Snake

1051 Words
It was mid-day when Wyatt thought it was best to call Pearl’s parents. As her father answered the phone he was grumpy and short with Wyatt since he could see it was Wyatt and not Pearl that called. “Yes, alpha, what can I do for you.” He tried his best to be respectful, not because he was her mate but because he was the alpha of the biggest pack in the area. As her mate he loathed him, he wanted so much more for his only child. Wyatt seemed hesitant but put on a firm tone as he spoke “I was wondering if Pearl is with you, we had an argument yesterday and she left the pack grounds.” He could hear her father quickly rustle with some things and he understood that he was moving around as he spoke “no alpha Wyatt, she did not come here, she did not call either.” Wyatt could hear the beta talking to his mate telling her that Pearl was missing, her mother gasped in the other end and Wyatt could hear their disapproval about the whole thing. Wyatt thought that the father could still hear him so he continued speaking “she left her phone here, so she wouldn’t be able to call.” On the other end, he heard Pearl's father apologize and seemed frustrated as he wanted more detail “I’m sorry, I didn’t catch that. What do we know so far?” Wyatt cleared his voice “she left her phone here, she left yesterday late afternoon. She hasn’t come back yet.” On the other end, he could hear her mother sob as she thought the worst right away and the beta trying to console her. Then he spoke back to Wyatt with urgency “we will be right there.” Then he hung up. Wyatt was concerned now, it seemed that no one knew where his mate was, and he was getting an eerie feeling about this. He felt guilty and like he was a bad mate for not protecting her better. He should have run after her and brought her home, but instead, he stayed back to lick his wounds. Not long after Pearl’s parents rushed into the pack house and met with Wyatt and his beta, they all gathered in the alpha's office. It didn’t take long until Pearl's parents were hurling accusations at the alpha and he had to work hard to diffuse the situation, he needed everyone calm and focused so they could get Pearl back safely. “Look, I get it. You guys think I’m a bad mate for your daughter, but right now that is not helping. We need to work together so we can find her and bring her safely home.” Pearl’s mom was sobbing and her mate tried to calm her by embracing her and stroking her back gently. Earl was mind-linking their lead warrior to start a search for their Luna, soon the forest was riddled with searching wolves. They all sniffed around to find leads, and soon they found the log that she had slept by that night. The trail then brought them to the edge of their lands, over to no man's land, where pack members were not allowed to go. It was filled with rogues and it was not safe to wander those parts. The warriors came running back with the news and soon the whole search party knew what had happened. With the scents they picked up, they knew that Pearl slept out in the woods, then she was surrounded by at least six rogues. Then she was taken off pack lands by those rogues, but they had still not searched to where the scent would lead. Alpha Wyatt was roaring in his office, he threw a fit and smashed several pieces of furniture as the news got to him that his luna was taken by rogues. The thing that he held the dearest had been taken from him, he had failed to protect her. His pride wasn’t so much hurt, it was his heart that was aching. He truly loved Pearl, and he could not live without her. A cold feeling crept down his spine as dark thoughts dawned on him. She could be hurt, tortured, r***d, or even killed. He could never forgive himself if Pearl was harmed in any way. Pearl's parents had notified their alpha and soon several warriors and scouts were sent to aid in the search. Within the hour both packs had several searches and retrieve groups ready. Alpha Wyatt and Beta Earl were hunched over a map to look at anything of interest in that area. They found no buildings or any other structures that the rogues could be hiding in. Wyatt pulled at his hair as he felt the time was slipping away and his mate could be lost forever. She hadn’t let him mark her so he couldn’t sense her. He had no idea if she was ok, in pain, or even dead, only marked mates could feel those things. He was furious that he hadn’t pushed the matter more and gotten her permission to mark her, while her parents wished that the alpha had never found their daughter. They all knew that Pearl could have been taken as early as last night, so that would have given the rogues many hours to do plenty of harm to her. With luck, they caught the a*******n soon after it happen and they could get to her unharmed. But as most people do in a crisis, they thought the worst right away. Pearl’s mom looked at Wyatt with a burning gaze, she had nothing but hatred for him and it showed on her face. Her words came out like venom “I hope you burn in hell alpha Wyatt, my Pearl would have been safe if it hadn’t been for you. Your arrogance and entitlement put Pearl into this situation, you are a snake! You are a selfish monster, I h a t e you!” She spat as she hurled the insults his way, Wyatt could do nothing but shrink as her accusations hit him. He felt like a monster, a selfish monster that drove his beautiful Pearl to run away.
