Homecoming
Stella walked towards the villa, her heart racing with excitement, she wanted to see her 9 yrs old daughter Aurora who she hasn't seen for three months.
She thought of how Aurora would react when she sees her because she had been acting weird for the past two months. She ignores her calls and acts very impatient when she decides to pick up.
Stella had pondered long and hard if she had done something wrong to her but she couldn't point out anything.
Stella sighed and stared around the villa it has just been three months but it seems like three years.
She entered the elevator which took 10 mins to reach the 3rd floor. She walked straight to Aurora's room without wasting a second, not even dropping her luggage.
Freda on the other hand was walking through the hall way to clean Stella's room, Stella had texted her earlier that she was on her way, Freda's face widened with a beautiful smile, as she sees Stella walking towards Aurora's room. She ran to her, spreading her hands for a warm hug.
"Ma'am your back" Freda said smiling.
"I missed you so much" She added.
"Awwn, I missed you more!!, Aurora's in right?" Stella asked with a wide smile.
"Yes ma'am she's in" Freda said.
"Okay I'll see you downstairs" Stella said and opened Aurora's door.
She saw Aurora knitting a cute tooth bag which made her excited.
When Aurora was seven, Stella thought her knitting and crocheting to keep herself busy when she's idle and since then it became a part of her.
"Honey am back" Stella said smiling and spreading her hands for a warm hug.
"You could've knocked, besides you didn't call to say you were coming" Aurora snapped at her.
This action made Stella hurt and confused at the same time
"What's wrong are you mad, did someone hurt you or did you got bullied again" Stella asked trying to understand Aurora's sudden anger, she kept on doubting herself that Aurora couldn't be possibly mad because she was back.
"Oh it's time for the dinner I have to get ready" Aurora said and jumped down from her bed to her beauty room ignoring Stella.
It became clear to Stella that Aurora has changed, because there was no reason why Aurora kept ignoring her calls while she was in Chicago.
Three months ago, Stella got a message that she would be joining in the three-month business trip.. in Chicago, she became a little bit worried, but decided to take Aurora with her because that was the only way she would be satisfied about Aurora's wellbeing. She told Aurora and surprisingly Aurora insisted on spending the three month with Austin making Stella worried.
Stella became worried and uncomfortable with the idea because she knew how much Austin despises her, she feared he would pass it down to Aurora but she couldn't bear to see Aurora sad. She had made it an Habit to do anything Aurora wanted, so she agreed after all he was still her Parent too.
************ ************
Stella entered her room and laid on the bed sadly, her daughter that made her travel all the way to New York wasn't happy to see her at all.
She picked her phone and texted Austin.
"I just got home" She wanted to wipe out the message because there was no essence of it. Austin wouldn't care if she was back anyways but she has already hit the send button and unexpectedly Austin read it immediately.
"okay" He texted back
"should we go on an ice cream date with Aurora before she moves back to Seoul with me" Stella texted back. Stella regretted what she just typed again immediately she saw READ, she still had feelings for him, yet he sees her like trash, which made her fell extremely stupid and emotionally mad.
She slapped her head really hard, even her fingers had a crush on Austin. At that point she started wondering how she managed to crush on Austin for that long and tolerated his cold demeanor like she had no feelings or pride.
What made her feel extremely stupid was the fact that Austin loved Jasmine his girlfriend so deeply, to him every thing mattered more than her even his side chick buttered with the name girlfriend was better than her.
"I'll go, but Aurora's not going back we'll do so tomorrow"
Stella was shocked when she saw the text, so Aurora wasn't going back, she threw her phone to the other end of the bed frustrated. Every thing that rang on her mind was what has happened to her Aurora, why was she suddenly acting distant.
Stella stood up from the bed and decided to confront Aurora if settling with Austin was her decision,
She hesitated for a minute not because she was scared but was not ready for another surprise. She laid back on the bed and waited for a while before walking out of her room which was on the fourth floor.
Meanwhile, Aurora was fixing her press on nails in a hurry not wanting to offend Jasmine, Austin's girlfriend.
Aurora called Freda with the room telephone to help her fix her nails on her right hand.
Aurora opened the door like she was about to miss a flight, immediately she heard the knock.
"Freda, please help me with my nails" Aurora pleaded and Freda nodded with a smile.
" So how did you feel when you saw your mom after three months" Freda asked
" honestly I don't know why she came back, she's never around anyway"Aurora spilled out like venom.
Freda froze after hearing what Aurora said, she felt happy that she was the one hearing it and not Stella. She felt so bad, and for a moment she paused.
She remembered when Stella called her because she was worried sick about Aurora, and was confused why she wasn't taking her calls, maybe that was when Aurora changed, she thought
She has been working as Stella's personal maid for seven years but no one knew except the other workers and their family members that she was a maid when they go shopping they act like sisters, no one would expect that Freda was Stella's employee.
She had also noticed that Aurora acts bored and uncomfortable when she talks about how she misses Stella. Now Freda got it, she had clinged to Jasmine and changed her character towards her own mother.
"What are you doing! be fast Jasmine and Dad are waiting" Aurora said.
"Sorry" Freda said Snapping back to reality even if it hurts her, she couldn't do anything still.
Stella fell to the ground after hearing what Aurora said, even her own daughter is starting to despise her. She ran back to her room in tears and vowed to move on and divorce Austin, After all Aurora wasn't following her back.
********** ********
Stella woke up to see the brightness of the day, she realized that she had slept crying, she looked at the mirror and covered her face with her palms, her eye bags were heavy and her cheeks were all swollen and red.
She walked to the bathroom to have a shower, she couldn't help crying again. Her own daughter couldn't put up with her within three months living with her dad and his lover.
She wiped her eyes, and walked out of the bathroom after her bath and packed her bags, all her stuffs that were in the villa she arranged them and planned to give them to Freda before travelling back to Seoul.
*********** **********
Stella turned back to look at the villa again before walking into her Uber.
She had earlier given Freda the divorce papers to pass to Austin and some of her stuffs.
The ride was seemed slow to Stella, maybe because still seeing things that makes her remember about Austin.
The Uber stopped at the Mayors Hotel snapping Stella back to reality.
She walked to the reception and identified herself with her ID card, and lodged afterwards, She was excited to the room by a thin and lifeless looking staff, Stella whispered to herself that her problems meant nothing compared to other's.
