Chapter 11: The book

He escaped. They both escaped, but the most alarming news was the fact that Ulic's remains had been stolen. That was very bad news. It was even worse. With his soul out of his body, his body was a tool. A mighty weapon. What were they hoping to achieve? Where they sending us a message? So many thoughts ran through my head and to regain my sanity I clamped them all down. These stupid super humans. All of them, just so unreliable. Well I have a new mission today. I had discovered a signature that matched exactly as the one in the cave tomb. I went out solo not the first time, as I always intended do it. It was this act that made my superiors angry with me, but it's my nature and I can't change now. Moreover, this was the seventeenth time and this would be interesting. I dressed in a dark blue sleeveless turtle-necked shirt and a black flay skirt stopping above my knee. I let my curly hair fall freely behind me and then put on a hair band to hold it from getting in my face. My blonde hair stopped a little short the base of my neck. I put on my watch, a silver colored feminine watch. A smart watch, I used it for communication during recon. It has a chip that stored infinite amounts of information. I had on my feet black long socks getting to my knee and white snickers. I didn't really like makeup, but I liked my lipstick. apple flavoring. It was more like a lip gloss. My turtle necked shirt was more of a face mask shirt. I needed to make sure I didn't compromise myself. The first time I had expected to see a man, probably old or middle aged with an evil looking nature. Instead it was a boy my age. We were both 17. He loved going to the library and it seems they were new in the area. If I wasn't so sure that it was his signature I had noticed in the tomb, I would have believed his every word. He said everything he said, with either a straight face or small smile. "I sure did dress to impress" I said to myself while checking the mirror. If I was correct he would go to the library I saw him in the enter the other day. It was by chance. I had seen him at times but I never knew his signature by heart. I waited by the adjacent Café for a few minutes, my stomach bubbling for no reason known to me, or to the reason I didn't want to know. I KNOW HIM!!! (Flashback) The Year the Supreme powers of world order built a new continent-just a few hours from Antarctica- the power agency went around gathering homeless children with powers or volunteered children from different parts of the world. They were mostly normal humans or super humans... Now that I think of it. When ordinary humans with powers are born, they are called normal humans with powers. So what differentiates us from the Super humans. 'Maybe their incredibly long life times. They also hardly give birth to children I noticed. Recently while I studied I realized that they had to sign some documents and get approved first. Phew. I so glad I'm normal. As I was saying. we were all gathered and I noticed him among the crowd. He had a really peculiar signature. But we were young, I ignored him since I saw him with a girl. One with white hair and rosy skin. An orphan like me couldn't interact with them. I knew my limits. Even though we coincidentally met over ten times in the coming days I didn't cross my boundaries. One day a man with green eyes, a really young man, came to the camp where we assembled. He handpicked a number of children and they followed him out. The white haired boy was also among them and so was the girl with rosy skin who I later found out was his sister. They went to get their things and left and I never saw them again. I had studied his signature by heart. Forgotten it. (End of flashback) But just like food or scent that has been forgotten and could be remembered, so could a signature and that's when I knew it was his and it clicked. Those children handpicked... They were picked for moments like this. To infiltrate, defeat and obtain special relics from the tombs of legendary demonic war crazed soups. They most have been trained exceptionally to be able to decieve such people who would take months and years to decieve!!! " No freaking way" I said loud, drawing attention from the people around. I pretended to be occupied on my phone. I was so excited and scared at the same time, so it was no surprise to me to see myself run towards him from the Café. (he had already entered the library.) He signed and left to the inner section of the library. I didn't need to keep my eyes on him when I could sense his presence, so I got my books... and followed him, not obviously. He stopped at a shelf and collected books to read. Then started coming back. I was sure he would notice me and greet and maybe politely ask me what I was up to and tell me he was going to read books about ancient tombs, so I wasn't surprised when he came to me and asked me if I always came to the library. I had given him a good time the day before, so we hit off well. Just that he wasn't too predictable, he wasn't reading that. He was reading another book. 'Human' by Iruho. " Hey what book is that?". I asked pointing at a second book on the table. " This old book?" He picked it up and was inspecting it. " it's a gift from my friend who died recently. Inside the book, the ordeal he went through before death is written. I read it every once in a while". I wanted to read that book. I needed to... Who was his friend? So many things ran through my head including... An Idea💡! "Hey. You look like one who could fight" I said. He gave me a look and c****d his head to the side. "Me?" he pointed to himself " I only ever took Aikido and Taekwondo classes, I never apply them" he said matter-of-factly. THIS LIAR "I'm a nice fighter myself, d'you mind if we spar".
