The Challenge

Ranks from both sides start to enclose around the clearing, all trying to witness. I finally look back and see a line of our pack’s wolves, all ready to defend their home and their loved ones and even me. I notice Lucas and Keegan’s wolves in front of the ranks, waiting behind their Alpha’s. I look at my mates. I can see from here that they are visibly trembling. I finally open the mind link to the both of them. ‘I need you both to trust me, everything will be ok. I love you both so much.’ And then I closed the link again before I could hear any responses. I allowed Ian’s voice to come through, “Camille, listen carefully, I don’t trust this Alpha for one second. He will not fight fair, keep your guard up. Don’t let him take you to the ground if you can help it. He thinks you’re small, weak, he will underestimate you; use it to your advantage. Do you remember what you did with Jessica?” “Yes, but I was just trying to piss her off to teach her a lesson.” “Do that if you can, frustrate him, make him lose control, but be careful, regardless of what happens, I won’t let anything happen to you.” “I will try it” I nod at Ian, understanding that he is willing to break the rules of the challenge if it means saving my life. Let's just hope it doesn’t come to that. I reach out and scratch at Ian’s big head, his wolf on all fours still towers over me by at least a foot. Finally, I break away and square up with Alpha Stephen. Ian and Black Water's Beta began circling us, watching our every move, trying to keep both enemies in sight. I get into my stance and Alpha Stephens doesn’t fully go into a fighting stance, he’s cocky, arrogant. ‘Moon Goddess please be with me, help me to win this challenge’ I silently prayed to myself ‘I’m right here my child’, I heard her whisper. He comes closer and circles me a bit, finally he tried to throw a punch at my head, and I dodge it at the last possible second, ‘slow him down Cam’, I am telling myself; he smiles and then again lunges at me trying to throw a series of punches, I dodge them all, ducking and spinning just out of his reach. “Well, your quick little wolf, I’ll give you that” he sneered. He comes at me with another punch before dropping and kicking his leg out trying to sweep me off my feet. I anticipated his movement and jump back, landing on my feet, dodging the sweep. He comes at me swinging again and throw after throw, I dodge him. I can hear him growling now, he’s getting frustrated. Good, hopefully he will lose some control. He comes at me again and tries to swing. I dodge but now punch back, hitting him square in the ribs, making him take a step back. I can see his Beta looking confused as he looks at his Alpha and then at me. Before he gets over the shock, I lunge at him and land another good hit on the exact same spot, breaking the ribs. “Feisty little wolf aren’t you” he says, trying to mess with me. He throws himself at me and lands a hard punch to the side of my face. I block his next hit and before I know it, we are trading hit for hit almost. I can feel he’s done some damage to my shoulder and a few other places. I strategically land my hits on the same areas over and over, trying to break and shatter the bone underneath. I land a kick to the side of his knee, breaking it, causing him to wobble. I can see in his face that he is getting pissed, he thought this challenge would have been over before it even started and yet here we are, still bloody and both still standing. He runs at me and with the full force of his weight drags me to the ground, he’s trying to get on top of me and I struggle to keep to his side. I land a knee to his ribs, knocking him back, but as I try to stand, I feel a sharp pain in the back of my leg and turn around to see Alpha Stephen with a knife to the back of my leg as he slices it down my calf causing me to cry out. Ian howls out and begins to pace; pissed off that the Alpha is fighting dirty although it’s not a direct violation of the challenge. Alpha Stephen grabs my leg and pulls me underneath him and stabs the knife into my stomach. I start to cry out when I stop myself and close my eyes for a second and call to my wolf, ‘Give me your pain’ I hear her say. When I open my eyes again, the pain is gone, I feel absolutely nothing. He pulls the knife from my stomach and stabs it into my upper arm, the smile leaving his face when he sees that his actions cause no response from me. I simply continue to stare into his cold eyes. “My turn.” I bring my legs up under him and kick him with such force that I knock him back. I stand up and look at him lying on the ground, enjoying the confused look on his face as I simply pull the knife out of my arm. I am quick to strike, slicing open his thigh and then his rib cage making him scream out. Seeing the opportunity, I began to bring the blade down to his throat. As I do, I see Alpha Stephens Beta lunge at me with bared teeth, his face gets inches away from mine before he is suddenly knocked back by Ian, who took him down mid-strike. As soon as they hit the ground, Ian ripped out his throat with a growl. That’s what he gets for interfering. With the distraction, Alpha Stephen knocked me off of him and as I went to try to get back to his throat, he jumped and shifted into his large black-matted wolf, violating the challenge, but the challenge must still finish. He bared his teeth and jumped at me. I rolled out of the way and shifted, bringing my wolf forward. When I landed on four paws, you could hear everyone gasp: Black Water and Blood Moon wolves alike. His wolf suddenly snorted, confused as he starred at me. I took his moment of shock and side swiped at his belly. He tried to move but I sunk my teeth and claws down hard into his skin, tearing his muscle. I didn’t let up, I continued to tear away at his skin until I could feel his breathing slow, it was becoming gurgled as his lungs filled with blood. I finally let up to see his bloodied wolf trying to crawl away. I stood there and as I watched him attempt to flee for his life, I did something I shouldn’t have been able to do; I opened a mass mind-link between not just all of the Blood Moon warriors but all the members of Black Water as well. “Members of Black Water,” you could see every wolf looking around, wondering how this was possible, “Alpha Stephen is not fit to lead you or any pack! He rules out of fear and pain. He has caused you all to suffer for the sake of his own power and greed. An Alpha is supposed to protect their pack and he has failed you. The Moon Goddess has seen her children suffer and has decided things must change!” My wolf turns her attention back to the Alpha. As I make my way over him, I hear him say in the mass mind link ‘mercy’ . . .my wolf snorted. ‘You want mercy? You and your Beta violated the rules of this challenge, but where you fail in your cowardness, I will not!” I lunge my wolf at him, biting down into the soft flesh of his throat. I rip my head back, finally ending the challenge.
