She could feel her forehead getting sweaty. This is the part she couldn't plan for. They sneaked down countless hallways. Luckily for them, they did not meet anyone. They were still two floors away from the aircraft bay. Saying a quick little prayer, she peeked around the corner. Not seeing any movement, she beckoned the others and they quietly made their way to the stairwell. She took a deep breath and pressed the button on the wall that opens the door. They stepped into it, one after the other. When the door slid closed behind them, she took a deep breath.
They were halfway up the stairs when they heard an explosion. Red lights started blinking around them, and a siren was blaring. Her heart jumped into her throat. She turned around and yelled 'Head back down!'. They did as she said, and when they reached the bottom of the stairs, she saw that there was an opening beneath it. Ushering them all in, she got in after them. A few had silent tears streaming down their faces, and they all had the same fear she knew was in her eyes, mirrored in theirs. 'What is happening?' the boy whispered to her. 'I don't know' she replied.
The next moment the door slid open, and they heard shouting and numerous footsteps running up the stairs. She didn't dare to sneak a peek. More explosions followed, rocking the spacecraft. The boy grabbed her around the waist, pressing his head into her side. Absentmindedly she started stroking his hair, more to calm herself than him. The vibrations in the walls stopped. The group looked at her, panic etched on their faces. 'Stay calm and quiet' she whispered. They nodded at her. She waited till it was quiet for about ten minutes, before gently removing the boy's arms around her. 'Stay here' she ordered 'I am going to see what is going on'. They started to protest, but she shushed them with her finger against her lips, showing them to not make a sound.
She pulled out the weapon she took from Suklo, and examined it. Seeing that it had a button that pressed forward on the top, she aimed it at the wall and pressed. A red laser beam shot out and burned a hole in the wall. Grinning, she released the button, showed the group a thumbs up, and then went up the stairs. She listened with her ear against the door at the top of the stairwell, and hearing nothing, pressed the button to open it.
She peeked round the door, and saw nothing. She made it down the hallway and turning the corner, she bumped into a broad back. Deklan turned around, and before she had time to react, he swiped the weapon out of her hand, grabbed her by the throat, and lifted her against the wall. She could not breathe. 'You! You killed my friend, and after I did everything to make you comfortable!' he ground out between his sharp teeth, anger radiating off him in waves. She clawed at his hand around her neck. Black spots were beginning to cloud her vision, her lungs burning at the lack of oxygen, her body starting to feel numb. She tried to kick, but it was feeble attempts that didn't even hurt him. She looked into his eyes, but all she could see was raging anger and contempt.
She thought she was going to die, when she saw his eyes widen in surprise. He looked down, and his grip on her throat weakened. She fell from his grip, landing on her feet. Then she saw the blade sticking out the front of his chest. Taking deep, slow breaths, she watched him collapse. Behind him stood a human looking man, except he had elf like ears. He had a sword in each hand. 'Thank you' she whispered, before she sank down the wall, sitting down, placing her head on her knees. She was feeling very light headed and didn't want to faint.
The stranger got down on his knee next to her, placing his hand on her shoulder. 'Are you allright?' he asked, looking at her with a concerned expression on his face. She looked at him with surprise on her face. 'You speak English' she observed. 'Yes. I am in charge of the rescue missions of abducted humans. It makes it easier if I speak their language' he replied. 'Oh. That makes sense'. 'Do you know where the others are?' he asked. 'How would I know if I can trust you?' she answered his question with a question. He laughed, then said 'That is a fair question'. He took out what looked like a wallet from his shirt pocket, flipped through it, then pulled out a card, handing it to her. She studied it. 'Lordik Zenthus, Commander Intergalactic Rescue Force' she read out loud. 'Okay, Mr. Zenthus, follow me' she said, handing him his card back, then getting up. She walked back to the stairwell. When they reached the bottom, she wanted to vomit. Three dead bodies greeted her, blood splattered on the wall. She started to hyperventilate. 'No, no, no' she said, tears welling in her eyes. Lordik put his hand on her shoulder, but she pulled away, her eyes following the blood trail. Following the trail, she exited the stairwell, seeing five more dead woman in the hall. Looking up, she saw Suklo, sneering at her, as he cut the boy's throat, and then let the lifeless body drop to the floor. She saw red. She charged at him before Lordik could stop her. He couldn't shoot at Suklo, as she was in the firing line. She ran with all her might, and then launched herself at the alien, slamming him into the wall. 'This time I will kill you for good!' she screamed at him, slamming the heel of her hand under his chin. He fought back, pushing her away from him. She launched herself at him, but he brought his hand up, stabbing the blade he was holding into her side. Ignoring the pain, she pulled the blade out. He had his hand raised in the air, ready to stab her with a second blade, when a red laser shot past her, hitting him in the chest, leaving a big, smoking hole. He fell down, his lifeless eyes staring at the roof. She coughed, and tasted blood in her mouth. Then everything went dark as she lost consciousness.
