The first SUV pulled over and the chauffeur alighted from the vehicle. He walked towards the last vehicle among the convoy, he opened the door and Clark came down. He adjusted his suit and walked majestically into Mrs. Kate’s house, leaving his security outside. “Hello my child you are welcome to my home”. Mrs. Kate said opening her arms to embrace Clark, with a warm smile. “Good day Mrs. Kate. I hate to be a bearer of bad news but nonetheless I heard of the unfortunate events that befell upon your family I’m here to pay my condolences. Your husband happened to be one the best project managers I have happened to work with amongst the several companies I’ve worked with. The little time our both companies had a little partnership I couldn’t help but notice his diligence towards his work. Mrs. Kate I would like to know what happened”. Clark asked with a bit of curiosity on his face. … Mrs. Kate was quiet for a while and struggled to reply. She felt sober being reminded about the death of her husband. “my husband was indeed a diligent and hardworking man, he was so dedicated to his work and to the success of his company that sometimes it seemed as though as he doesn’t have time for his family he spent most weekends travelling and going for errands in the name of his company. The CEO of his company found favor in him and promoted him from being just a project manager to being his personal assistant and second in command after him. This caused uproar in his office but nobody couldn’t question the authority of their CEO. The promotion came with a lot of opportunities and both healthy and unhealthy exposure to different caliber of men. The promotion was like a good thing that brought happiness to our family with its right hand and took away the happiness with its left hand. Our family began to flourish and become stronger in financial terms and otherwise, his stature in the company gave him, more breathing space and time to stay with his family. He was quite fond of Rosa because she was our only daughter and child so he did anything she requested to make her happy. On a faithful weekend he travelled like he usually does to answer to business call but he never made it back to us alive he was killed on his way to the airport and up till today we haven’t been able to place the cause of his death. It has been six dreadful months since he passed on but the pain feels new every day, he was the bedrock of our family and now he’s no more”. Mrs. Kate said with her voice breaking as she was fighting the urge deeply not to cry in front of Clark. “Well… I feel sorry for you and your family; I’ll be giving you and your family a little token of 1 million dollars to hold on to as you go through this hard times just get across to me your details so I can get it across to you”. “Thank you so much my son I really appreciate your selfless visit to my family, we are really grateful”. Mrs. Kate said as she brightened up her earlier gloomy face. “Okay, this happened to be one of the reason for my presence here today, the second reason which I know you should be aware of. Before your husband’s passing your husband introduced your daughter to me and wanted to meet and relate with her but unfortunately I wasn’t able to meet with her before he’s demise, to perform my last respect to him ill like to seek for your daughters hand In marriage I sent my message across to you to get your reply on this before I come in person for the confirmation. Have you passed my message to your daughter?” Clark replied in a straight face covered with a bit of displeasure for being addressed in such manner. He was quite uncomfortable for being addressed as my son by Mrs. Kate. Clark is a deluxe billionaire, carefree about the thoughts and opinions of others. His opulent aura does more of the talking. People are always careful with their choice of words when talking to him. “Yes I passed the message to her. I am really grateful for your kind gesture towards my family in this our dark times. But however my daughter doesn’t seem to like the idea about this marriage”. Mrs. Kate replied calmly. “She has no other option. I am giving her a one time opportunity for her miserable condition, many would beg for this opportunity. I am only doing this because of the relationship I had with your husband, as a business partner”. Clark replied in a cold buy yet calm manner. Mrs. Kate was finding it difficult to communicate freely with Clark because of his cold demeanor. She didn’t like the manner to which he spoke about her daughter. She had no other choice but to be silent to prevent unwanted provocation. “I will speak to my daughter. You have nothing to worry about; she will consent to the wedding arrangements as soon as she gets a hold of herself”. “She better do, because I am running out of time”. Clark said as he looked straight into Mrs. Kate’s eye. “And about the wedding preparations, I will speak to my P.A about it. He’ll give you my response on the date for the wedding”. He reached for his briefcase and a tore a piece of cheque from the cheque book he had, Sliding out his special company pen from his pocket. “Here is a cheque of 1.5 million dollars to get you and your daughter prepared for the wedding. You have less than a week to get her ready”. He said and walked towards the door to take his leave. “Thank you, Clark”. Mrs. Kate muttered before Clark had shut the door. She was worried on how to convince her daughter within a short time frame. “I hope that this cheque would help Rosa see reasons to why she needs to get married to Clark”. My daughter has faced a lot of challenges and she is finding it very difficult to cope with the death of her father. As a young resilient lady who still has a future to fight for I think of it as right for me to get her married to Clark, this could be the only way for her to have a chance at life and to redeem our family. The opulence of Clark and the influence around him can help expose her to opportunities. I really hope that I’m not making the wrong decision for my daughter I really love her and wish for her happiness. Mrs. Kate pondered within herself as she thought of how to convince her daughter to move on with the wedding plans.
