After the others left the office late in the evening, I rose from the couch and approached Ash. He offered a faint smile as I drew nearer. I found myself cherishing that smile. Josh had a pleasant smile too, but Ash’s had a profound effect on me.
“Is everything all right?” he asked.
“Yes, I just wondered if you wanted to take a walk before we part ways for the night.”
Ash smiled and nodded before rising from his seat, and we exited the office together. Stepping downstairs and outside, we relished the warm night air as we strolled around the lawn behind the house—nothing grand or extraordinary. Yet, I found myself contemplating whether we needed to do something grand and special. Wasn’t that what true mates did for each other?
