Chapter 1 : Abducted
'You need to calm down' Alexis sang out loudly with Taylor Swift. She was heading home after a double shift at the gym, where she works as a Tae Bo instructor. Her sore muscles reminded her that she worked her clients a bit hard today. She grimaced as she flexed her leg muscles while waiting for the traffic light to turn green.
She turned off the freeway, onto the gravel road leading to her small cabin. It was almost nine o'clock in the evening, and she still had exercise programs to work out for new clients. She loved her job. She loved helping people get fit and gain self confidence. And above all, she loved the feeling of being able to defend herself if the need ever arose.
Pulling into the garage, she stretched when she got out of the car. Locking it, she pulled down the garage door and made sure it was secured. Then she walked into her cabin. Going into the kitchen, she put frozen mac' and cheese into the microwave. She did not feel like cooking. Pouring herself a glass of juice, she waited for her food. She switched on the TV and listened to the news. A few girls have disappeared in the area over the last few days. She prayed that they were safe, wondering what the circumstances were. The ding of the microwave pulled her out of her thoughts, and she took the bowl out of the microwave.
She sat at the kitchen counter, eating her food, planning the next day out in her head. She had a few new clients coming in to the gym for orientation.
After she cleaned her dishes, she pulled the files she had to work on closer. Glancing at the age, weight and height of each client, she proceeded to work out exercise programs. She was so immersed in her work, that she did not notice the sharp light reflecting off the living room window.
A loud snap, from somewhere outside, brought her attention back to the present. 'What in the world was that?' she wondered out loud. She walked to the front door and peeked out the window. She couldn't see anything in the dense trees surrounding her cabin. Shrugging, she made sure the door was locked, before returning to her files.
It was half past midnight when she finally finished with the last file. Stretching her back, she sighed in satisfaction. She put the files back in her shoulder bag, hanging it on the hook next to the garage door. She did a last round through the cabin, making sure the doors were locked and the windows closed.
She opened the taps in the bathtub, adding bath salts and watching the coloured crystals swirl in the water. When the water was enough, she closed the taps, stripped out of her tracksuit, and sunk into the water. She leaned her head back against the side of the bath and let the warmth of the water soothe her sore muscles. She has been one of the instructors at the local gym for five years, and each day she still pressed her body to do more. She was tall, and didn't have an ounce of fat on her well toned body. She was twenty seven, and decided that she will rather remain single than go through another shipwreck of a relationship like her last one.
She felt the water turn cold, and hastily washed herself, before getting out. Wrapping her towel around her body, she brushed her teeth. She brushed out her hair and braided it, then she went into the bedroom and put on a tank top and shorts. She set her alarm clock on her cellphone, plugging in the charger. Picking up a book, she settled into bed before reading.
The book fell from her hands, and she woke with a start. Chuckling, she closed it and placed it next to her cellphone. Switching off the light, she just dozed off, when the sound of breaking glass roused her again. Frowning, she got up quietly, walking on tip toe to the bedroom door. She peeked into the hallway, but saw nothing. Padding to the living room, her way was suddenly blocked by a large hulking form. On instinct she got into battle stance and threw a hard punch with her right arm. Her fist made contact with flesh and she heard a loud growl.
She anticipated the punch coming her way and ducked beneath it. She did not see the kick coming untill it caught her in her face, snapping her head back and the force throwing her against the wall. She saw stars, but forced herself on her feet again, adrenaline coursing through her veins. She landed two punches in the vicinity of her assailant's face, following up with a kick to the stomach. The assailant dropped to his knees, and she ran. She reckoned she needed to get to her car so that she can drive away.
She made it to the garage door, and then cursed herself as she struggled to unlock the door. She heard heavy footsteps coming her way, and she yanked the door open, running for her car.
Her assailant grabbed her braid, pulling her back against his body. She could feel his strength and decided that she will not go down without a fight. She lifted her foot, planning on stomping his foot, when he grabbed her throat, cutting off her oxygen supply. She stomped as hard as she could, earning her a few words in a language she did not know.
Her assailant released her throat, and her lungs burned as she drew in big breaths. Her elation was short lived, as he grabbed the back of her head, stepping to the car. 'Ag damn' she said as she realised what he was about to do. The last thing she saw, before losing consciousness, was the hood of the car approacing her face at a very rapid speed.
