The Royal Dance
Chapter 1~
Elsie's point of view:
The day of the royal dance came and I was beyond excited.

"COME INNNN" I squealed before in waltz Josh holding his arms out wide before scooping me up to dance with him.
"Are you ready to meet your prince charming?" he teased.
"There's no way I'm meeting him at a scheduled dance! My prince is going to find me through love" I demanded. I was quite stubborn in that sense that I believed us women were independent and we didn't need any man to survive.
"But you know, first impressions are a thing, right?" he said pointing to my dress.
I pulled away from him before scowling at him. "and what's wrong with my dress..."
"Nothing! it's just... I've seen you wear better and that dress doesn't exactly flatter your figure"
I glanced back in the mirror. I could see where he was coming from. Even though I wasn't the prettiest of girls, I did have a beautiful figure. I was wearing a black skater dress that hid everything, but it was comfy.
Josh walked over to my wardrobe and slid open the door. He glanced momentarily before whipping out a crimson mermaid style dress that I was saving for a special occasion.
"It's only a dance," I remarked rolling my eyes.
"Only the best dance all year!! How much more special can you get than that!"
I paused for a minute. I guess I could just buy another dress if another occasion rose.
"Okay you win, but if I'm overdressed, I'm blaming it on you" I scolded pointing a finger at him.
"Deal, but you owe me if you're the best looking there" he sneered at me.
"Whatever" I rolled my eyes and trudged into the wardrobe to change.
As I emerged, I couldn't lie I felt like a million dollars.
"You look fab!" Josh smirked, "I should be a fashion designer"
TAP TAP TAP
"Who's that?" exclaimed Josh, with a chip on his shoulder to say the least.
In came Damien, I had to admit he looked pretty good in his tux. His hair was styled and everything about him just looked perfect.
I have to admit it felt good having guys for protection. I don't need a man to get me through the day however it definitely felt good knowing someone has your back. I classed ourselves as the dream team and we could read each other like a book. I knew if I wanted anything out of this life, it was to be surrounded by people who would push you up and catch you if you were to fall.
"You look stunning" he gasped after taking a full eyeshot of me, "whoever is your mate, they better start fighting the boys off now"
I blushed, "thank you, but why are you here?" I asked slightly puzzled.
"I'm the Beta's son duh" he looked at me like I was dumb.
"I know that stupid but it doesn't answer my question does it" I shot back at him.
"...meaning I get to accompany you at the dance" he explained but I could definitely sense the annoyance in his voice, but I have to admit, I was rather delighted myself. I let out a huge sigh, "fine, whatever, I guess I'll let you tag along" I smirked and made my way out the door.
I made my way down the marble stair case, it was definitely my favourite feature of the house.
"How do I look?" I asked trying to sound as innocent as possible.
"Honey, you look gorgeous!" my mother gasped, covering her mouth with her delicate fingers.
"Nearly as beautiful as your mother," my father said staring at my mother. She was his Luna and expected nothing less than my father to love her more than anything else.
"That's good enough for me then" I tilted my head up and I met Damien on the stairs.
"Shall we" he stated, offering me his arm.
"We shall" I smiled back at him linking mine through his.
I was so lucky to have a friend like him and all I could wish was my mate was as perfect as him. I was going to be jealous of anyone who's got him as a mate.
We made our way to the car laughing and giggling. we decided to ride in his car, then we could have the music as loud as we wanted without the elders moaning. We jumped in and buckled up. The car ride was two hours long but it only felt like a moment with him. Once we arrived, we parked up.
"Promise me one thing tonight" I stared him deep in the eyes making sure he knew I was being serious.
"Yeah, of course, El, what's up"
"Don't leave me alone"
"Promise" he stared back at me offering his pinkie, " I pinkie promise"
We stepped out of the car and I felt a swift of nausea wash over me.
"I don't feel too good" I stammered clenching my head, " you go in and I'll catch you up in a minute"
Josh looked at me concerned "I promised you we'd do this together so there's no way on this earth that I'm going to leave your side. Besides, it's probably just the nerves. This is a pretty big party"
I laughed. He always knew what to say and do to put a smile on my face.
I clenched his arm, took a deep breath and said: "let's do this".
We wandered through the doors; the palace was stunning. Crystal chandeliers sparkled, fountains and statues created a sense of fortune while the laughter and chat of the packs around us created a sense of community. as we walked further my nausea died down but I could still feel that something wasn't quite right in the air. I spotted my father and mother chatting to some of our neighbouring pack alphas and Luna's. They all looked perfectly matched by the moon goddess, I just hope she picked a good one for me.
We wandered through the crowd to find a group of soon-to-be alphas. They looked casual young royalty as they were and each of them radiated the strength on the alphas they will become. I loved how they were so proud of their packs and I could tell some had already found their soon-to-be Luna. I smiled and made my way to the circle
"Hi my names Elsie, and this is Damien. I'm one of the offspring of Alpha Archie and Luna Hazel and he's the son's Beta" I tried to sound confident but I could hear the wobble in my voice, "its lovely to finally meet you all"
A girl around my age spun round "Penny, it’s great to meet you too"
I finally had a good feeling about this party.
In came a young girl from the spiral staircase. I didn't pay much attention as I was focussed on the boy's argument about whose pack was strongest.
"Elsie?!"
I heard a gasp come from behind. I spun round to meet my best friend from high school. Seen as we were on summer break; it had been ages since I last saw her.
"Hollie!" I exclaimed wrapping my arms around her, "what are you doing here?"
"Well... it turns out I found my mate" she began with a smile forming in her cheeks. With that, a tall blondie came and joined us, "Penny I want you to meet Benjamin, soon to be Alpha of the Blue Moon pack"
"Nice to meet you, Benjamin" I greeted.
"Same to you Penny" he nodded.
"So, have you found your mate yet?"
I scrunched up my face before replying, "nah but to be honest I'm not too worried, he's out there somewhere"
She smiled again, "don't worry we have plenty of time to find him. Besides, anyone would want you, you're gorgeous"
Around midnight everyone was called to the dining hall where the Ashes wanted to say a few words to thank everyone for coming before starting dinner. As we walked in my heart clenched.
"mate" my wolf whispered "he's here"
I sensed her but she didn't sound excited if anything she had backed away but I could still hear her whispers. In came Eastern and Georgette each as proud as their own.
"Thank you for attending our ball" Georgette exclaimed, "each ball is even more fabulous than the last and it's all because of you....". Her voice faded while another sense took over. What is that smell, it smells like rain in the forest, crimson dying leaves while flaking in the fall. It was all I could think about and I didn't know how long I could stand this. I needed to know who he was. My chest was tightening by the second and I just knew if I didn't get out of there quick, I was going to be in trouble.
Our table was quite close to the back of the room near the door. If I was quiet enough, I could escape without anyone noticing. I took my chance while everyone was cheering for the Alpha and Luna, I crept out, silently closing the door behind me. I ventured onto the terrace. The night sky was beautifully filled with glistening lights that travelled far. The air was thin but my chest had loosened. I couldn't stop thinking about the fact my mate was in that room and I still had no idea who he was. I grabbed hold of the balcony rail and stared up into the starry night sky. I loved the moon and the stars and the sky. I always felt a sense of comfort out in the night air.
Suddenly, l felt a pair of piercing eyes burning through my skin. I already knew it was josh, I had left him in the room, therefore, making him break his promise which to him was the same as breaking a mirror.
"Damien, I'm sorry..." I apologised turning around, "I just coo-" I was cut off mid-sentence realising that this wasn't Josh.
"Damien?" he questioned before taking a step closer. he was gorgeous. Full-on sexy gorgeous. My heart skips a beat, well, probably several. right then I heard my wolf come out of her hiding place and I could feel her purring at his voice. WAIT THIS IS MY MATE! I started breathing heavily.
"Yeah- um Damien is my- um friend" I stutter.
his eyes narrowed but his expression remained emotionless. WHY IS HE SO CALM? HOW CAN HE NOT FEEL THE SPARKS BETWEEN US RIGHT NOW?
"A friend you say?"
"y-yes" I try to sound reasonable but I can tell I'm failing miserably. His eyes flicker black then back to blue.
He slammed me against the fence and I could feel him leaning my body over the edge. I trembled with fear trying to hang on for dear life.
"Let's just get this straight, we are nothing. Stay out of my life and don't get in my way OR I WILL KILL YOU" his eyes turned entirely black "do I make myself clear?"
I nodded before he dropped me to the ground.
"Good" he sauntered away while I clenched my chest. It felt tight again and I just wanted to go home.
I turned to face the open territory in front of me grasping onto the balustrade. What on earth did I do to deserve this!?! My heart tore. I could feel the tears rolling but my mind was elsewhere.
A familiar voice from earlier sang my name "ELSIIIEEE"
I quickly wiped the tears on the back of my hand, blinking the flowing tears away.
"WHAT THE FRICK HAS HAPPENED?"
"Nothing, nothing" I stuttered, "erm, it's just that time of the month you know?! I'm just so emotional"
Hollie scowled before buying my excuse, "okay but if I find out your lying, you'll be in big trouble"
I nodded, "whatever you say boss, so what's up"
"THEY'RE SERVING ICE-CREAM!"
"WHY DIDN'T YOU SAY SOMETHING!" I grabbed her hand and rushed back into the dining hall. If anything would take my mind of this mess it was going to be food!
