Everything went dark with a eerie silence looming around me. “Oh come on are you f*****g kidding me right now?” I rub my face with my right hand out of annoyance “It’s not like I want to relive my past so either let me wake up already or let me rest in piece.” My thoughts seemed like screams but I kept my mouth clamped shut as I pulled my thoughts together then my whole body stiffens upon hearing his magnificent voice singing musically in my ears. My chest warms then a horrific pain shoots through it and I fall to my knees welling from the pain clutching my chest. The feeling of electricity coursing up my hand appeared dull along with the sound of his voice “I’m here Leigh it’s me Jase...” please wake up........I still haven’t had the honor of courting you.
I heard someone walk in then stop near us. The woman’s voice was a bit sharp but appeared gentle “Oh forgive me Beta Jase I didn’t realize Alpha Leigh had company but it’s time for her scheduled treatment sir.” Jase’s hold tightens as he growls “I will not leave her side and you can do your damn ritual with me present.” The woman’s voice stutter as well as quivers “B...but s......sir.” I hear something smashing against what I would guess to be stone being impacted with something shattering to pieces. The woman whimpers hearing Jase’s threatening warnings bowing her head in submission. Y.....yes s......sir I’ll i.......inform the h......h..healers right a.....away s....sir.
I could hear the woman’s feet as she scurried out opening the door pausing “Please f..forgive me Beta I m...mean no ill will s...sir.” She then quickly closes the door behind her leaving Jase alone with me. I feel an explosion of sparks firing off on my hand from his touch as he gently squeezes my hand leaning forward resting his head on mine “Wake up my princess warrior your prince awaits you......please wake up.” I drift into the abyss wishing to fulfill his request. My body shivers from the lingering chill. I can hear dull muffled voices but not what is being said nor from whom. The chill creeps throughout my body jolting me into the woods.
It’s winter breeze carrying the early morning flakes grazing my skin. I wrap my arms around my body uncontrollably shivering noting that I’m as bare as the day I was the day I was born “What the hell?” My teeth chattering as my breaths come out shallow causing small white clouds. I slowly walk further into the winter covered forest absent minded as to how I got here or why I am here let alone why the hell i am necked. I stopped in my tracks the moment my eyes locked onto those icy sky blue eyes with thick blonde fur standing tall on all four paws. “Those eyes.......I know those eyes no I know this wolf but how?” I take a couple of deep breaths to calm my racing heart then cautiously step closer to the majestic beast.
I would stop progressing each time the wolf would snarl or growl at me. I raised my right hand level with the wolfs head. I’d take a step or two then pause just to repeat the same process over again til I was an inch from its snout. I got on my knees and hands bowing with my right hand stretched further out and my head lowered in a sign of submission as well as me showing that I’m no threat. To my surprise the gorgeous wolf made an advance by sniffing my hand then bows in acceptance of my submission and respect. I smile as I raise my self enough to rest my entire weight on my knees with my rear resting on the heels of my feet. I cautiously raise my right hand once again but this time with the sudden urge to run my fingers through this beasts fur.
I couldn’t help but feel as though this magnificent creature somehow seemed familiar and the feeling that started from the pit of my stomach just grew by the second. Our eyes stayed locked onto each other’s as I leaned forward running my fingers through the wolfs fur. My heart hammers against my chest feeling as though this beast is apart of me. I stop mid stroke instantly retracting my hand placing it over my chest where a sudden pain appeared. As it intensified I could see something red seeping between my fingers realizing at that moment that the warm red liquid was blood.... my blood. I fall onto my back clutching tightly at my mysterious wound only for another one to appear groaning from the overwhelming pain.
I attempt to ignore my pain once hearing the wolfs whimpering while slightly nudging me laying beside me keeping me warm. All of a sudden the wolf yelps rolling to its side. I turned my head glancing at the wolf her gorgeous blonde fur dampens with red liquid as it spreads around it. My eyes widen with unshed tears croaking “No!” I bite on my lower lip drawing blood in an attempt to ignore the excruciating pain shooting throughout my body as I struggle to move to the wolf. My vision blurs by the second then I fall unable to support myself any further landing on my side beside the injured wolf. I blink fighting the urge to drift off into a darkness of slumber only to see a blonde and red blob laying in front of me.
The wolfs whimpers become faint. I slid my hand nearest to the creature slightly running my fingers through its fur. Please don’t leave me? As my vision goes dark I see the wolf starting to glow chasing away the darkness blinding me in the process. A gentle voice speaks directly to me “I wouldn’t have it any other way.” Tears fall down my face as she speaks once more “Now how’s about we make an entrance, huh bud?” I nod my head yes.
The next thing I know I feel some kind of energy consume me and I glance to where the woman was touching me. I gasp as I witness her glowing body turn to what resembles the Aurora Borealis in looks swirling around her seeping into me from our contact. My eyes snaps to my mysterious wounds inspecting it. The wounds tingled a bit but what felt extremely weird was the feeling of the wound closing up. The woman’s voice was soft “It’s ok Leigh I’m with you, now wake up.” My eyes shoot open taking in a sharp intake of oxygen frantically grasping for anything near me struggling to sit up only to be pushed back down in response. I begin to panic frightened to what’s going on “Let me go!”
A woman yells out “Let Beta Jase in NOW!” The entrance doors to the room burst open to a man rushing to me. Jase runs his fingers through my hair calming me by the second “Ssshhhh it’s ok Leigh I’m here.....I’m here sweetie calm down.” The sparks firing from his touch calms me tremendously lulling me to sleep. I felt his strong arms lifting me bridal style carrying me away. I snuggle closer into his embrace as I drift further into my welcomed slumber. My minds plays memories of my childhood before mom died.
I was chasing butterflies around on the mansions front lawn giggling periodically til I run into a boy falling back on my butt. I whine from the impact for a split second then stand back up brushing off my butt. I glance at the person I collided with “Oh I am so sorry I didn’t see you there.” The boy holds out a hand “Hi I’m Jase the bate’s son.” I glance at his hand then back to his face smiling while taking his hand into mine “Hey Jase my name is Leigh and I’m the Alpha’s daughter.” Jase’s eyes widened quickly bowing his head in respect “Please forgive me I had no idea your the Alpha’s daughter.”
I giggle lightly “It’s ok you’ve done nothing to offend me nor my family.” I observe Jase closely “So your the new beta family?” Jase lifts his head blushing ever so slightly “Um not necessarily new but yeah.” I raised a brow confused “What do you mean by that?” Well my dad is from here but my mom is from another pack and when they found each other my dad requested to stay with my mom at her pack til they had things settled.....they received news about my mom being pregnant almost a year later so my dad asked to extend his leave until I was born but was told he could change packs til they felt like coming back so that what they did.” I scratch my head “Ok so then why did y’all come back?”
He smiles “My mom’s brother finally found his mate and my grandparents handed the title of Alpha and Luna to them then there was y’all’s beta stepping down passing his title to his son....my dad.” I couldn’t contain my excitement “Wow you have Alpha blood in you that’s so cool!” His smile widens further “I like you Leigh.” My face turns red from my intense blushing “I..I like you too Jase.” I knew he didn’t mean it in the way I did but it felt good to admit it. Jase grabs one of my wrists pulling me “Come on I want to show you something cool.”
I ignored my surroundings as I starred at his hand holding onto me thinking to myself how I hoped to find such pure love waiting out there just for me. I sigh from the thought only to run into Jase’s back groaning from the pain and with my free hand embracing my nose. Jase immediately turns to face me “Oh Goddess, Leigh are you alright I’m so sorry I should have warned you.” He reaches for my hand that’s covering my nose “Here let me see.” He gently moves my hand away as he keeps his hand on mine he inspects my face and nose. He lifts his free hand to curesses my check leaning in with his eyes open starring into mine pecking a soft gentle kiss to the tip of my nose. I’m frozen in place shocked he’d do that.
I’ll be I guess he really did mean it like I did. I blankly star into his gorgeous eyes mesmerized by its beauty and his raw unfiltered emotions. Jase stammers “I..I’m so s....sorry I s....shouldn’t have done t...that.” I blush beaming a wide smile then take a leap of faith out of my comfort zone hugging Jase burying my face into his chest my voice is muffled “I hope to find you again someday.” He released a light laugh “Why would you have to search for me when I’m right here.” I look up into his eyes smiling “I hope my mate will be as kind and loving as you.” “And I hope mine will be as pure as you.... better yet I hope you are my mate.”
My chest fills with warmth. He steps to the side to show me “I wanted to show you this.” My jaw drops from the scene before me and goddess knows I couldn’t resist with sarcasm flowing “Oh Jase it’s so beautiful....... I mean seriously it’s an entrance to a cave.” I burst out laughing bending over wiping tears from my eyes struggling to get any air in my lungs. I glance up to Jase in between gasps to see his stern expression. I instantly stop laughing “Oh crap your serious I’m so sorry.” I straighten up wiping the unshed tears from my eyes one last time.
Jase releases a heavy sigh “The true beauty isn’t on the outside but dwells hidden within ones self.” I look at him astonished “Are you sure we’re the same age?” He smiles “Maybe maybe not now come on.” He grabs for one of my hands dragging me forward into the cave. I squinted my eyes attempting to readjust from the light change only to stop in my tracks gasp in awe. The inside is massive with moss covering around a large pond with a small water fall. There lay several patches of gorgeous flowers surrounding the pond with a small opening shinning with the evening’s gentle light.
I cover my mouth with my hands. Jase turns to face me “I want this place to be special for us and if that means we aren’t mates at least we can always be friends.” We spent an hour playing til dawn then we raced back to the pack house. I ran up to my mom hugging her then introduced Jase to her. Mom kneels extending her hand to Jase “Oh you must be our new bate’s son it’s a pleasure to finally meet you sweetie.” Jase takes her hand slightly bowing to her. Mom gestures to the thick wooden double doors “Come children supper is ready and everyone has already began eating.”
Jase and I race to the inside the pack mansion. I shout “Follow me I’ll show you the dining hall!” I can hear mom laughing with our eagerness for food. The first thing noticeable as you entered was a door to the far right and one on the far left then double doors positioned underneath two winding staircases branching out both sides. There’s a hallway on the far right past the door which we race past passing several other doors along the way til reach of opened double doors on the left side of the hallway revealing a massive room with multiple rows of tables lined up almost completely filled by pack members digging into their meals. There was a noticeable half square of tables that lined the furthest end of the room extending outward to the end I was standing with several other tables lined vertically in between the half square. Just about every seat was filled excluding mom’s seat and Jase’s seat by his parents which so happens to be right by father.
My seat is by mom since I’m a girl but I freeze tuning out Jase’s awed gasp as I notice my seat is occupied by another pack member. By the next Gamma with her parents sitting by her and the next In line for Delta sitting beside their parents. My gaze drifts past mother’s empty seat to father. I can feel my heart as it pounds against my chest welcoming fear with open arms. I jump from the sudden hand gently grasping my right shoulder. Mother’s voice is gentle as she soothes my nerves “Sshhh, it’s ok dear” I take in a deep steady breath and as I’m releasing it father spots us. A genuine grin stretches across his lips standing he addresses our entry with an strong authoritative voice “Ah my Queen the Luna and little princes has arrived with our newest member the beta’s son.”
Father gestures to us with open arms then motions for us to join everyone at the table. Mom is the first of us to walk then I immediately poise myself portraying confidence as I fallow mother then Jase fallows behind me. We walk along the left side of the wall where there is a walkway leading to the packs higher ranking seats in the dining room. Jase is the first to reach his spot but remains standing beside his parents then I suddenly realize I’m unsure where to go. Father stops me before I pass him then turns me facing everyone standing between Jase and father. My view of my is obscured by father so I’m unsure if she sat down or remained standing. My attention shoots back to father as he clears his throat causing the low murmurs to instantly stop “First the pack welcomes back our ole beta along with his family.”
Everyone stands bowing or curtsying in respect to the family. “Next thing as you know I do not have a son but I do have an heir and as of this moment I herby recognize my daughter as this packs further alpha and Luna!” My eyes widen when i instantly gasp utterly shocked that I’d ever be recognized. Father leans down as everyone has expressed their respects combined with pure joy. “Now my princess take your rightful seat by my side.” I couldn’t restrain the smile that appeared abruptly hugging father. His hearty laugh fills the dining room and hugs me back in response.
After supper I introduced Jase to all of the pack kids our age. I roam over the massive group of kids huddled around me and Jase “Ok guys this is Jase he’s our future beta so don’t be afraid to reach out... I mean he is one of us after all guys.” The horde of kids responded in unison “Yes Princess!” The horde of kids fled in all directions the moment our parents called for us for our night time routines. Me and Jase stayed together heading for my secret room. I quickly guided him through the maze of the pack castle racing into the enormously quiet library completely filled thousands of books lined from wall to wall. We zoom up a small spiral staircase to the second floor passing several aisles of book cases.
As soon as I spot Wolf origins I turn in rushing to the end of it. At the end was a dark dead end as we reached the wall I notice Jase confused expression. I struggle to stifle a giggle as I approach the wall then turn to face him “Do you trust me?” Jase smiles showing his white teeth slightly nodding his head yes. I swivel on my heels taking a deep breath in I kneel down carefully examining the wooden carved molding. The molding had hand carvings of wolves hunting then a pack howling to the the moon. I stop at the scene of the moon behind a woman and a wolf bowing to the woman. I lift my hand to this part of the molding then press down til I hear a faint clicking sound.
I glance back at Jase who is now amazed with the small hidden door. My attention jumps to the sounding of multiple sets of shoes hitting against wood. As silently and quickly as possible I open the door enough for us to enter then grab ahold of Jase’s hand pulling him in frantically closing the door with just a tiny crack leaving the door open. I motion for Jase to stay quite as the foot steps are getting closer. I anticipate the moment someone is to crash into my makeshift trap. The thought alone makes me smile uncontrollably. I start counting in my head once it sounds like they’re closing in on our position.
Next thing I knew CRASH! The second I heard the books hitting the ground I quickly pulled the door shut. Once I heard a clicking sound I knew it was closed and that they’d never find us. I turn whispering low enough only Jase could hear me “I’ll lead the way and you follow... oh and put your hand on my back so you’ll know where to go.” Jase snickers “Alpha blood remember?” I palm my face “right.” I couldn’t but help scold myself mentally “seriously Leigh everyone knows children with alpha blood gains their abilities earlier than other wolves.”
I shack my head questioning “How stupid can I really be?” Leigh it’s ok and your anything but stupid. We start walking further into the hidden passage way. My pace slows as I feel nauseous then lightheaded, but what frightens me is when Jase spoke. It was like he was speaking to me than at the same time some man’s voice was coming from Jase’s mouth. The fact that the voice i head was a bit muffled yet sounded like a baritone had me even more unsteady. I shack my head in attempt to shack the unwelcoming feelings only to instantly feel a sharp burning pain resonating from my chest where my heart is.
I stumbled backwards whimpering from the intense pain as the feeling of warm liquid covered the front half of my dress. I grip with both hands at the origins of the sudden wound. My vision goes in and out of focus and within each time what my eyes sees before me changes as well. The first time my eyes refocus I see a clearing with a rising moon shining down on me as father is cradling me rocking back and forth as we sit on the ground. The second time I can see thick chains coming from me to these massive stone pillars surrounding me creating a circle. The third time I see a tall young man hugging a beautiful young woman in a wooden cabin. The fourth time a strangled howl of anguish sounds from me as I see my father bleeding badly laying on a concrete slab with tears fall from his face.
My eyes rim with unshed tears a older version of Jase hovers over me. I notice the nights sky has just about reached its peak and that Jase’s mouth is moving. His voice seems impossible for me to hear than slowly his voice becomes a dull soft roar but his pleading words finally reach my ears. Jase’s voice drips with a combination of fear, pain, concern, love, and panic “Leigh stay with with me baby please just stay with me don’t leave me I can’t lose you not again.” My vision darkens around the edges as my eyes droop I hear Jase yell for help. My breaths are shallow but my mind is racing then freezes at the sound of his broken horse voice “Leigh I hope you can hear me Angel because this pack needs their Alpha....because I need my mate please don’t give up on us.” His warm hand sends electrical currents dancing across my skin as his hand grazes ever so lightly over my hand moving up my arm then back at a repeated steady motion.
This soothes me lulling me into a peaceful slumber. Joyful memories play out as dreams til father stops playing along with the memories by turning his head as though he’s looking at me directly arising to his feet from kneeling down at a mirror child like version of me. He strides confidently closer with a sorrowful smile “My babydoll it is time for you to shine now my little warrior now blind your enemies with your bright light and never give up... I will always be watching you sweetie.” The vision of father swirls like paint being mixed fading away. All off a sudden dozens of voices frantically yelling out orders as I fight to breathe coughing up some sorta liquid. Get this! grab that! Suppress the wound!
We’re losing her! Grab the syringe! She’s losing to much blood! Her pulse is weak! Everything goes quite once more. I don’t know how much time has past or if I’m actually alive as pain swirls throughout my body growing with intensity by the second. A pained groan escapes me as I attempt to pry open my eyes. A pair of feet Shuffling sounded against the stone flooring. The instant his hands touched me I knew who it was.
As I laid there he stocked my hair with one hand while grasping my hand with his then soothingly speaking to me at the same time. Jase’s voice portrayed such compassion “Ssshhhhhh, it’s ok Leigh I’m here sweetie don’t worry Angel.” Jase addresses somebody who’s standing close by “Quickly go fetch the nurse I think she’s about to wake.” Alex’s voice surprised me “I’ll do it just let Rebecca stay.” “Ok, just hurry Alex.” Alex’s feet hurriedly rushed out on the hunt for a nurse. A strangled sob came from who I would think would be Rebecca.
