CHAPTER1
Christabel’s POV
In The Beginning
“Do the dishes and get your ass in here!” I heard someone shout at me. The voice was very loud. It didn’t waver at all. I knew who it was already. It had to be the harsh butler who had built his nest in the Alpha’s mansion. I counted him as someone on the same level as me. After all, both of us ate the crumbs on the Alpha’s table and his leftovers.
But that was never the case. Even in a bunch of weak people, some particular weak people would oppress other weak people. In a bunch of senseless people, a senseless person had to lead. The butler was just like that.
He was a fat man, more like a big or someone bloated in water. I stole laughs when I saw his big backside, ten times the amount of that of a woman blessed with a big backside. He must eat special leftovers since he was fatter than anyone in the mansion.
“I am calling you, Christabel. Have you gone nuts?” I heard him shout behind me. I stopped washing the dishes and I bowed to ask for forgiveness.
“I couldn’t hear your voice when you called…” I lied. The butler was not having it as usual.
“You ears must have gone bad. That is what happens to people like you. Once noble, now a servant. That’s the harsh irony of life. How far have you familiarized yourself with this world?” he asked shortly.
“I am doing well, mister,” I replied calmly.
“You don’t know how good it feels to order a former lady of the mansion around. You were the Alpha’s concubine but all of that has changed. Now, I can tell you to lay down on a flat table while I flog your little buttocks. Thinking that it used to be the Alpha’s personal property makes me laugh…” the butler said. He was laughing hysterically. He could have rolled on the ground here.
I clenched my fists but I knew I would never have the courage to hit the butler. I was breathing heavily.
“Why were you calling me?” I asked him bitterly. I was trying to control my anxiety.
“Just to mock you, darling…” he flung irrationally. “You are such a barren, beautiful thing. Emphasis on the BARREN, baby…”
I could feel tears drop out of my eyelids. I could not take it inside any longer. My hands were shaking already. This was emotional torture.
“Then I will get back to work…” I told him simply. I bent to pick up a plate and then he slapped my buttocks. I raised my hand to slap him but I ended up leaving it in the air. I knew the implications if I actually to slap him.
“Little Alpha’s toy…” he said shortly. “Barren and the Alpha abandons her. She used to have a hard ass, I guess. It was so bony when I slapped it here.”
I stood up, grabbed a plate and broke it on his head. I could not take it any longer. He fell down and started to cry in a loud voice. I knew other people would be here soon. Then I saw something I wasn’t expecting.
Blood.
-------------
My name is Christabel and my backstory is one with twists and turns. I grew up in a slum since I was a low-birth. I was an Omega and that was enough reason. Living while I was young was very tough but you know, I survived. My parents died miserably. My mom died while hustling for food with other in our slum. One nobleman had came to share food for us and my mother struggled to get in line. She was pushed and then she fell. The other people were desperate and they ended up trampling upon her. My mother’s screams and cries were drowned by the loud cries of other people who wanted free food. Her life ended there. I could still remember my father bringing in her bloody-battered body. He had gone to drink that morning with the money my mother made.
And when my mother died, I was only six years old. My father sold off the little place we slept in the slum and spent the money drinking. He died that same night after consuming alcohol. He drank with all the money he had, took some on debts, and stole more alcohol to drink in secrecy. There, he lost his life.
For someone like me, I had only one goal and that was to survive. I never minded what I had to do. As long as I could live, I was good to go. I became a waitress in a small restaurant and I lived with the old woman who owned this restaurant. She had a house so I didn’t need to sleep in the slum.
Then she died when I was seventeen. I tried to continue the business since she had no children but it didn’t last at all. I was taken advantage of by the men who came over. They will eat and drink without paying and even bully me. I escaped being r***d and this finally led me to what I thought would be my last bus-stop.
The Alpha’s mansion.
It was an experience I would never forget in my life. I was walking around aimlessly and somehow, I landed in a garden. It was very beautiful and the smell of flowers got me curious to find out more.
Then I saw a woman looking at me coldly. She couldn’t be older than me with more than three years.
“Hey!” she called. “This garden is not a public one. How dare you enter a place like this?!”
I bowed when I saw that she was someone from a prominent family. Her dress sold her out. After I had bowed, I turned back to leave but two heavily-built men were blocking the path. My heart literally flown from Earth to Jupiter in that split second.
I ran back to the woman and bowed at her feet. I could not escape from this hefty men if they tried to hold me down.
“Please save me!” I cried. “Please tell these men not to hurt me. I will do whatever you wish. Please, my lady.”
She started to laugh. It was making me more scared.
“I have no plans to hurt you, young lady…” she replied. “I am also a lady like you. Those men are my bodyguards and they will only do as I say.”
“Thank you, my lady. I wish to leave now…” I said slowly.
“What is your name and where do you stay?” she asked me carefully.
“Christabel and I am homeless…” I replied shyly.
“You look so dirty,” she told me with distaste written all over her face. “When did you bath last?”
“I still bathed this morning. Actually, some men tried to… and I ended up getting so dirty when I escaped from them…” I told her shortly. I was still scared. All I wanted was for her to tell me to pass safely.
“What did the men try to do?” she asked me carefully. I didn’t reply and she ended up figuring by herself. “Don’t bother anymore. I think I understand.”
“Then may I leave?” I asked her finally. “I know I was never supposed to enter this garden from the beginning and I will make sure I don’t try it in the future.”
“You are homeless, girl!” she exclaimed. “How about you become my personal maid? I will provide shelter and food.”
