PROLOGUE
What do you do when you're a human in a wolf pack and your best friend is the next alpha?
You join, that's something. Or you join as often as a person can. Kaia and Aldric have been friends since birth. Their mothers were best friends in college and passed the friendship on to their children.
When a tragic accident claims her parents, but somehow leaves Kaia alive and no family member takes on the burden of a teenager without much inheritance. The one person closest to her mother appears to claim her.
Kaia and Aldric have been untreachable ever since. She has spent the last two years learning packing paths and packing values, but is looking to go to college and experience human life outside of the pack she knows and loves. She is a human being and knows that she will not be a wolf partner. She is ready to leave the pack and live in the human world. She aspires to take over the gym that her mother opened with Aldric's mother. It is a legacy that keeps the memory of their parents alive.
She has planned everything, much to the dismay of her best friend. All her college forms are signed, accommodation and food are provided, and her business course is well on track to graduate in three years. She only has to survive one more year in high school before all this can happen. Fortunately, werewolves think that the final year is the time to focus on the future, so there are many courses that help them succeed faster.
Her life is planned, Aldric will start training to take over his pack. This is the last hurray before her life goes its predestined way. She knows that they will always be close to each other, like their mothers. She can't spend a day without talking to him. That's been the case as long as she can remember. She feels incomplete without the contact, so it is out of the question to lose the contact. She also knows that they are not friends, although many people hoped that their close relationship could be nothing else. At eighteen, their relationship is that of siblings with twin inclinations. Also something that no one can explain. She can't link thoughts or shift, and yet she moves like a wolf, thinks like a wolf, has the instincts of a wolf.
Many believe that they will get their "human adventure" out of their system and then come home to the pack forever.
Until Kaia's life decides to throw her another curve ball and force her to make decisions she never planned.
