CHAPTER 1
MILE'S POV
I know life isn’t normal. We all have decisions, no, opportunities. Either our opportunity leads us to the job we always wanted, or the car we never thought we could get. My opportunity lead me to her.
She smelt of rain. Not the rain that drowns everything dead. But the rain that refreshes everything. The one that makes the roses stand out, the grass more…better.
But the horrible truth is, I’m the reason why life isn’t normal. I’m not human, well not fully.
I’m different I admit that, but I can’t admit that to her. Not now. Not when I just found her. She’s mine, but I can’t claim her, not when she’s a fragile human that could leave at any moment, love anyone at any second and be afraid of me at any minute.
I just have to lay low, watch from a distance. Make sure she’s safe, but also not vulnerable to these horny teenage boys.
That’s right, I’m 20 years old and a Beta to my brother’s pack. She’s 17 and a human who had no idea of what fate waits for her.
I heard someone say her name was…
ELLA’S POV
“Ella.” Lola my best friend brought me out of my thoughts. Thoughts that were occupied by the mysterious guy I kept seeing.
“Yes?” I replied with a bored tone, still thinking about the handsome specimen that I’ve been ‘accidentally’ seeing these pass days.
“Are you coming to my house after school or not?” She asked a bit annoyed, she was never good with patience. And being my friend meant you had to have a lot of it.
“Uh, yeah, sure. Whatever.” I replied paying no attention to my surroundings as we walked down the school hallway.
“You can’t change your mind now.” She replied hastily as she took off down the hall like a rocket.
I would say she ran because she was eager for next class, but I had a bad feeling she ran away so I couldn’t take back to whatever I agreed to, for what she had planned tonight.
Knowing her, she probably has some twisted adventure planned.
Just like when we were 12, she convinced me it would be fun to go search for ‘big foot’ at the park during night. We didn’t find big foot, but we did end up finding our way behind a police car.
Yeah, our parents called the cops when they found out we were missing. You’d think we would have learnt our lesson when we were taken away by police, but Lola, well being Lola, didn’t stop our adventures there.
There are more traumatised advents during these ‘adventures with Lola’. But if I named them all, I would be standing here with grey hair, and anxiety.
*************
“So, how was school today, sweetheart?” My mom said as she kept working on the dinner preparations.
“School was school.” I replied as I went to grab a bottle of water out of the fridge.
“Oh, and I forgot to tell you. I’m going to Lola’s tonight. Don’t wait up for me. Might stay the night.” I continued as I took a gulp of water. I didn’t realise I was this thirsty.
“Okay, be careful though honey.” She paused as she looked at me dead serious as she stopped cutting the vegetables. “We both know how her ‘Adventures’ turn out. It’s either the police or rumours about 2 spirits that eat children.”
I laughed at the last comment. Have you ever heard the stories your parents tell you to make you eat your vegetables? Well now they use me and Lola as the frightening story to make kids eat healthy. At least only in this town.
No one really knows it’s me and Lola, only both our parents. And neither of them is mad, at least my mom stopped being mad a month ago. She finally gave in to Lola’s unique personality, at least that makes 1 of us.
*********
“Finally, you’re here. Now get in.” Lola said as she dragged me in her house and shutting the door.
“Okay, okay.” I chuckled as I straighten out my jacket. “So, what’s the plan tonight?”
“Well...” She begins with a smirk and a lifted eyebrow.
‘Oh, no. I know this look. It means we’re going to be given a lift by the popo at the end of this ‘Adventure.’
“There’s stories going on that a girl saw a wolf, like a big large wolf.” She explains, and I know where this is going.
So, I walk over to the couch and sit down with my arms crossed.
“No, Nope, Nuuupah. Not gonna happen.” I replied as I turned my head away in sass. There was no way I was going to let her put me in a situation where I’m chasing a large dangerous dog.
“Oh, come on.” Lola begs with her puppy dog eyes on show, as she kneels before me.
I sit there for minute then I scoff and roll my eyes. “Fine.”
“Thank you!” Lola says enthusiastically while going in for a tight hug.
“But!” I explain as I look at her. “I’m driving.”
“Wouldn’t have it any other way. Seeing that I lost my license the last time we went on an adventure.”
I chuckled as the memory finding its way towards my thoughts.
“Okay.” I say as I get up off the chair and released by her death grip, I mean hug. “So, shall we get ready?”
“Okay, I got our outfits ready!” Lola replied with a bit of excitement in her eyes.
“Outfits?” I reply with a questioned look.
“Of course. We need to wear camouflage clothes if we wanna see up close to a wolf.” Then she paused and look into space, being dramatic of course. Then she put her hands up making an imaginary rainbow with it.
“A huge beautiful Wolf!” I chuckled at her dramatic scene.
“Okay, Romeo. Let’s get moving before it hits dark.” I said as I nudged her towards her room.
“Okay, okay. Let’s get this night started!” She replied as she put her hand up in the air, doing the breakfast club remake.
She was such a dork, but she was my dork.
