Chapter1: Death was only the beginning
TAYLOR (AURELIA) POV Pain. That was the first thing I felt. I slowly opened my eyes and sat up. The last thing I remembered was being hit by a truck. I knew those bastards were going to come after me, but I didn't expect them to move so fast. I underestimated them. My eyes were still blurry. "s**t," I cursed under my breath, from the headache and bitter taste in my mouth. What? Who is that? That is not my voice. I looked down in panic. Snowy skin, delicate hands. No, no, no. I looked around. Am I not in a hospital? The room looked like an old royal room, with red velvet curtains, golden candle stands, and royal blue walls. I rushed towards the mirror. The person looking back at me was not me. Petite, pale, with dark red hair, in a white dress. With bright golden eyes that mismatched her appearance. I stepped back in panic. What is going on? Then I laughed. Am I going mad? Then it turned to panic. I stared back at the reflection. "No." "No, this can't be happening." I am supposed to be in the hospital after the car crash, right? This is not me. Is someone playing a game with me? Then another headache hit. I held my head, gasping from the pain. Fragments of memories. War. Prophecy. Her parents. Unwanted. A wedding alliance between the wolves and humans. The wedding. Mockery. Weak human queen. Werewolf hunters. Luna. Alpha King. Cold husband. Cruel laughter. Throne. Loneliness. So much loneliness. I fell to the ground, gasping. I still didn't believe this. I moved closer to the mirror, trying to move my hand, and the reflection copied my movement. I touched my face, trying to see if it was real or fake. If it was real, the reflection was real. A few minutes later, footsteps sounded from the doorway. I turned to the door. I can't let them know I was not the original host. Four maids entered. I looked at them. Their facial expressions told me they were surprised to see me. And maybe disappointed. "Your Majesty!" They tried to come closer. I raised my hand and stopped them. "Don't!" I shouted weakly. Another memory. A woman. A cup of tea. The original host was poisoned. Why? "How long have I been...?" I asked. The maids looked at each other, as if deciding whether they should answer me. "Three days, Your Majesty." "Get the physician," a maid said. Her uniform looked different from the others. She looked like she was the head maid here. I stood up from the floor. I was trapped in a body that was not mine, and she was killed. Someone wanted the original Luna Queen dead. Her parents hated her for being different. She had secrets the werewolves knew nothing about except her parents. "Your Majesty, how are you feeling?" the head maid asked, not out of concern, just to know my current health state. "I am fine," I said with a smile. The maid frowned. I bet they had never seen the original host smile before. There should be a way to leave this body and get back to my original body. I don't want to be stuck here. I need to leave. If death sent me here, maybe death could send me back. I need space from these people. I can't do it in their presence. "Prepare a bath…" Before I could finish giving my orders, the door opened. A man walked in. Tall, with silver eyes and dark hair. Her husband. Ragnar. I scoffed, remembering how he had treated the original host. I walked back to the bed, sat down, and crossed my legs. Our eyes met. Something flashed in his eyes. I didn't look away. We stared at each other for like six seconds before he looked away first. "Leave," he ordered, his voice cold, deep, and uninterested, as if he didn't want to be here but had to. I smirked. First suspect. I knew with the hatred he had for the original host, he might have killed her. Maybe I should provoke him so he could finish the job and I could go back to my world. I want revenge on my killers too. I watched the maids scrambling out of the room. When the door closed, he turned to me. He stared at me for seconds. "You caused quite a commotion," he finally said. I laughed. A small bitter one. That was on behalf of the original host. He looked surprised, but the emotion disappeared as fast as it had appeared. "This is what you say to your queen and Luna who has been in a coma for three days?" I said coldly. "The kingdom cannot afford another incident like this," he shot back. "Oh." That was the only thing I said. I couldn't believe it. How come the original host was in love with this cold-blooded monster? I hate him already. His jaw tightened. "The physician said your condition wasn't that critical..." "And you believed that?" I cut him off. "I will not take that disrespect from you, Aurelia, and I know it was one of your schemes to have the attention turned to you," he said, his voice holding no warmth. I gave a small smile. "Attention?" I looked him up and down. I stood up and bowed. "I apologize for the commotion, and this scheme will not happen again, I hope," I mocked, my eyes darkening. It won't, because I am going to jump out the window. Our eyes held each other. I am not one to be walked over, and I am going to start with him. He frowned. "You are different..." "Maybe the near-death incident changed some people, Your Majesty," I answered coldly. "You should leave, Your Majesty. I am sorry for the disturbance," I added. I can't stand him. He cleared his throat. "The physician will show up soon. You should be able to attend court tomorrow. I will take no lateness or tardiness." He walked to the door, not waiting for my reply. I turned to look at the window. The view from the castle was beautiful. If I jumped, wouldn't it be painful? I felt his eyes on me before the door closed, but I didn't turn to acknowledge him. What if I don't return to my original world? What if it is just like those fiction books that my niece reads, where a character is thrown into another world and is stuck there until he or she completes their task? System? There should be a system. I walked to the wall. Maybe this would wake the system. I hit my head on the wall, and that reminded me that if I were to jump out that window, I would feel the pain before I died. Do I want to die again and relive that pain? No. Since there's no system, and I can't die, I will just do what I like. I lost my old life. I had a new life and body. I will make sure to survive to the end. My plan: Survive the palace. Find a way out of the prophecy and marriage. Not die during my escape plan. And finally, find a way out of this world. But first, I need to know more about this world. A small smile appeared on my face. "This is going to be fun."
