Summer of 1963
Alicia stood like a little girl playing with her friends at the local park near her home. When she got home she found the house empty, only the staff remained. As soon as she closed the door her maid ran at Alicia throwing her arms around the little girl crying with relief.
“Oh thank goodness your ok, where have you been. Oh never mind now your safe.” the maid rushed Alicia upstairs and given a bath before dinner.
“Ivan, where’s mama and papa?” Alicia asked her child-like voice full of worry. Ivan answered in a way that she could understand, “Ms. Alicia, ma’am, your parents were called away on business. They ask that you stay near me when you go out at night, so I can protect you.”
“Ok,” Alicia said to him. After that, she kept to herself. She would let no one near her but Ivan and the maid. Alicia was content until one dreadful afternoon she got the letter telling her that her parent’s mission was a failure, that they had not been able to get out in time. She cried in her room for hours.
