Fighting For Her Love

Chapter 15 - Ace

Melody got more and more nervous as we approached the border of my pack. She was worried about what my pack members would think of her and she was no longer listening to my reassurances that everyone would love her.

“Your phone is vibrating again.” I could feel Melody’s suspicious gaze on me as she spoke. Her jealousy was unfounded but it was probably to be expected given my history and how close her wolf was to surfacing.

“It is probably just my mom again, she is so excited about finally getting to meet you. You should probably put her mind at ease by letting her know how close we are.” I took my phone out of my pocket and handed it to my mate although I could feel her reluctance from the way that she took hold of the device. She glanced at it for a few moments before trying to put it back into my pocket.

“If you keep touching me like that then I will have to pull over and make sure you finish what you started. Although, I am not sure my mom will be too happy about us being late.”

“It’s not like that, I just… I can’t check your phone, it is an invasion of your privacy.”

Melody’s cheeks had already turned bright pink through embarrassment and it was so damned cute that I wanted to kiss her. Humans had all these rules about how people should act when they were in a relationship, it was so limiting and most of those rules were pretty stupid anyway.

I had only been living around humans for a few years but I had already seen many relationships fail because humans didn’t tell each other how they really felt. I would never let anything so simple damage our relationship.

“Don’t worry about that, you could literally look into my mind if you wanted to.”

“What?!”

“You can already feel my emotions but as our bond gets stronger that ability will get stronger. Eventually, our bond will be so strong that you will be able to read my mind if you want to.”

Melody shuddered. She was still very human at the moment and I am sure that was what was fueling her repulsion, once she understood our bond better she would change her mind. Sharing everything with your mate was one of the most precious gifts given to us by the goddess. I had been told that all my life but I was only now starting to fully understand what it meant, and it wouldn’t be long before Melody felt the same way.

“Don’t worry Luna. You can block me out of your mind if you want to but I will never block you from my mind, I have nothing to hide from you.”

She leaned back in her seat and looked down at my phone which was still in her hand. She wasn’t as tense any more but she was still hesitant. As she was trying to work out what to do, my phone vibrated and the screen lit up with another message from my mom.

“Oh no!”

“What is it?”

“You didn’t tell me your mom was throwing us a party.”

“f**k, I told her not to do that.”

Everyone in the pack had been so excited about meeting their future Luna that my mom had suggested inviting everyone in the pack to a welcome home party in our honour. I had tried to shut that idea down as I knew it would be a little overwhelming for Melody, but I clearly hadn’t done enough to dissuade her.

I gripped the steering wheel tighter as I tried to control the anger that was threatening to overtake me and my wolf. I was meant to be the next Alpha of this pack, how was I meant to lead a pack if my mom wouldn’t even listen to my very clear instructions?

“We can give it a miss if you like. There is a hotel nearby, we could spend the night there and head over to our pack in the morning.” I suggested as I pulled over to the side of the road and stopped the car.

“We can’t do that, your mom went to a lot of trouble to set up this party. She even baked your favourite cake according to this message.” She held up my phone so I could see the last of the twelve messages my mom had sent me in the last couple of hours.

“I don’t care about that, I only care what you want.” I wasn’t going to let my mom bribe me into doing something that made my mate feel uncomfortable. I had already messed up with her far too many times, I had to prove to her that I was going to be the kind of mate that she deserved from now on.

“Well, you did tell me that everyone in your pack would be eager to meet me, so maybe it is a good idea to meet them all at once rather than delaying it.”

“Are you sure?” I asked as I leaned over towards her and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. Her eyes fluttered closed and the scent of her arousal wrapped around me, it was as though her body was trying to give me additional incentives to avoid this party.

“It is tempting to hide in a hotel room with you for the evening but I have a feeling that if I do that then we might be there for a lot longer than one night.”

“You know me so well already.” I purred before pressing my lips against hers. I kissed her passionately until she was breathing heavily and the whole car smelt of her arousal before reluctantly pulling away from her. As I started driving towards our pack again my wolf whimpered and begged me to stop the car and take care of my mate.

‘We have to stop, can’t you smell how much she wants us?’ I ignored my wolf and kept driving.

We were quickly approaching the edge of our territory and I could already tell that the party my mom had thrown for our arrival was going to be huge. There was bunting tied to almost all of the trees and lamp posts in the street and they had placed huge planters filled with colourful flowers along the edges of the roads. It must have taken them hours to prepare all of this.

‘Don’t ignore me human, this is really important.’

“Wow this place looks beautiful,” Melody exclaimed while staring out of the window in awe. I didn’t realise that flowers would make her this happy. I would have to make sure I got her fresh roses every morning so I could start each day seeing that beautiful smile of hers.

‘That will probably have to wait till after her heat,’ my wolf interjected.

Heat? I had assumed that she wouldn’t go into heat until after her wolf had fully surfaced but now that my wolf had mentioned it her scent had changed a little bit since last night. It was a little sweeter and if my wolf was right then it would continue to get sweeter over the next week until she went into full heat.

That meant I would have to speak to her about birth control sooner rather than later. Her human birth control was going to be pretty ineffective once she went into heat and I didn’t want to face her wrath if I didn’t make her aware of that fact before her heat hit. That however was a problem for another day. Today’s problem was getting through this party without anyone making my mate feel uncomfortable.

My wolf laughed. ‘She would be much more comfortable alone with us in a nest, not that you are going to listen to me.’ He told me before fading into the background of my mind. I had a feeling that was all the ‘help’ I would get from him for the rest of the afternoon.
