The Run

Damien “Where are you going?” Aiden’s voice came through mind-link. “I’m not sure.” I stopped running and put my nose up into the air. “Do you smell that?” Aiden’s wolf sniffed the air as well. “Rogues?” “No, this is different” . . . I keep sniffing, trying to find which direction the smell is coming from. “It’s not a dirty rouge smell, this smells almost sweet.” “I think I smell it, this way!”Aiden and I take off towards the western border. The scent is getting stronger. “Listen”. We both stop and turn our ears. The faint sound of fallen branches snapping and leaves rustling starts to become more apparent. “Whoever this is, they are fast.” “Should we signal for the guards?” Aiden asks as we take off towards the sound. “It only sounds like one wolf.” “What would a lone wolf be doing crossing into our territory?” “I don’t know, but we’re about to find out,” I say as I come to a halt at the river that signals the end of our land. Aiden comes and stands at my side. “They are close, they’ll be here any second.” I would imagine that a lone wolf coming face to face with two extremely large Alphas in the middle of the forest would be scared shitless, but what happened next blew my mind. Suddenly the wolf appeared, flying through the trees and jumping the river bank with ease until they were right in front of us. Seeing us, the wolf came to a halt and just stared at us, panting heavily. For the first time, I could take a good look at it. The wolf actually had white fur but was so dirty and muddy that it could easily be mistaken for a brown Omega if it weren’t for the fact that this wolf almost matched mine and Aiden’s wolves in height. It had to be another Alpha. Aiden having the same realization that I was asked, “What is an Alpha doing here?!” Before either of us could say another word, the wolf began to shift. Strange considering they stand the best chance of fighting in their wolf form. A second later, this large mudded wolf suddenly turned into a small girl. Slowly she stood, wavering slightly; heavily she raised her head to look at us. Our wolves howled in our heads, “MATE” I stepped towards her and she reached out her hand, not the least bit frightened as my large wolf towered over her. I placed my snout underneath her hand and I felt it. That connection, that spark that can only be felt when one finds their true mate. She reached her other hand out toward Aiden and he stepped forward. He placed her hand on his snout as well. I could feel the excitement of his wolf having found our mate. “Two of you?” we heard her soft fragile voice say with a slightly confused look on her face before she relaxed with a small smile. “I found you” . . . . she said in almost a whisper . . . . “I can rest now” and with that, her eyes rolled back and she collapsed down on the ground. Shifting back, we immediately hovered over her. She had a pulse but it was very weak. Her face looked sunken in, her lips cracked and dry, her naked body covered in dirt and blood from scratches created by the forest. Her hair was so full of mud and debris it was hard to tell her natural hair color. “We need to get her to the hospital, NOW!” “Aiden, you’re the fastest. Carry her and I’ll alert the hospital we’re on our way!” He nodded and shifted back to his wolf. I picked her up and carefully placed her on his back before I shifted myself. He took off as fast as he could while I followed behind, making sure she stayed on. I mind-linked the doctor that we found a woman near the border who’s collapsed and in need of immediate medical assistance and to have his team waiting by the door. A quick “Right away Alpha” came through. “Doctor Williams and his team are waiting by the door for us.” Aiden’s reply came in the form of a quick nod from his wolf. I could sense his worry in regards to our new mate. The path to the hospital was only a few minutes at wolf speed but it seemed like it took forever when the hospital finally came into view. A sudden realization hit me. “Dr. Williams, Alpha Aiden and I are in wolf form. Please find a change of clothes for us.” “Already have some waiting for you at the door, Alpha.” Doctor Williams was a long-time friend of the family and the best at what he did. We were lucky to have him with us. As soon as we reached the hospital doors, Dr. Williams is there waiting with a stretcher and his nursing team. They gently grab our mate off of Aiden’s back and place her on the stretcher. A sudden deep growl from Aiden had the nursing staff pause momentarily unsure of what to do. Doctor Williams understood and he quickly covered our mate with a blanket before rushing her through the doors and into the exam room. We wolves are extremely protective, and the thought of so many eyes on our naked mate set him on edge. “Alpha Aiden, Alpha Damien, would you please follow me.” One of the nurses says with a bow. We followed her into an unoccupied exam room and see two sets of clothes laid out on the table. “I tried to find the correct sizes.” We both give her a slight nod and she leaves the exam room, allowing us to shift and dress quickly. Hurrying out of the room, not caring that this shirt was a size too small and hugged my frame a little tighter than I would have liked, Aiden and I pushed our way into the exam room where our mate was being treated. “Alpha Damien, Alpha Aiden, I’m sorry but I’m going to have to ask you both to remain out in the lobby while we treat . . .” “Move her to the Alpha suite, you will treat her there” Aiden’s Alpha voice boomed throughout the exam room. Immediately, the nurse bowed her head, showing us her neck. “Right away, Alpha Aiden!” Dr. Williams glanced between the two of us with side eyes but said nothing. “Gather the supplies ladies and take everything to the Alpha suite.” The Alpha suite was on the top floor of the hospital. It was a large room made available for only Alphas and their families. It looked more like a presidential suite at a 5-star hotel than it did a hospital room but it contained everything medically necessary to treat any ailment. Once our mate was situated in her new room, Doctor Williams and his nurses once again made quick work assessing every cut and scratch. Drawing multiple vials of blood. Hooking her up to various machines and running more tests. There were fluids and different colored bags hanging on a pole that was going into her through IVs in both of her arms. I couldn’t help but pace back and forth anxiously waiting for someone to tell me something.
