She didn't need a test to confirm it, but she would take one anyway, after this whole affair mess had been sorted out. She looked up at her mother and there was no doubt that disgust was the only thing this mother felt at the moment.
"You're coming with me to the house, we're going to take a proper test. And you better not be pregnant."
"Why wouldn't you believe me, mother ? I'm the victim here."
"Oh what? You thought that by making up a foolish story to cover up your shameless act, I would take pity on you and change my mind about having you marry the young Dalton? Ooh child, you're just twenty-three years old, you have a lot to learn."
Her heart broke . She couldn't believe what she was hearing. She had always known since she was a child that her parents had only groomed her to be the wife of one of the Dalton boys, to boost their family esteem, but she had never thought that the idea of that marriage would make her mother think so low of her own daughter.
"You're coming with me right now. You are going to look for that fool and make a deal with him. You'll offer him some money and tell him to confess that he lied about the affair you two had going, and he'll admit that he did abuse you. In return, you will make sure he doesn't go to prison."
Tiffany couldn't believe what she was hearing. There was no way a mother could say that to her own child.
Isabella, on the other hand, was in tears and couldn't control herself.
"He abused me MOTHER! He did! And you want me to pay him to admit that he did? Why? Why?"
"You shut up this instance, enough with your nonsense! When my sister, Clarice, left you with me, I thought the heavens smiled upon us by giving us a daughter, but no, no. Hell spat on us! You insolent brat!"
Her insult followed with a slap. It was obvious now that she wasn't her biological mother , and that's why she acted this way. She had only been kind to her to ensure that she would marry off into a wealthy family and make her own family even stronger and prestigious. That is all there is to it.
"Get out! Get out of my house now!"
Tiffany commanded as she dragged the older woman and pushed her outside.
"Get your hands off me, you runt! And for you, you're dead to me. Did you hear me? One way or the other, my daughter will be married to the young Dalton heir, and it doesn't matter if it's you or not. Rot in hell for all I care."
"What are you going to do? Grow another daughter?"
Tiffany asked with a smirk.
"You don't know me at all. I always get what I want. Watch me ! And for you, Issabella, you had better leave this place with that bastard child of yours if you want to live. There is no way I'm allowing a spawn like you to destroy everything I've worked so hard for. As long as I'm concerned, you do not exist. "
The words flew out like pure venom and every syllable caused more damage than the other. When the older woman was finally out of sight, Isabella collapsed to the ground in sobs. Everything she knew was a lie, and she had no one to fight for her in this cruel world. No one to call family, except Tiffany, of course, who was now stroking her hair.
"You know what? Let's take the test and if you are pregnant, we'll figure something out."
Isabella nodded . Thirty minutes later, she let out a hysterical scream in the bathroom as she stared at the test kit in her hand. She was pregnant. She couldn't believe it, in her belly, it was that vile man's child. Tiffany hurried to the bathroom to check if everything was okay, and she froze when she saw the results.
"Poor Issa, don't worry, I'll speak with my gynecologist, we'll figure something out. "
Isabella nodded and quietly retreated to the room. That night, she barely slept. She tossed around in bed, deciding if she should keep the baby or not. A part of her wanted the baby gone because it belonged to that vile man too, and another wanted to keep the baby because the poor child wasn't to blame for anything, and maybe, just maybe, her child might bring her some joy.
She tossed and turned till Tiffany opened the windows and sat by her side.
"Have you made a decision yet? You were tossing and turning all night. I know you were thinking about it. "
"I'm sorry Tiff."
"Oh, it's alright. I understand you perfectly well."
"Well, I have. " And I want to keep the baby. " I know it's going to be hard, and I have to leave this place to find a new life for my baby and me, but, I want to keep the baby."
Tiffany's eyes had moistened at this point. She was about to lose her best friend, but she knew it was the only way.
"Okay, but you have to accept one condition, or else I'll never let you leave."
Isabella nodded. She seems to do a lot of nodding these days. It's like she lacked the energy to speak. Tiffany went on, however.
"Dale has a little sister in the United States, she's in college there. I have already spoken with Dale, and you're living with his sister. He has already found you a job there, and you'll be fine. It's not much, but it's a starting point. I'll visit you whenever I can. "
"But how did you?...."
She was silenced by a hug from Tiffany.
"I know you, Issa, you would never give up a child or let anything bad happen to it. You protected me once. Now let me protect you. I know you had no intentions of leaving the country, but I think the United States is a good place for you. "
"Why do I get the feeling you have already arranged everything for my departure?"
"Because I have, come on, let's have breakfast, and I'll take you to the airport. Dale will be waiting for us there . "
"Thank you, Tiff, I owe you a lot. Will Dale's sister be alright with the arrangement though?"
"Gabriella? Oh please, she can't wait to have you there. She complains of being lonely all the time."
"Oh, that's good. She knows I'll have a baby?"
"Yes Issa, she knows, she's fine with it and can't wait to meet you. You really have nothing to worry about. Right now, you need to be far away from this crazy place. You need a fresh start. Lord knows I would have healed better if I had gone somewhere far from here. "
"I'm sorry Tiffany."
"Oh don't worry about me, look at me. I've got Dale now, he'll protect me."
As the words left her lips, a terrible chill ran up her spine and she shuddered a little bit before offering a light smile. The pair then focused on their breakfast before preparing for their journey.
Dale met them at the airport as promised and they set off. When they finally arrived, Tiffany helped Issabella settle in and refused to leave. Dale and his sister practically had to drag her out.
"Don't worry Tiffany, I'll be fine here."
"I know you will. Call me every day. Ooh! That reminds me, here you go."
Tiffany snatched her friend's old phone and handed her a new one.
"New life, remember? I already saved my number there. I'm only a call away."
The two friends hugged each other and gave sad goodbyes for an annoying amount of time before finally letting each other go. Dale and Tiffany set out to head back to England and Issabella was left to her new fate.
"Are you okay Isabella?"
Gabriella questioned. She was okay actually, she felt safe and motivated to make the best out of this new opportunity for herself and her baby. She offered a polite smile.
"Yes, I'm okay. More than okay."
And to her baby, she whispered while rubbing her belly.
"This is it baby, this is our life now."
