The two of them woke up starving. Levi realised he had missed going to college yet again, he had not even informed anyone about his impromptu drinking plan the previous night.
Levi fished his bag only to find his phone soaked in water, that is exactly when he knew Nelsee was important to him.
Never ever had Levi prioritised anything over his phone. His phone was everything to him, it had everything he needed on the go in his phone. It was only his phone that gave him company, but now he had met this person. He looked at Nelsee and smiled.
Nelsee and Levi decided to have brunch together. They went to a nearby cafe and ordered something the two instantly agreed upon. “Two Simtry special meals please”. This dish was capable of keeping them from getting hungry until dinner time. “Cost cutting!”, they said and laughed.
The order arrived and they hogged like they had never eaten before.
Nelsee asked, “Hey Levi, I was wondering if you could help me hunt for a job. If you could just get some references from your college professors or from any of your classmates, it would be great.”
“Yes I think I will be able to help you with that, in fact I have applied for an internship at a startup named SavvyTalks, I went to buy beer last night right after winding up that email.
I think I might get through, if I do, I can get you in through referrals.”
“Hmm sounds good to me, let me know how that works out for you. I can take calls or work at the front desk for a start. I have your email to pester you in case I don’t hear back from you!”, they chuckled.
While all this happened, Nelsee and Levi had forgotten about the book that Levi had ‘mortgaged.’ It lay in Nelsee’s drawer with a half used pack of cigarettes.
They both finished brunch and Levi decided to take a leave to go to his place and see what the situation after last night was. Levi had not revealed much about his life to Nelsee yet.
Levi hugged Nelsee and took off. His place was a few minutes from the cafe but he was reluctant to get inside his house. Levi always despised what he called his home, there was always a lingering tension in the house and no one addressed it.
Levi knew something was wrong between his parents, but he did not know what. Occasionally he would hear altercations but they were hushed since they came from the parents room which was upstairs.
Levi’s house was huge and his parents were rich, there was enough money for Levi to live on without a job, but Levi wanted nothing to do with the money they had. He always thought it was blood money, but he was not sure of it.
Levi walked in quietly and went directly into his room, he shut the door behind him and started untying his shoe laces, that is when he saw something strange under this bed.
“What’s this? Looks like a pair of shoes.”
They were office shoes. These for sure did not belong to his dad he thought because his dad always wore shoes of one specific brand. This was another man’s.
He quietly kept the shoes outside his room and did not bother much about the shoes. His attention immediately went to his laptop and phone. His phone was dead and his laptop escaped the moisture and was working. Levi heaved a relieved sigh.
Once he turned it on, an email notification popped up on the button right corner of the screen. Levi jumped up and sat, he could not believe his eyes.
It was SavvyTalks!
Levi read out the email aloud, because then he could be sure of what the email said.
“Hi Levi,
This is to inform you that we at SavvyTalks have received your application and after careful consideration and a strict filtering process our team has shortlisted your profile for an interview at our office on 23rd June - Wednesday at 1pm.
Looking forward to our interaction.
Regards
Steff White
CEO SavvyTalks”
“Yassss! I did it”, I am so happy I landed an interview! I need to let Nelsee know about this!
“f**k! I do not have her email, I have to go back to her place, I’m sure she won’t mind me dropping by suddenly. And I can also tell her about her option to join SavvyTalks.”
Levi was super excited, he quickly freshened up, packed his bag and opened his door to leave. He was shocked at the sight.
There was absolute silence. The man he saw was a stranger in their house, or at least Levi had seen the man for the first time.
This man was kissing his mother on her lips and this was the sight he had dreaded!
It took a moment for the man and his mother to realise that Levi was right there, Levi looked at the man in the eye and then at his mother giving her the most disgusted look he could.
He slammed the door behind him and fled.
On his way, his temper rose and he burst into tears. Not because he was affected by the sight he just encountered, but because a little belief he had built on a true bond broke. He knew something was wrong, but he could have never guessed that his mother was cheating on his father.
Levi was so frustrated that he did not want to know about who the man was or how he got to know his mother, he just wanted to cut off from that family and that house where love and bond were never given importance.
It was evening again and Levi felt guilty standing outside Nelsee’s apartment. He did not want to knock, he knew she would be there for him, but they had such a nice time last night. He did not want to seem like he was stepping the line.
Levi took a deep breath and knocked on the door.
