THE LAST FIRST DATE

213 Words
As she sat at the small café, sipping her coffee and staring out the window, Emily couldn't help but feel a sense of dread wash over her. This was it, her last first date. She had vowed to herself that if this one didn't work out, she was done with the dating scene. At 28, Emily had been through her fair share of failed relationships and disappointing dates. She had tried online dating, asked friends to set her up, and even attended singles events, but nothing seemed to stick. Just as she was starting to lose hope, her phone buzzed with a text from her best friend, Sarah. "Hey girl, just wanted to wish you good luck on your date tonight!" Emily smiled, feeling a surge of gratitude towards her friend. As she glanced at her watch, Emily realized that her date, Jack, was running late. She sighed and took another sip of her coffee, wondering if this was a bad omen. Just as she was starting to get anxious, the door to the café swung open and Jack walked in, flashing a charming smile as he scanned the room for Emily. She felt a flutter in her chest as their eyes met, and he made his way over to her.
