More Training

“Tsk, these flying monsters are just a pain in the ass…” It was already near the evening but Julius and his dark fiends were only on their third floating island right now. An entire island housed so many monsters so it wasn’t that much of a surprise. The number of monsters that attacked him and his fiends during the past few days because they were agitated by the negative energy his Dark Spire was emitting easily numbered in the thousands. Now Julius knew why since every floating island that was inhabited by these monsters easily had thousands of them nesting around despite the islands being only half a kilometer or more in diameter. All of the islands had a somewhat uniform shape since the spatial anomaly and gravitational imbalance were evenly distributed around the central regions of the Shifting Hallows. This anomaly in nature wasn’t something he could find out the answer to but Julius wanted to know why these monsters grouped up in such a way and how they could even procure food for every member of their flock when it was highly doubtful that there was enough to fill the stomachs of every thousand monsters. In fact, Julius wondered if these monsters even ate anything at all, or instead of typical food, they ate something else because the Shifting Hallows would definitely be plunged into even more chaos if these monsters went out to hunt for prey. Killing these monsters also yielded little to no resource because after they died, the flying monsters’ corpses would slowly dissolve into ash so there was nothing to be obtained from a pile of ashes. “These were the only islands nearby. I’ll end today’s session here and see whether we should continue tomorrow or not…” It was tedious work killing these monsters. A few of his dark fiends had been severely injured during the clean-up because they had to fight with so many monsters at one time so if he kept on pushing forward, things may end up badly for them. His fiends couldn’t even heal themselves because the energy they needed to sustain their healing capabilities, the corpses of the enemies they killed, became nonexistent after they turned into ashes. “Cleaning the airspace around us might take a while but at least this should stop some of those flying monsters from attacking.” Julius and his dark fiends quickly returned to their Dark Sanctum, but an unexpected guest was waiting for them. “Honey~” “Eisha? What are you doing here?” “You’ve been gone for a while and Eisha wanted to come to see you!” “Have you finished things up with the dwarves and humans then?” “Mhmm!” Julius pulled his wife close to him and leaned down to kiss her. “Good work, honey~” “Thank you, my love, but why are you waiting out here and not inside?” Eisha had arrived here without notifying him but that was fine. However, he found it odd that she was waiting around for him at the bottom end of the Dark Spire without going inside. Julius was able to notice this because his wife’s hair was a little bit messy due to the wind and how cold her hands and body were when he held her in his arms. Julius had constructed the Dark Spire so it had many rooms. Finding a place to wait inside shouldn’t have been a problem for Eisha since it wasn’t like there was a restriction placed on who could enter. Even if there was, she was the Matriarch and Julius’s wife. Julius would also never restrict Eisha in going around and doing as she pleased as long as she was within his fiends’ territory. “Well, Eisha wanted to go in earlier, but the atmosphere...it felt weird and suffocating so Eisha decided to wait outside for honey,” Eisha replied with a bright smile on her face. Her lips were a little chapped and pale due to the cold wind. Julius leaned down and began licking her lips to moisturize them. “Hehe~ honey~” “I’m sorry for making you wait. You should have told me that you were coming. Your body still isn’t acclimated to negative energy so it’s no wonder you felt uncomfortable here.” Julius waved his hand and created a thin barrier around his wife before carrying her up into the Dark Spire. Once they were inside, Eisha looked around and nodded to herself, “Now this feels okay. Earlier, it felt like the air was pressing down on Eisha’s chest and it was very hard to breathe!” Julius looked down at his wife and stared at her large, perky chest before smirking. Eisha saw this and smacked her husband on his chest. “That’s not what I meant!” “Hahaha!” “Honey!” Julius had a good laugh before seriously saying, “Since you’re here, my love, I’ll help you acclimate your body with negative energy now. I’m sure there will be plenty of benefits for you once you’ve acquired this new power.” “Mhm, Eisha feels like honey has gotten a lot more powerful than before after you began training here.” “Yes, definitely, and for that reason, my love, you’ll have to remain here for a while and train as well!” “Okay,” Eisha nodded at his words before she turned her attention to her surroundings. Julius had already walked up to the ground floor of the Dark Spire during their conversation and had exited the spire’s front door. “Seems… a little gloomy…”  The atmosphere was indeed rather gloomy since the negative energy barrier blocked out most of the sun’s light from shining down onto the island, causing the inside to be a little dimly lighted.  “So, has honey finished remodeling this island?” “Yes, everything’s pretty much done. The creation of the new Dark Fiend hero unit is already underway but it’ll definitely take a while for its completion.” Julius let her down but continued to stay close to Eisha as she began walking around the island. After going around the island a few times, Eisha was finally satisfied and turned to Julius, “Honey, let’s start the training now!” “Alright. Also, once you’ve reached a point where you think you can tolerate the baptism of the Dark Pool, make sure you take a dip in it. It’ll help you quickly equalize the negative and positive energies within your body!” Julius brought his wife to the highest floor of the Dark Spire before he released the barrier he had put up around Eisha. Once the barrier was down, Eisha immediately began frowning as the adverse effects that negative energy had on her unacclimated body began to kick in. She experienced a little bit of nausea along with a bit of pressure pressing down on her body which resulted in her feeling as if she was short of breath. “H-Honey...how long does this take?” Julius had a sad look on his face since he really didn’t like seeing his wife suffering like this. However, all of this was necessary because as the fiends’ Matriarch, Eisha had an important role as Julius’s proxy so she needed strength to back up her status.  She was already smart, that’s for sure, but Eisha was lagging behind in strength if measured with the standards of the other leaders of the 2 races the fiends were allied with. “I’m afraid it’s going to be a long and tedious process. My love, you’re going to have to bear with these harsh conditions as you acclimate yourself with negative energy.” Julius sat his wife down on a cushion he had prepared before he began teaching her the breathing method and energy path that the negative energy was required to flow through inside her body. Once she memorized it, Julius informed her that right now, they were on the upper floors of the Dark Spire and she needed to move down at least six floors and cultivate on each floor until she could no longer feel the adverse effects affecting her body before Eisha could truly say that her body had completely adapted itself to negative energy. There were 10 upper floors and Eisha was on the topmost floor, the tenth floor. Each level had various degrees of negative energy concentration with the highest floor having the lowest concentration. Going down a floor would result in an increase. “Don’t worry, my love. I’ll be right here next to you.” “Th-that’s reassuring…” “Now concentrate. Remember to breathe according to the breathing technique and once you’ve acquired a few strands of negative energy, circulate it inside your body following the pathways I showed you earlier.”
