~ MYRA
Golden rays of sunlight slipped through the curtains, landing softly on my face and pulling me out of sleep. I yawned as I sat up, stretching my aching body before dragging myself toward the bathroom.
The moment I looked in the mirror, I grabbed my messy hair with both hands and groaned loudly.
“I look like a freaking disaster.”
My swollen eyes, smudged mascara, and tangled hair were enough proof that crying over Rhys again last night had been a terrible idea.
Footsteps approached, and seconds later the bathroom door opened. Riley walked in, taking one look at me before shaking her head dramatically.
“Girl, you look horrible,” she said, concern flashing across her face.
I sighed tiredly. “Blame Rhys.”
I splashed cold water on my face while Riley leaned against the doorframe.
“Wash up and come eat breakfast. You have a lot of explaining to do before we leave for school.”
I nodded silently as she walked out, shutting the door behind her.
God, I hated being this dramatic over a guy.

I slipped into a fluffy knee-length gown with thin straps crossing at the back. The material hugged my curves perfectly, making me feel prettier than I had in days.
Maybe today Rhys would finally notice me.
The thought alone made my stomach flutter.
As I walked into the kitchen, Emily and Riley stared at me with wide eyes.
“Whoa,” Emily said. “You didn’t even dress like this for the Justin Bieber concert, and now you’re dressing up for Rhys?”
I pouted before sitting down across from them.
“You both know I’ve been crushing on Rhys for four years. I need his attention. I want him to like me.”
The girls exchanged knowing looks.
“Rhys this, Rhys that,” Riley muttered playfully. “Anyway, good luck.”
I grinned happily.
Emily, however, looked unconvinced.
“I seriously don’t understand what you see in him. The guy barely cares about anyone, and he literally made you cry yesterday. I can’t believe you’re still running back to him after he hurt you.”
Her words stung because they were true.
But loving Rhys Black had never been logical.
“Maybe when he finally likes me back, it’ll all be worth it,” I whispered dreamily.
Emily sighed dramatically. “Fine. I won’t stop you from chasing your emotionally unavailable bad boy. But if he humiliates you again, I’m strangling him.”
I laughed softly, warmth spreading through my chest at her protectiveness.
“Girls, we’re late,” Riley announced, grabbing her bag.
I quickly stood up. “Wait, I need to get my bag from my room.”
“Where are you going, chubby?” Riley teased.
I rolled my eyes with a smile. “To get my bag.”
The nickname stuck because I used to be adorably chubby as a kid.
Riley, Emily, and I had been best friends since childhood. Even though we mostly saw each other at school now, nothing had changed between us. We still looked out for one another like sisters.
We were all in college now.
I majored in Business Administration because my dad wanted me to take over the family company someday. Emily studied Pharmacy, while Riley majored in Law.
By the time we arrived on campus, my nerves had already kicked in.
I checked myself one last time in the car mirror before stepping out.
Rhys and I shared the same major, which meant I saw him almost every day.
Honestly… that was both a blessing and a curse.
I knew everything about him.
Where he went after class.
Where he lived.
How he liked his coffee.
His favorite sport.
His signature scent.
Even the way he hid every emotion behind that cold, unreadable face.
Maybe it sounded creepy.
Okay, maybe it was creepy.
But when you’re hopelessly in love with someone, noticing every little thing about them becomes impossible to avoid.
I was obsessed with him.
And the worst part?
I loved it.
“Rise and shine, mate.”
I groaned the moment I heard that annoying voice.
Ethan.
“Starting my morning with your voice should honestly be illegal,” I muttered, taking my seat.
He placed a hand dramatically over his chest. “Excuse you? This voice is sexy.”
“Ew.”
We both burst into laughter.
Ethan was one of the few people around me who could always make me laugh, even when I didn’t want to.
Suddenly, the classroom atmosphere shifted.
Rhys walked in with Damien beside him.
My breath caught instantly.
His dark eyes landed on me for half a second before his expression hardened into a glare. Then he casually walked past me and sat across the room like I didn’t exist.
Still… I couldn’t stop staring.
God, he looked so unfairly attractive.
Mrs. Ivanov walked into class and immediately started teaching, but concentrating became impossible with Rhys sitting only a few feet away from me.
We were literally breathing the same air.
How was I supposed to focus?
“Ms. Addams.”
My heart nearly stopped.
I blinked and realized the entire class was staring at me.
Mrs. Ivanov adjusted her glasses. “Would you kindly stop staring at Mr. Black and pay attention?”
Laughter exploded around the classroom.
My cheeks burned with embarrassment, but Rhys didn’t even spare me a glance. He simply continued reading his book like none of this concerned him.
That somehow hurt more.
After class ended, I walked through the hallway absentmindedly until I suddenly crashed into something solid.
Or rather…
Someone.
I stumbled backward before looking up.
Dark eyes met mine instantly.
My breath hitched.
Rhys.
“R-Rhys…” I stuttered.
