CHAPTER 45
HOME INVASIONAngelo stared at the woman in the bed, fresh bruising and cuts around her eyes, and a bandage around her head. She looked weak and fragile, clearly unconscious but breathing on her own. Her hair had been partly shaved. She had been admitted into the city hospital, and not the one where Jamie worked. He had notified Jamie about her mother, but she hadn’t yet arrived.
He turned to the sound of a voice. “Is Jamie here yet?”
Angelo faced Gregory. “Not yet, but on her way.”
Gregory leaned forward and shook Angelo’s hand before sitting at Violet’s bedside and taking her still, pale hand in his own. “Have you heard anything, Detective, or has the doctor said anything about her condition?”
Angelo shook his head. “No, he’s going to wait for Jamie to get here.”
