Aiden
I wanted her in the Alpha suite because I didn’t want to have her out of my sight. At least in here, there is plenty of room to stay close, but at least out of the way.
I took a seat on the white leather couch that backed up to the large bay window but faced the hospital bed. From here I could watch. I could gather that her EKG was normal, but her heart rate was dangerously high and her blood pressure incredibly low.
Severe dehydration I thought I heard Dr. Williams say, which would make sense. I remember her lips looked dry and painfully cracked. He had Normal Saline running wide open into one IV to help rehydrate her and antibiotics going into the other. Why did she need antibiotics? Why hadn’t her wolf healed her? A nurse was hanging another bag of fluid, electrolytes I believe?
Noticing that Damien has not stopped pacing since we arrived, he was starting to put me on edge.
“Will you come sit down already!”
After a quick huff, Damien finally came over and sat down on the couch next to me.
“Do you think someone did this to her? He finally asked but softly so we wouldn’t disturb the nurses.
“I don’t know. If someone did, they just signed their death warrant, I can guarantee you that much!”
“Agreed!”
“All this time we’ve waited for a mate and now she’s finally here. What if she doesn’t . . .”
“She’ll be fine,” I said as reassuring as I could. “Dr. Williams is the best.” Looking at him, I forced a small smile. As macho and intimidating as Damien was, he really had the biggest heart. Just not a lot of people got to see that side of him.
‘Oh please Mood Goddess let our mate be ok!’ I silently prayed to myself.
After a few hours had gone by and several trips in and out made by Dr. Williams and his nurses, he finally came over. Taking a seat on the lounge chair across from us, he removed his glasses and pinched the bridge of his nose.
“She’s stable” he finally said. “Your mate is very strong.”
“How did you know that she was our mate?”
He chuckled, “I’ve been doing this since before either of you were born, and I couldn’t think of any other reason why you,” looking directly at me now, “would growl at me unless it was your mate whose naked body lay on my table.”
I didn’t appreciate the naked remark and had to stop myself from bearing my teeth at him again.
“And then when you demanded she be taken to the Alpha suite, it only confirmed my suspicion.”
“So what is going on? Will she be ok?!” Damien quickly asked.
“First, tell me everything you guys you saw in the woods when you found her? Did she say anything?”
Damien quickly proceeded to recap our encounter this morning with our mate. After he was done, Dr. Williams shook his head in deep thought. “I see.”
“Well, that might explain my theory then. She is severely dehydrated; I suspect she hasn’t eaten or drank anything for the past several days. Her blood work, at first I’ll admit, puzzled me slightly, but now it makes sense. Her blood work showed that she was in severe Rhabdomyolysis.”
“It’s almost as if her wolf had been continually running without a break for several days. Why a wolf would do this I can’t even begin to fathom. Until now, I would have said that it wouldn’t be possible, the heart would give out and the body would shut down within a few days, two maybe three at most? But I would have to guess your mate has been running for 5 days, maybe even more.”
“That amount of running without rest and proper nutrition caused her muscle tissue to begin breaking down, thus releasing a protein into the blood that damages the kidneys and creating a domino effect, if you will, that leads to other organ damage. I am not even sure how your mate is alive right now, to be honest. In all my years I have never seen anything like this, but just in this short amount of time, her body is already responding to the fluids and her blood pressure and heart rate are beginning to normalize. We’ll continue to give her nutrients and fluids through her IV until she wakes up.”
“When do you think she’ll wake up?” I asked.
“Well, it’s hard to say. After this amount of trauma to her body, I would guess that her wolf is also now hiding in the depths of her mind. To exhausted from the journey. Something was driving her wolf to bring her here, forgoing all her other instincts. That would explain why her wolf never healed from any cuts that she obtained along the way. It doesn’t make a lot of sense though, don’t you think?”
We both nod our agreement as we take in everything Dr. Williams has just told us.
“Maybe we should ask the oracle if he can come by? Could be a long shot, but maybe the Moon Goddess can help give us some answers?”
“I think that’s a great idea!” I replied to Damien’s suggestion, pissed off I didn’t think of that myself.
“Well, Alpha Aiden, Alpha Damien, you may go and see to your mate now. Please call if you need anything. The nurses are monitoring all of her vitals from their station but they will still need to tend to her personally. I trust that neither of you will interfere?”
“We’ll behave” Damien quickly retorted.
“Well, I’ll behave, but I’ll do my best to keep Damien in line."
“Hey!”
“Very good” Dr. Williams chuckled, as we all stood.
Damien and I each took a seat at her side. The nurses had gotten her cleaned up and washed her hair. A nurse had even taken the time to braid her hair off to the side. Her hair was a gorgeous golden honey color, a drastic difference from how it appeared in the woods. Her face was still pale but she looked as if she was simply sleeping, not in some kind of coma.
I reached out and took her hand into mine. Damien copied my actions and took her other hand into his own. The feeling was indescribable, the pull of the mate bond radiated throughout my whole body. This mate was mine, and I would do anything for her, be anything for her. She would have every fiber of my being wrapped around her finger.
“Curious” Dr. Williams said
“What is?”
“Even in her state, her body is still responsive to the mate bond. That’s good news! Her heart rate is more controlled and her body more relaxed.”
My heart soared! I looked down at my little mate. “It’s ok Princess, we’re here. You’re safe.”
“Nothing is going to happen to you baby girl, I promise. Rest so you can come back to us.” Damien added.

The next day, Ezra, our pack oracle, came to the hospital to visit our mate.
“Welcome! Please come in!”
“Alpha Damien,” “Alpha Aiden,” bowing to us individually as he addressed us.
“Thank you so much for coming on such short notice!”
“We really appreciate your time.”
“Alphas, it is my pleasure. How may I be of assistance?”
After a quick recap of the previous day's events, Ezra nodded.
“ Very strange.” . . . He thought for a moment. “Alphas, may I sit with your mate?”
“Of course, here . . .”
Ezra takes a seat beside our mate, and we stand a few feet behind him. Enough so we can keep an eye on our mate while still giving him some space. He simply stares at her for several minutes, while silently talking to the Moon Goddess.
“Alphas, may I have your permission to place my hands on your mate?”
It was Damien this time who let out a low growl but Ezra seems unfazed.
“You have our permission.”
“Thank you Alphas.”
Ezra then proceeds to place one hand on our mate's forehead and holds her hand in his other. He closes his eyes and begins silently talking, mumbling something that I can’t make out. After a few minutes, something changes, our mate's heart rate begins to climb, her breathing becomes faster and heavier. . . You can see her eyes shifting side to side under her lids. Her head starts to shake side to side almost as if she were having a bad dream.
“What are you doing to her!” I take a step forward, ready to intervene.
“Your mate is fine, Alpha Aiden, please step back.” I hesitate for a moment, glancing back down at my mate before I finally do as he asked.
“So much pain” he whispers. “I can see now why you took it away.”
If it wasn’t for my Alpha hearing I don’t know if I would have heard him, but our mate now started to visibly calm back down. I would swear that I was imaging a soft glow around her if it weren’t for Damien asking me, “Do you see that too?” I nodded.
After a few more moments, he spoke again. “You are in good hands, we will see to it.”
And with that, the soft glow began to fade and Ezra stood, turning around to face us.
“Your mate is very special. She has been blessed with an unusual gift from the Moon Goddess herself. She will have an important role to play in the future of this pack and many others. It is up to the both of you now to love her, cherish her, nurture her, and more importantly, you must train her.”
“Train her?”
“Train her for what exactly?”
. . . . . . “For everything.” . . . “She will not only be our Luna. She will be the Mother Luna of all wolves.”
