Dark Spire 1

2000 Words
Julius began his remodeling of the island and it took him 9 days before he finished. During this time, he didn’t return to the First Sanctum, and all business related to the alliance he had with the Aurumfaust dwarves, Redgrove elves, and the Auxpex humans were handled by his wife, Eisha. Since entering an alliance with the Aurumfaust dwarves and humans of Auxpex, Julius made sure to tell them that he also had an alliance with the Redgrove elves who were close to the Shifting Hallows. This naturally came as a surprise to King Sithaeth and Queen Yvette but it was nice to know that the fiends, despite how gruesome their physical appearance was with their somewhat murderous nature, were in an alliance with the peace-loving elves. The unexpected alliance between the two races proved to the two leaders that Julius was at least a trustworthy ally since elves wouldn’t randomly form alliances with just anyone, especially if the opposing side was even a little bit suspicious.  Superficial acts of kindness that had a hidden but dark motive behind it would never escape the intuition of the elves so it put these two leaders at ease to know that Julius was actually able to ally himself with the elves, although it was only some elves from a backwater area. However, an elf was still an elf. Julius’s alliance with the Redgrove elves showed Sithaeth that he could put his trust in the young man without worrying that Julius and his fiends would breach the terms of their alliance and backstab them. Yvette was also the same and since she was a human and saw how much Julius hated humans, this put her extremely at ease. She saw just how merciless the young man was towards humans and she would rather become his ally than an enemy.  Her people would definitely lose against those pale fiends even if they had an advantage in numbers and this kept her up at night since it could be today or tomorrow, or even the next week, month, or year, that Julius might suddenly decide to just kill her and her people. However, with the elves backing his trustworthiness, Yvette’s mind was greatly put at ease since she knew that unless she was the one that breached the terms of their alliance, Julius wouldn’t do anything to harm her or her people. At the moment, the representatives of the new ‘Neutral’ Alliance were now discussing the recent ongoings within the new Auxpex Kingdom’s territory. Dwarves and fiends have started to openly move into the territory and were working together with the humans to rebuild any of the damages done to their lands after their alliance’s armies had swept through it. Everything as of late was moving according to their plans and progress was being made on all fronts in a rather speedy manner. One most significant progress made was the elimination of a few chapels of the Holy Light Religion and the exile of any Holy Light believer from the new Auxpex Kingdom’s lands. This was a strict requirement from both Julius and Sithaeth to which Yvette had no right to retort because the two didn’t want any enemy influence within the borders of their alliance members’ lands.  Yvette understood this and gave them both her complete cooperation. She also felt that the church was to blame for the humans’ falling out with the dwarves. If they hadn’t tried killing Sithaeth’s precious daughter, Brunhilda, things wouldn’t have progressed to their current state. Of all the operations and plans the three leaders had planned out, only the demolition and exile of the Holy Light Religion's members and churches didn’t go so smoothly. It was hard to keep things in order since they were exiling the state religion of the 3 former kingdoms of Halox, Bentra, and Polus. A lot of humans were exiled or killed during this whole operation.  This resulted in riots and skirmishes between the dwarves and fiends against the believers of the church. Naturally, the fiends weren’t going to be friendly and just outrightly killed anyone that didn’t want to exile themself from the alliance’s lands. The fallout of this ‘purge’ was what the three leaders had convened to discuss. “Lady Eisha, about the recent riots. The fiends are doing a splendid job, but is it possible to tone down on the killing? It would be better for the public if the criminals or people involved were put to trial and doled fitting punishments,” Yvette suggested after giving Eisha and Sithaeth a report about the increasing riots from the people. The problem with the recent riots was that it wasn’t just the Holy Light believers that were causing them, ordinary people were now mixed up in it because they were fearing for their lives. If other humans were killed just because they possessed a religion, who was to say that next time, they wouldn’t be killed just from angering the dwarves or fiends? Of course, this wouldn’t happen because Julius and Sithaeth were only specifically targeting those that had faith in the Holy Light Church which was basically the alliance’s enemies. “...” Eisha remained silent as she was thinking. Honestly, she could care less for what happened to those people but she understood where they were coming from. Unlike her husband, Eisha was more lenient. Her silence was misunderstood as showing her disagreeing stance so Yvette tried to say a few more things to convince her. “Killing everyone will just thin out our already small population! Also, it would break the trust between our three races! Even if we tell the public that we’re only aiming for the Holy Light Religion’s people, who’s to say that they wouldn’t blend in with the normal people and incite them with false statements!” Eisha raised her hand and said, “I understand where you’re coming from, Queen Yvette. After all, I was human too.” “Hm?” “My husband hates you, humans, to the core, but it isn’t your entire race as a whole, just the church.” “Well, your husband has made that very clear to all of us, but the common people won’t be able to see nor understand that!” “Yes, they probably won’t. We’ll follow your suggestion to have them put on trial and be punished.” Yvette smiled and replied, “Thank you!”  “However, if any of them are found guilty of being a Holy Light believer, they will be put to death via a public execution. This should incite a little bit of fear in the masses and show them that people who hold the religion in their hearts and minds are criminals.” Sithaeth nodded at Eisha's suggestion. It was brilliant since not everyone was a believer and the church’s influence here wasn’t as strong as at other places on the continent. If they showed the people that being a believer was a crime, they’d prevent anyone without the faith of the religion from being incited by those people who were faithful to the Holy Light. Yvette thought for a moment before nodding to Eisha’s suggestion and even added something else to it. “After the public execution, may I suggest that we put up a reward for anyone who reports findings of people who are believers? It’ll cause the masses to be skeptical of each other and enforce the notion that people of the church are criminals.” Eisha and Sithaeth quickly agreed to Yvette’s new suggestion and they quickly put their new plan into motion. Proto was in the conference room with them, sitting on Eisha’s lap, so Julius was able to know about the results of their meeting. Speaking of Julius, he was currently busy overseeing the last bit of construction of his fiends’ new sanctum. On his floating island, Julius was meditating in the middle of his dark sanctum. He decided to call this place the Black Spire solely because of the dark-colored spire which was built right in the middle of the floating island reaching as high as a few hundred meters into the sky. The spire was actually even larger than that because the lower portion of it had pierced through the ground and emerged from the underside of the floating island. This portion that was poking out had now become the primary entrance for his fiends who wanted to enter this place.  It was now impossible to land on the island from the sky because after the 9 days of modifications, Julius was able to build dark fiend flesh walls around the island and the new buildings inside permeated the entire place with dark fiend plasm. With the dark fiend plasm in place, it enhanced the negative energy in the atmosphere and it now formed some sort of negative energy barrier around the island. This barrier covered only the top side of the island in a closed hemisphere, barring anyone, including Julius and his fiends, from entering and landing. Any flying monster that tried to attack the island would have to break through this barrier first and even if they could break it, the negative energy inside the barrier would just spill out, barring them from trying to dive into the interior because long exposure to this energy would kill them...or mutate them into fiends who would soon fall into Julius’s chain of command. This was a new aspect of Julius's negative fiend energy that he just found out from staying here on the island. There had been a plentiful amount of monster attacks during his time here. Julius had to defend the island with the few dark fiends that were with him and it was a grueling onslaught that left him with little to no rest. It was like the monsters knew that something was up and they came in droves to eliminate his dark sanctum. Thankfully, he found out that by using his negative fiend energy, Julius was able to infect the monsters he attacked and transformed them into dark fiends. This wasn’t something he could do with positive fiend energy, but then again, Julius did remember that the undead zombies were able to infect living creatures with their bites and turn them into zombies themselves. The negative energy was definitely the cause for this infection ability and now, his fiends had gained access to it.  Julius was meditating right now because he wanted to increase the amount of negative fiend energy he possessed inside his body. He needed to balance out the amount of positive and negative energy inside him because right now, he had a higher amount of positive energy. This was normal because he had been cultivating positive fiend energy for a while now. Thankfully, it had only been a month or so. It wouldn't take him too long to equalize the amount of energy inside of him. It was at the system’s behest that he did this and Julius saw that there was no reason to refute it. Having a balance was always good and empowering his ‘infection’ ability by increasing his negative energy was definitely a win. “This should be enough for today…” Julius exited his meditation and slowly floated down to the ground. The inside of his spire had been mostly completed while the space outside of the spire had been completed. “Let’s go check the dark pool.”
