CHAPTER 31 THE ATTACKJamie was in bed when a strange noise propelled her to get up. She hugged her body tight in her flimsy nightgown as she crept out of bed, one foot after another with a chill in her bones. The time on her digital clock showed midnight as she stepped onto creaky floorboards and entered the living room. Her eyes wandered, but it was all dark and empty until she switched on the light. She made her way up the stairs to the attic and checked underneath her desk and the surrounding areas.
