Chapter 3~ Elsie’s point of view: The night seemed to drag and I couldn’t shake him off. I thought that my first encounter would be so much more romantic and magical, but it wasn’t, it was turning out to be the worst. Even though I was surrounded by the people I loved, I felt empty and weak like something inside of me had snapped. It wasn’t long before Damien caught on that something was wrong. He gestured a hand and I grabbed it before he pulled me onto the dancefloor for a slow dance. We danced slowly and my mind began to wander; who was he? What did he want? Why would he push me away? *uh-hum*, I heard a subtle throat clearance that pulled me away from my thoughts. I looked over and me with Damien’s gaze. “So, are you going to tell me what’s wrong or…?” My eyes stayed wide while I formed a sentence, “erm yeah everything’s fine, why wouldn’t it be?”. I could feel my eyes darting. “You know, you are the most horrendous liar I have ever been in encounter with” I scoffed, “What makes you think I’m lying? I’m clearly fine”. I could hear the frustration in my own voice and I knew it was distasteful but why can’t he just drop it? He gave me a look of disgust before proceeding, “okay maybe if you had dropped the attitude, I would haven’t have guessed but now it’s pretty obvious” I pulled away turning towards our group that were sat grazing at the table. He tried to pull me back but I shook him off. “Elsie… don’t be like this” “No I hate it when you do that, you make me look like the bad person” “Come back, look we don’t have to talk about it if- “ I swung back to him pointing my finger, “what makes you think you can tell me what to do? Honestly, I love you but my god you drive me up the walls”. I turned back and walked towards josh. “we’re leaving... now!” “Err…”, he looked past me at Damien. I saw him shrug out the corner of my eye and I was so done with him. Josh looked back at me before nodding his head. I didn’t even say goodbye, I was flustered and my mind was so out of it that I just wanted to leave. We made our way out to the parking lot to where the car was parked. I pulled the handle and dropped myself into the passenger seat. I crossed my arms and stared outside the side window. I heard Josh sigh as he slammed the door. “You know you don’t make this any easier for me” he pointed out while starting up the engine. I continued to stare, not reacting to his sly remark. “Elsie, you do this to yourself-“ “Do what exactly?”, I snapped rolling my eyes in the process. “You let your anger get the best of you and it doesn’t help”, he said calmly “then I have to deal with the consequences”. I went back to staring out the window and he began to pull off out of the parking lot. It was dark and peaceful. There were not many cars around the back streets and a few street lights were flickering. I enjoyed the night better than the day. There were a lot less people around to annoy you. I was lost in the daydream of the handsome guy from the party, when out of the corner of my eye I caught sight of headlights in the side mirror. A car that appeared from a small side road had emerged behind us. The car was pitch black with gold elements; it looked expensive like a car out of a film. As we turned right at the corner, the car also turned right. Not long after we took a left at the next crossroad and the car did too. “Err Josh is that car behind us following us”, I asked wearily. Josh peered into his inside mirror squinting his eyes, “I don’t think so, I mean why would they be following us? They have no reason to be following us”. He went back to following the road. I knew this would be my cue to tell him what happened at the party, but I decided against it. I don’t want him part of my drama, and besides, it could just be someone getting to the freeway just like us. After a few more turns of following us we finally joined the freeway. The car followed closely on the freeway and I was beginning to panic! It was now a matter of time before Josh started asking questions. I looked over to see the car was about to overtake us on the right and I dipped my head below window height. “It stresses me out when people undertake”, Josh agitatedly expressed, “like how they expect me to see them when it's dark like this?”. The car rolled up to the side of us and kept at the same speed. Josh looked over before gesturing to the driver of the car to explain what was wrong. The driver looked over at Josh before rolling his window down. He followed and shouted to the man “what do you want?!”. The man’s expression was stern and remained fixed on him before he pointed to the side of the road. Josh shook his head before putting his foot down on the gas, “GET AWAY FROM US!”. Panic was sewn into his voice, but before he acted the man rammed the car into my side door, as I looked over the man’s eyes began to glow red. His eyes travelled from Josh to mine. I froze and something inside me sparked, my wolf was forming. It was a strong sharp sensation in my chest that I couldn’t shake. The pain grew and I shouted at Josh to stop the car. “ARE YOU INSANE?!”, he shrieked, “there is no way on this goddamn planet that I am ever going to stop this car”. “I beg you-”, we took another pound to the side door which jolted forwards and caught my chest pounding against the dash. I could feel my eyes burning my cheeks from the fear that was growing inside of me. I clutched my chest as the final blow sent us spinning across the lanes. The car screeched as we collided with a tree on the side of the far lane. My eyes were heavy, and I felt for the button to release my belt, I felt a wet, sticky substance ooze from my side. I cringed as I pushed the button and forced the side door to swing open. As I went to take a step, I felt my leg give way and I fell to the floor. Blood spilled my mouth as I coughed. I heard a door slam close by and by eyes scoured as I tried to focus on the sound of footsteps. The man emerged from behind the car and his eyes were still going. I pushed myself onto all fours before trying to stand, but before I could, I was shoved to the ground. I kept my face down but he pulled on my hair to where I was facing him. He took out his phone from his pocket and faced the camera at me. The camera flash blinded me as whimpered as he tightened his grip. I could feel my body tremble under him and the camera clicked and he shoved me hard causing me to become disorientated. I rested my head against the grass before everything turned black...
