Chapter 28Alan went on and on about the missing girl. After an hour of the one-sided conversation the voice in Thomas' head had almost convinced him that he'd had something to do with her disappearance. “What does your Mary think about all this? Does it make her feel scared to walk alone at night?” Alan asked. It took Thomas a moment to remember who Mary was then it came back to him that he'd told Alan his girlfriend's name was Mary. 'Mary, Mary, quite contrary,' the voice sing-songed in his head. 'You haven't got a Mary, have you? And you'll never, ever, have a Nadia,' it added spitefully.
