Chapter 2~ Jamie's point of view: "That was her" my wolf whispered as she scampered away, "you're seriously going to push her away just because of the pack and their traditions?" "I have to, if I'm going to keep everyone happy, I need to end this all now" My wolf, Topaz, as upset as he was, he understood that this was needed. I couldn't have her near me otherwise this wasn't going to end well. I shook the thought of her off and composed myself back into the heartless bastard I was known to be. After all, I have earnt my label. I made my way back into the dining hall to join my father. "Where have you been" he didn't even need to draw his eyes upon me to know who he was talking to. "I needed some air" He drew his face up. I knew he could see right through me, "sit down" I took a seat next to him. The night dragged on and eventually, the party ended. We thanked, said our goodbyes and left. As the son of the most powerful Alpha this side of the state, I had to show no weakness and that meant no emotions to anyone. I had my own personal driver to take me back to our territory which gave me time to think about my actions. I could hear my wolf whimpering. He was much softer than I was. He needed his mate to survive unlike me, I was more than capable of looking after myself. I didn't need any woman; besides, women just get in the way and make you weak. I had to focus on becoming more powerful than my father. As much as I detested my father at times, he was strong and powerful although I hated the way he treats my mother. He didn't love her and as far as he was concerned, she was a waste of space and her job was to give life to the next alpha. I always promised myself that I would never follow in his footsteps and my Luna would be idolised and worshipped by my pack if I ever became Alpha without the presence of my father around. "We're here sir" I heard my driver call from the front. I stepped out of the car. We arrived back at the packhouse in good time. The packhouse was a good size for over 700 of the pack members. although I couldn't help but feel that this pack was made of heartless, selfish beasts. I had promised that if I were even to start a family of my own there was no way I would ever start my family here. My head was a bit of a mess and I knew the best thing was to go to bed and deal with the aftermath in the morning. As I pondered up the stairs, I heard my father call "Jamie, I need to speak with you" "Yes father" I replied "Is there something you want to tell me" "No father" I had prep talked myself through this in the car, I was calm, I have been working on keeping my feelings hidden, to say the least. He looked at me carefully before dismissing me from the room. As I followed out and made my way to my room, I chanted to myself "do not let him know" for the sake of my mate, she is already dead. Arthur point of view: My son walked out of the hall leaving me with my beta, Demetrius. "Something is going on with him," I said slyly "I agree on sir" "He's going to pay for not telling me" I could feel the rage build inside of me, before drawing my eyes towards where the Beta's son was standing. "What is it, boy?" I asked sharply "I have some news to report" he stated before his eyes widened, "it's about Jamie, I saw him talking to the daughter of alpha Archie and Luna hazel" "I think we have some business to do with them, boys". A smirk grew as I knew Jamie was going to pay for hiding this from me, and it wouldn't be long till I got my revenge. Jamie's point of view: I left the room and sighed a breath of relief once I closed the door. Now to find my mother, she knew how to cheer me up. I made my way through the rooms to the back of the library where I would find the staircase to the cellar. I knocked on the door twice before catching a glance to ensure no one saw me and I slipped through. I made my way down the stairs to find her wringing clothes through a mangle in from of the log fire. I hated that my father kept her out of the way down here while he lived a 5-star life elsewhere, however, I was just grateful that she was alive. I took a seat next to her and started to pair socks in the basket. "So how was it?" she questioned with her eyes bright. I didn't reply, instead, I shrugged and didn't take my eyes off the basket. As much as I wanted to tell her about my mate, I knew it wasn't worth the heartache and for now, she is non-existent. "You must have enjoyed something! Always find the ray of sunshine in a raincloud" "I know mom but you should have been there" "Nonsense" she snapped "I'm more than happy that I'm here and I'm able to watch you mature into a young man" She was the kindest person I had ever met. I always hoped that one day my Luna would be just as caring and kind-hearted as she was. She grabbed me by the shoulders and held me close "just remember I'm proud of you and if you ever need me, you know where I am" "Thank you" I whispered as I embraced her into a hug. I left the cellar to go to my room, making sure I didn't cross paths with any of the other pack members. I did not want any of the she-wolves trying to lure me into their rooms. My father tells me that mistresses are a key to being a good leader, however, I struggled to see his point of view. Mistresses won't take the pain away of wanting the only person who was made for you. The moon goddess wouldn't choose just anyone, they are the other half of your soul. After 4 flights of stairs, I successfully made it to my room door. I was relieved, to say the least. just as I was about to open the door, I heard the giggle of an all too familiar voice. "Going somewhere sweetheart" I clenched my teeth before turning towards the blondie slumped against the doorway opposite my room. "Why yes, I am" I answered. "Without me?" she scrunched her face up. Oh, how I hated her but my father insisted on having her around because he knew she meant nothing to me but she could 'fill my desires' as he would tell me. Firstly, I was saving myself for someone I wanted and secondly, I'd rather die never knowing the pleasure of a woman than ever sleeping with her. I wiped my brow in frustration and looked straight into her eyes, "yes without you" She pouted her lips and crossed her arms over. "You know you should listen to your father" she continued looking at her nails "mates are nothing and I can fulfil your pleasures..." I looked back at the door fumbling for the key. I rolled my eyes at her remarks before replying "thanks for the offer but no" and I quickly shut the door behind me. I slumped against the other side of the door and looked up. Why can't everything just be simple? As I slid down the side of the door, I closed my eyes and started to picture the girl at the party but I still had no idea what her name was or her pack. I need to track her down without my father finding out. After drowning in my sorrows for about half an hour I finally dragged myself up from the floor and made my way the room and stripped ready for a shower. I stepped into the steaming water and let the water run over my face. The more I tried to forget her, the more I wanted her. I began to get frustrated with myself. Why would I push her away? Why didn't I just run away then with her then? Why didn't I just stand my ground? With that, my fist made contact with the wall and I felt my room ricochet. I swept hands over my faced and let out a deep low growl. At this moment I thought I could get over everything but I could feel everything become more prominent. I quickly turned the water off and grabbed a towel from the rail. While I stepped out, I mind linked one of the only people I could trust in this unfortunate pack. ~Danny, I need you to meet me by the edge of the wood near the lake in 10~ ~You got it Jam~ I slipped on some sweats and a hoodie and slid down from the window ensuring that nobody saw me. I stood waiting for Danny when it hit me. What am I even going to tell him? Can I tell him? What if he tells the pack? I decided that I wasn't going to tell him about finding my mate and the boring excuse would be enough. The moonlight was calming, almost as someone was trying to tell me that everything was going to be okay. I enjoyed the silence and the cool summer breeze that was neither too hot nor too cold. Danny approached with wide eyes. We embrace with a man hug and he pulls back with a questioning look on his face. "So, do you want to tell me why you dragged me out here at midnight" "Well, I got bored and fancied a run" I smirked. "Are you being serious?!?" "What?" "YOU DRAGGED ME OUT OF BED FOR A f*****g RUN?!" Danny exasperated with his anger rising. "Whoa, keep your voice down, I thought you had my back plus I thought you liked running?" Danny's clear expression explained exactly how he felt about this "let's just run before I beat the crap out of you" They transformed into their wolves and set off through the thick bushed areas of the wood and chased one another trying to pounce on one another from behind the trees. After the reached the edge of the territory they paused to check the sighting for rogues and trespassers. Jamie looked out into the distance as if to look for something beyond the wood, however, it was clear his thoughts were somewhere else. Danny caught onto Jamie's actions and kept an eye on him in his peripheral vision. ~This is clear that you didn't bring me out for a run~ ~What the hell are you talking about~ ~Jamie, do you want to tell me something~ ~No~ With that, Danny pounced on Jamie but he wasn't expecting it and Danny had Jamie's neck locked in his jaw. ~Your mind is elsewhere. You never let your guard down~ ~Just get off me~ ~Not until you tell me~ ~...~ ~It's your mate isn't it~ Jamie's heart pounded as he kicked Danny off with his back legs. ~ No, it's not~ Danny stared at Jamie with his eyes wide. ~Fine. I've met my mate~ Danny looked down before making eye contact again ~You know you can't be with her right? If your father finds out he'll kill her~ ~I know, I know. ~ ~What are you going to do? ~ ~I don't know...... But you can't tell anyone~ Jamie's eyes darkened as he looked at Danny. Danny replied with a nod ~You have my word~ I got back onto my feet before looking towards the packhouse. Danny followed close behind before they sprinted back, letting the branches brush against their fur. We grabbed our clothes from the side of the river and crept through the doors of the packhouse.
