave you everything you ever wanted.
He worked every day and night to put food on the table but left nothing for us to hold on to after his tragic passing on. You are not a child anymore Rosa can’t you see for yourself that I am not getting any younger neither are you and we are lacking the resources to keep this family running smoothly, you need to start building up your life for the better future.
I can’t let the death of your father deprive you of the happiness you deserve you can’t continue to wallow in agony and pain, you need to move on my dear Rosa, marry a man that together you can build a brighter future with. Don’t be ignorant to this opportunity and let it slip off your hands.”
Mrs. Kate said to Rosa with an irresistible irritation written all over her face.
“Mum! This is the height of it, I am sure this is not what my dad would want for me he would have expected better form you mum.
I haven’t even met with this so called man that you want to marry me off to, I don’t have any feelings for him and I don’t love him too. My dad always wanted the best for me, he warned me about the caliber of rich men that are out there, they don’t want to marry you because of love but only to satisfy their lustful desires and keep you as a slave to them.
Yes, I am not a child anymore I should be allowed to make decisions for myself, decisions that will determine my future at that. I am still young and vibrant I can still be able to do things for myself. Losing my dad was a big shock for me and its only making me vulnerable you shouldn’t be the one to act on my vulnerability by marrying me off against my will. Its only time mum trust me I will get back on my feet this isn’t the best solution to our predicament now”.
Rosa explained to her mum with a heavy eye filled with tears and pain.
“Enough! I wouldn’t take this from you Rosa. This is what I hate about you and your father you are both cowards! I have told you this marriage will happen, you have two options either you flow along with the plans or this house wouldn’t contain the two of us anymore.”
She replied slamming the door behind her leaving Rosa all alone In her room. Mrs Kate hates to be reminded about the death of her husband, she was having a tough day trying to convince her daughter into the marriage but this was the height of it for her she left the room in annoyance.
Rosa’s eyes were opened to the reality of her fate, tears of regret and pain rolled out gently, from her little eyes.
Just as Mrs. Kate walked out of the room, leaving Rosa all alone she heard sounds of a vehicle.
She peeped through the window to see.
A black, sleek luxurious car accompanied by a convoy of three other SUV vehicles, gliding into her compound. The atmosphere was very serene and the presence of the billionaire was announced by his aura.
Mrs. Kate was quite inquisitive to know who graced her compound with his presence, because she wasn’t expecting any visitors and it has been a while they had such caliber of visitors since the death of her husband. She quickly looked around the house to know if everything was in order and neat. She stood still and observed and stayed still waiting patiently
