CHAPTER 54
A FIRST STEPA week after her kidnapping ordeal, Jamie visited her mother at home after being discharged from hospital. She barely made it into the house before her mother embraced her.
“How are you feeling?” Jamie asked.
Her mother stood up straight, wearing a knitted jumper and baggy black pants. She had more colour in her face and beamed at her daughter. “I am fine, darling. I need to be asking you that.” She reached for Jamie’s hand. “I am so sorry you went through this. So sorry. And that creep, Gregory, did this to you?” She bowed down and cried as she moved over to the couch. “This is all my fault. How could that bastard claim to love me and then r**e my own daughter? He is sick, so sick, and I am sorry.”
