Stone Creek was beautiful and reminded me a smaller Blood Moon. There was a charming little town that we drove through, along with schools, a movie theater, a hospital. All buildings were modern and looked that a lot of care had gone into their design.
“Isn’t that Alpha Axels’ office?” Damien asked to Ian as we drove past another sleek building.
“I think you’re right.” Ian replied looking at the building and then at the GPS. “But that’s not where he’s having us meet him.”
We drive for another few minutes until we pull down a wooden drive and arrive at a gorgeous looking two-story home.
“We’re meeting him at his home?” Ian asks a little bewildered
“Guess we’re about to find out.”
We all get out and walk up to the wooden door, but before we can knock the door opens. At first, we don’t see anyone there until a little voice speaks up and we all look down at the cutest little girl, maybe 5 or 6 years old with blonde curly hair.
“Hi!” she said waving, “Are you from Blood Moon?”
“Hello, yes we are. Is your dad here?” Damien asks
“Yup, he’s in his office. We’ve been waiting for you. Follow me.” She says before turning and heading off down the hallway
We all quickly let ourselves inside and remove our shoes before following the curly blonde little girl. We are cut off by two boys who run in front of us chasing each other arguing over who took what toy. It was quick, but they looked to be twins.
“Kameron, Kyle what did I say about sharing!” a women yells coming around the corner.
She had another young pup on her hip, another little boy that she was bouncing up and down and it was clear that she was highly pregnant with another.
“Please excuse our kids, I promise their manners are in there somewhere” she says warm heartedly with a smile, this woman was absolutely stunning with this glow about her that just radiated warmth.
“Please make yourselves at home, and I apologize for the mess. It’s hard keeping up with four young ones! Oh gosh, where are my manners! I’m Luna Calanthe, you must be the Alpha’s from Blood Moon?”
“I am Alpha Damien, and this is my Beta Ian. Alpha Aiden had to stay to attend to pack business I’m afraid, but this is our mate and Luna, Camille.”
She shook all of our hands, “It’s a pleasure to meet you all! Let me take you to Axel’s office so that you can talk while I finish preparing lunch.”
We follow her down another hallway before she knocks and opens the door gesturing for us to go on inside.
“Come in” a gruff voice says.
Up until now everything had felt so warm and inviting, but this office just seemed cold. Damien redid our introductions, and we were instructed to sit. Calanthe walked over to him and kissed him on the cheek “Be nice” she instructed before she turned and left the office. I didn’t miss the way his harsh eyes turned soft when he looked up at her, there was so much love there, but when they turned back to us, they were void of any emotion.
“First off, thank you for meeting me at my home. I don’t like to leave when Calanthe is so close to delivering so I prefer to work here. Although for that same reason I usually don’t take meetings at all, so can we now get to the point of what is so urgent that I allowed you all into my home today?”
Geesh, I’d much rather go talk to his wife. She seemed so sweet and easy to talk too.
“We are here to speak with you about a possible alliance between our packs.” Damien said getting exactly to the point.
“Most surrounding packs all deal with each other in their own way but there has always been accord between us all, I see no need to disrupt that and bring unwanted hostility. Whatever reasons you have for dispute are yours and yours alone to deal with. In addition, your pack is large and well-off enough to withstand a great deal, whereas my pack does not have that luxury but nor do we need to. We have everything we need here on our lands and there is nothing you can offer me that will make me change my mind.”
We could all tell that we were going to get nowhere with Alpha Axel and after a few seconds of silence, I thought I would try a different approach.
“You have a beautiful family Alpha Axel.” I comment as I leaned forward to look at a picture that sat on his desk. It was one of Calanthe surrounded by their children. “The twin boys, Kameron and Kyle, they are the oldest?”
He looks at me with a sideways glance, “Yes, they just turned ten.”
“And the adorable one with the blonde curly hair?” I ask
“Kaitlyn, she’s 6. She gets her hair and her sass from her mom’s side of the family. Kaleb the little one is two.”
“Do you know what you’re having?” I don’t think he was particularly fond of my questions, but he indulged me. Damien and Ian, both just watched me, uncertain where I was going with this.
“We wanted it to be a surprise. Kaitlyn is hoping for another sister though, so she’s not completely overran with boys.”
I laughed a little, “I’m sure she is. You both have certainly been blessed with a beautiful family.”
“The Moon Goddess most certainly has been generous with us, yes.” He replied
I took a deep breath, hoping that my assumptions about Alpha Axel were correct and continued.
“I don’t have any pups of my own, I hope to, perhaps someday,” I looked down slightly thinking back to my freak out in the car, “but I haven’t been blessed like you and your wife. Instead, the Moon Goddess has blessed me in other ways. She has given me abilities to become a fighter, not a mom.”
I glanced at Alpha Axel; he was still looking at me with uncertainty, but his face has softened, and his eyes were less cold.
“I don’t know why she chose me. There’s nothing particularly special about me, I was the daughter of an Alpha from a small pack and yet here I am, trusting in the Moon Goddess to guide me as I try to help bring peace to packs who aren’t as fortunate as yours or mine.”
“I can tell that you love and care for your pack just as you love and care for your children. You would do anything to keep them safe. Well, I am also someone’s daughter and unfortunately my father isn’t here to help me, but the Moon Goddess did guide me to my mates.” I smile over at Damien and Ian who are looking at me with so much love in their eyes.
“But because of my gifts, there are some who wish to hurt me. They would like nothing more than to kill my mates and see me chained in a box.” I could sense that my words were reaching Alpha Axel, “Currently Alpha Ronan of Silver Creek has tried to attack me and my mates twice and he wont stop. Regardless of accords there is a war coming between Silver Creek and Blood Moon.”
“So, I ask you, Alpha Axel, if I was your daughter, or if it were your Calanthe in danger, how far would you go for your family? Because that is why we are here. Damien, Ian and Aiden are my family, and they would go to any length to protect me.”
This time when I looked into his eyes, I saw raw emotion. He would do anything for his family, and I could tell he understood.
“I will hear you out. What do you propose?” He said, this time there was no aggravation in his voice, only sincerity.
