Rose remained snuggled in her bed the next morning when the sun stirred her awake from her slumber. She stared out the window in her bedroom as clouds started to form rain clouds. Today she was going to get her stuff from her parents. She could finally have some more clothes to wear rather than the one outfit, underwear and PJs. She had put them in the washing machine and dryer last night so they were nice and clean, but she still felt dirty from wearing them again. She could already hear Sullivan as he moved through the house earlier, which also added to the things to wake up to.
When she finally decided to get out of bed, she noticed Sullivan had come to her door.
"You up yet?"
Rose chuckled "Yeah, I'm up."
"Good, because I'm not sure what you want for breakfast this morning."
She shrugged her shoulders as she followed him out to the kitchen. "Probably gonna have cereal."
As she rummaged between the cereal boxes, Sullivan spoke up "I have my border patrol night shift in two days."
Now that made Rose freeze, the thought of her being alone in the house at night frightened her. She had never been alone in the house without one of her parents being home, her parents would yell at her if she even brought it up. At that thought, she started to shake. It was the first time since she was on that auction stage that she felt scared.
Sullivan obviously noticed "Hey... are you okay?"
Rose straightened her back as she tried to control her breathing. "I've... never been alone before, I was never left alone with my folks and I wasn't allowed outside the house alone so.."
"Oh.."
"Yeah.."
She was then face to face with Sullivan as he crouched down to her height, his eyes glowing yellow as Kylo pushed forward.
"This house is safe. You ever need us, call us, phone will be here today." His deep, booming voice sounded slightly panicked.
Rose nodded slowly as his eyes started to fade back to dark brown, "Sorry, Kylo had to say something, he can't keep his mouth shut sometimes."
She grabbed the milo cereal box as she reached for a bowl, "It's okay, that actually makes me a lot calmer now. Thank you."
Sully shook his head with a lil huff, "I don't know how, but okay." He shrugged as he too grabbed his nutri-grain box and grabbed a bowl.
Rose grabbed the milk from the fridge, a spoon from the kitchen drawer and headed towards the dining table. "I guess I didn't think of that." She took a seat at the table and poured in her cereal, then the milk, then handed it to Sullivan.
"Yeah, your stuff will probably be here by noon, so you can put things away in the afternoon."
"Sounds good."
"So, you eat your lunch and dinner in the lounge room but eat your breakfast here? How so?"
"Well, I'm clumsey. And I'd rather not risk spilling the milk."
Sullivan chuckled to himself before they started to eat in a comfortable silence. Rose saw herself stealing short glances at Sullivan for some unknown reason. He at least had to be in his twentys, he was so good looking. Sure, a unique, good-looking man by people's standards.
"Do you work out?" She suddenly blurted out.
He slightly coughed on his cereal as that question echoed through his ears. "Where did that come from?"
"Your arms," She gestured towards him.
His arms were in full view of her today because he was wearing a shirt. Sure, she knew that he had broad shoulders, but with those arms he had to lift. They were so muscular that they kinda strained against his shirt. He could probably pick her up with no trouble. As she took in his facial expression, his ears peaked through his hair, turning slightly pink.
"Err, I guess." He grumbled before he fiddled with his cereal. "We have training every week to keep up our fitness, as we do border patrols." He took a spoonful of his nultri-grain. "So we need to be in shape."
"What do you do on border patrol?"
"Sometimes, if a human or some other supernatural being wanders into our territory, we can help them if they are lost, inspect them if they come for visits and guide them to the packhouse."
"What about the creatures that live in your forests?"
"We also make sure that they behave themselves."
"I heard that wolves are quite territorial. Is that true?"
"Very. You see, if we expect visitors, we'll be quite welcoming. But if there's an uninvited guest, well, if they don't speak quickly they might leave with a few bite marks." He chuckled. "Seen that happen quite a few times now."
"Ah, I see."
"Well, actually, it all depends on the wolf that confronts them. If they are over protective of the territory, they might go nuts. A more calmer wolf will approach calmly rather than aggressively."
"Any reason why a wolf would go nuts?"
"They might have a family that they want to protect within the pack, the thought of an intruder gets in a lot of wolves' minds these days."
"Ahh, I understand."
"Yep"
And just like that, the conversation ended. Rose didn't push anymore. They ate again in comfortable silence before Rose dropped her spoon in the bowl loudly to signal she was done. She then stood up to take her bowl and the milk back to the kitchen. She turned on the sink and started to wash her bowl and spoon. At some point, Sullivan joined her. He insisted on washing his own, but because her hands were already wet, she washed them anyway. She placed them on a drying rack to dry before she made her way to the living room and sat on the lounge.
As she turned on the TV, her bladder started to ache. She didn't go to the bathroom last night, so it was obvious that she needed to go. She excused herself to the bathroom. She went down the hallway past their bedrooms and opened the bathroom door. The first thing she was met with was the blinding light as the bathroom was tiled to white and the sun was streaming through the windows. The bathroom sported a fancy vanity, a toilet (obviously), and a shower and bathtub combined into one. It was vastly decorated with towel racks and handles to help with standing up out of the bathtub. It was clearly designed for older people to live in.
After she relieved herself, she decided to have a shower. She stripped herself of her PJs and placed them in the washing basket to be washed later. As she looked up at the mirror, she saw her reflection; her short curly red hair definitely needed washing, but when she looked further down she felt slightly disappointed in herself. She considered herself chubby, with thick thighs and a small belly that poked out slightly, with her breasts being considered average but slightly bigger because of her size. It wasn't her fault, her mum is a big woman and so was her dad, so that's probably where she got her chubby side from. It wasn't her fault, if her parents let her outside the house she could have been a lot skinner now.
She sighed deeply before she turned towards the shower. As she made her way towards it, she noticed that it already had the shampoo, conditioner, soaps and bodywashes in there, she doesn't remember putting them in there herself so she assumed Sullivan did. She turned it on, got it to the right temperature, then hopped in. Rose only felt like she was in there for about ten minutes before she exited the shower, but it had been thirty minutes. She toweled herself dry, wrapped the towel around herself before she exited the bathroom and made her way down the hallway to her bedroom. She passed by Sullivan's room which was slightly ajar and she could swear she spotted him in there, but she didn't bother to look as the only destination was her bedroom, so her legs carried her there.
She closed her door as she entered and then dropped her towel to the floor. She felt comfortable enough that Sullivan would respect her privacy, that she felt confident to be completely naked in her own room. She opened her basically empty drawer and pulled out the spare matching pair of bra and underwear before she struggled to put them on since she was still damp from the shower. She then wiggled on the leggings and shirt, clipped on her collar before she returned to the bathroom to hang up her towel to dry. She turned on the fan to dry the bathroom quicker than leaving it.
Rose then rummaged through one of the vanity's drawers to find the hair brush she bought while shopping with Sullivan. She pulled it out before she started to brush her red hair, staring blankly at the mirror as she did so. She was so zoned out that she didn't hear the bathroom door open beside her, that she only noticed Sullivan standing there when he cleared his throat.
"You seem to be in space right now."
"Yeah.. I guess so.."
"Everything alright?" He seemed concerned.
"Just thinking."
"Obviously."
"Haha, very funny." Rose joked.
"Okay, you got me." He chuckled. "What are you thinking about?"
"My life up to this point."
"You are pretty calm for a human whose life just got thrown upside down." He snorted softly "Just taken from her parents to be thrown into a world you don't know."
She shook her head gently, "That's the thing with me." She looked at him as he c****d up an eyebrow. "I am not calm. I tried to be brave at the auction but I was terrified."
"I know you were, I could basically smell the fear from you."
"When I woke up at that house alone, I was basically shitting myself. I tried to hide it from the lady who helped me get ready for the auction, Mary. I tried to stay by her side the whole time, anytime she left my side I was scared for my life. Xander and Ryan just screamed men that needed to be scared of, but, Xander tried to be chill with me, I guess."
"And now?"
"It's.. weird, but I think I'll get used to it."
"If you ever feel uncomfortable, tell me, I'll see how I can help."
"Do... you have a night light?" She asked, slightly embarrassed.
"Actually I do, but I don't use it. Why, do you need one?"
"If that's okay, I can't fall asleep in the dark very well, it just.. feels weird, ya know?" She kept brushing her hair, getting all the knots out.
He nodded, "Yeah, I get that, I had that too for a while."
"Huh, really?" She smiled at him softly "I thought werewolves could see in the dark."
"Yeah, we can." He chuckled softly "But it still felt weird to me as a kid to be in the dark. My parents got me a night light and I've had it ever since."
"Are you sure you can part with it?" She asked.
He nodded, "Sure I can."
Rose had finally brushed through the final strand of hair which had a knot left, she then placed the brush in the drawer before closing it.
"I'm gonna have a shower now. Feel free to make yourself lunch," Sullivan said.
"Of course!" She said before she brushed past him to make her way towards the kitchen. She heard the bathroom door close behind her as she reached the kitchen.
She wasn't that hungry, maybe something small. When she spotted the fruit bowl, she completely forgot that it was filled to the brim with all types of fruit. She then smelt the strong smell of the mango, mango it was. She grabs two of them, one for her and one for Sullivan for when he's out of the shower. She cuts hers in half before she does the fancy dice technique that her mother taught her. She then does the same for Sullivan's mango, before she placed his on a plate wrapped in clingwrap and placed it in the fridge to keep its freshness. She then placed her own on a plate and went to the living room to eat.
Rose sat down on the lounge and turns on the TV, flicks through a few channels before she landed on the news and started to leave it there, then she started eating her mango. The sound of the shower was echoing through the house before it abruptly stopped. Shuffling was heard before the bathroom door opened, his footsteps echoed throughout the house, the door to his bedroom opened. Rose couldn't see him due to the wall that hides the hallway, but she could hear him.
"Do I smell mango?" Sullivan calls out.
"Yes! I put yours in the fridge for you!" Rose responds.
"Sounds good" he said before the door to his bedroom was closed.
