Chapter 9 - Ace

Melody didn’t think I was serious when I first mentioned not letting her out of my sight but she very quickly realised just how serious I was. I followed her to every single one of her lessons so I could sit beside her and hold her hand. It was the only way I could be sure that doubt over my love for her wouldn’t creep into her mind and force her to try pushing me away again. There was no way I would let anything come between us, following her every step was the last of what I would do for her. Melody’s last lesson for the day was psychology. It was the only class we had in common, so it was the only class where my behaviour didn’t attract strange looks from the professors or the other students. I did however have to put up with Palmer’s cheesy grin for the entire lesson. He was happy for me but he was also a little jealous that he hadn’t met his mate yet. His birthday was a few weeks after mine and although he was faring much better than I was with being away from the pack, he still desired to meet the woman he would spend forever loving. When he looked at the two of us together he was probably seeing what things would be like between him and his future mate. Melody still didn’t understand a lot of things when it came to werewolves, so she probably found his attention strange and uncomfortable. Every time she noticed him looking at her she shifted awkwardly in her seat and then shuffled her chair a little closer to me. I don’t know what she thought was going on but I was glad to have her so close to me regardless. She had her head lowered as she tried to focus on taking notes about the lecture, although fingers were still and I could tell that she was keeping an eye on Palmer out of the corner of her eye. He noticed this as well and let out a small chuckle, causing Melody to whimper and lower her head further. Once she settled into her seat again I inched my chair a little closer to her and placed my arm over her shoulders. “He isn’t trying to be inappropriate, he knows you belong with me,” I whispered. She shuddered against my body and the smell of her arousal spiked making my mouth water. It had only been a few hours since I was last inside her but our bond was so new that the hormones were making us insatiable. The few hours since we last made love felt like an eternity. If I thought I could get away with it then I would have gotten down on my knees and tasted her right there, underneath the desk. “I didn’t think he wanted me, he probably thinks you have lost your mind for wanting someone like me. Just like everyone else on campus.” “No. Everyone is jealous because I am the only one who gets to taste you.” I ran my tongue over the skin on her neck and shoulder, it wasn’t as nice as tasting the nectar from between her thighs but it would have to do for now. The lesson was already drawing to a close, I wouldn’t have to wait much longer till I could taste every inch of her. “I am so jealous,” Palmer declared as the lesson wrapped up and people started exiting the room around us. Melody glanced at him before blushing heavily and looking away. “You are my best friend and my future Beta, but if you don’t stop staring at my Luna like that then I am going to have to kick your ass,” I growled. “I’m not going to touch Melody. I am just lonely and want to meet my mate.” Palmer was very careful not to look at Melody as he spoke. That was good because my wolf was already close to the surface and he didn’t want anyone so much as looking at his mate. “You should probably take her back to our pack for a few days. The two of you would be better off around family until your bond is at full strength.” “Pack?” I held Melody’s hand, I would answer her questions later once we were alone but this wasn’t really the right place. “I thought about that, it would also help with her transformation.” I agreed. “Transformation?” “s**t. Didn’t you explain any of this before you sank your f*****g teeth into her?” Palmer knew better than to growl at an Alpha, but I could tell that he was only just managing to hold back his anger. I wish I could say that his anger was misplaced but it wasn’t, I knew better than to mark my human mate without giving her all the information. I should have never let my emotions get the better of me like that. “She kept talking about leaving me after she had slept with me, my wolf couldn’t let that happen.” My wolf let out a growl within my mind. He didn’t like being blamed for my actions, because even though I knew I shouldn’t have marked her the way I did, there was no denying that I was the one who was in control at that moment. “Bullshit Ace. She is a human, she doesn’t know how to perform the rejection ritual and even if she did it’s not irreversible unlike what you did to her.” Palmer wasn’t even trying to keep his anger hidden from me any longer, he looked as though he was moments away from punching me. “I admit that my actions were rash but I am still your future Alpha and you will speak to me with the respect owed to me,” I growled. My wolf pushed his way forward, fighting with me for control. I pushed him back knowing that if I let him out Palmer wouldn’t stand a chance against me, and my mate might even get hurt in the crossfire if she tried to intervene. I knew that I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if I did anything to hurt Melody, even superficially. “Respect owed to you, that is a joke. I wonder what your parents would say if they heard about you marking a human without explaining the consequence first.” My temper was rising and I was losing the fight with my wolf. The claws bit into the palm of my hands as I tried desperately to keep some small slither of control. If he didn’t back down in the next few minutes then there would be nothing I could do to stop my wolf lashing out. “What is rejection? Are you planning to reject me?” Melody placed her hand on my arm. Her words and her gentle touch acted like cold water, instantly extinguishing the flames of my anger. I turned away from Palmer and pulled my mate into my arms, holding her head against my chest. “There is no force on this planet that would make me reject you,” I told her while slowly stroking her hair. Rejection was impossible now that she wore my mark and I wore hers, she would understand that soon enough. “I don’t know what it is but it sounds like it would solve all your issues, that way you wouldn’t be stuck with a fat ugly woman like me.” Tears started falling down her face making my heart ache. I put my fingers under her chin and tilted her head up towards me before kissing the tears on her cheeks. “You are neither fat nor ugly and you need to stop talking about yourself in that way or I will be forced to show you how sexy you are right here.” We were still in the classroom but I desperately wanted to bend her over the table and make her scream my name in pleasure, I didn’t even care who walked past the room and saw us together. I let my hands trail down her body until they reached her hips, and then I pulled her tightly against my body so she could feel my erection pressing against her stomach. “I’m not sure that’s a good idea, anyone could come in here.” Her words sounded hesitant but I could feel her desire for me and smell her arousal, they were pulling at my restraint and making it hard for me to resist her. She tried to step away from me but my grip on her was too firm and I didn’t want to stop touching her when she was already upset. “She has a point, Ace. Maybe we can get some dinner somewhere and then the two of us can tell her all the things you should have told her before you marked her.” I wanted to tell Palmer to f**k off. The way he was talking made it sound as though he didn’t trust me to be alone with my mate, the only thing that changed my mind was how enthusiastically Melody nodded her head in agreement when he mentioned food. In hindsight, I probably shouldn’t have let her convince me that she only needed coffee for lunch. She was probably starving. “I know the perfect place,” I replied, smiling as I quickly picked up Melody’s bag.
