Chapter 1
Rose POV "Charisma please do not say that you've accidentally mixed the salt and sugar pots again. I told you that the sugar pot is to the left and the salt to the right. Remember, sweet and sour. Sweet to the left and sour to the right. Get it!!!" I commented and we both begin to laugh. She was trying to make cakes for the shop but ended up putting salt instead of sugar. She can be so stupid sometimes. "Your little comments are going to get you into trouble one day, Rose. Remember that." She reminds me everyday that I could get into trouble but to be honest I don't listen to anyone. It's me, what do they expect? You can take it or leave it. She looks over her shoulder and smiles before trying to make the cakes again. "Yes master. Remember master that salt in cakes don't work. Oh and master I'm going to be working on coffee orders. Is there anything else should I do for you, master?" I sarcastically replied. She loves my personality though. She groaned and I chuckled. It annoys the hell out of her but I know she secretly loves me and would struggle if I weren't here. "Oh haha. Very funny Rose. Let me get on with my job then we might actually get some profit." She snaps back and I flinch a little. She's never used this tone on me. "Woah missy, calm the hell down. What have I done wrong? Have I done something to upset you. I swear charisma I didn't mean to." I asked confused by the way she's treating me at the moment and I don't know if it's my fault or not. She glared at me giving me the 'are you serious' look. I just give her a questioning look that replied 'I don't actually know'. Her face softens but she still looks mad in her eyes. "Ugh Rose, we are meant to get our job done because we have a rich customer coming in today for his business meeting which he arranges once a year. You weren't here last year since you were ill but he shouts a lot and threatened the manager to fire three workers who kept flirting with him, otherwise he would close the shop for good. We have to make a good impression or else Becky might fire us." I nodded and headed to the coffee machine. Three people? That's really bad. Why would they flirt with him? It's their job to serve not to flirt unless he's like a Greek god or something but I don't care, I just need the money. I work for six days a week. I only get Sunday's off. I live on my own in a small apartment because my last roommate was my ex boyfriend. I've never had anyone here since. I just need time to myself most of the time. I'm one of those who thinks about their life. Which direction they want it to go. The only time I even get to think is during my sleep and on Sunday since I work from six in the morning to nine at night. From six to eight, I work at this cafe with mainly Charisma, Anna and Becky but occasionally Caroline. I've had men flirt with me a lot as well as lesbians but I'm too busy with my job to even consider mixing business with pleasure any day. Now you may think I earn a lot of money but i get paid once a fortnight on a Thursday. Think about it around five hundred pounds a fortnight. One hundred and fifty going to rent each week so that's three hundred gone plus electric, water and heating which is another hundred. Then I'm left with one hundred pounds to get food and bus fares. I don't rely on my parents because I don't want to be spoilt at all. I was given lots when I was younger but was never happy because I use to be bullied about getting given everything on a silver platter. They are millionaires after all but just because I don't rely on them doesn't mean I don't speak to them. Oh no, i still speak with them just maybe once a week. We talk about lots of things. They get me expensive birthday presents and Christmas presents but it's only twice a year not everyday. The only issue is I feel that they don't put a lot of their money to good use. They do the occasional charity donation but it's not as much as they should give. Anyway, enough daydreaming Rose, you have a job to do. So I decided to start making orders for coffee and other hot beverages. I take the order then make it with the help of co-worker Caroline. "Hey Rose you know that today is when that hot, rich, sexy billionaire is coming in?" She shudders. I nodded and she continues to talk about how he looks like a perfect male model. Ugh, seriously what is this obsession over a certain male specimen? I honestly don't know. She walked over to the assigned seating arrangements for today and checked which ones she was doing. I know mine is just thirteen, but thirteen was booked for three hours for today so they would only order a few times. "He's due in any minute. Oh shoot! Rose, he is on your table, table thirteen. I'll take over for you, if you want." I just replied with a curt 'sure'. She smiled hugely and I smiled back. She hugged me tightly. Oh unlucky number thirteen. "Thank you Rose, thank you so much." She practically bowed to me like I was saving her life but seriously this man whoever he is, is gonna reject her. She's too desperate. She won't get far with them. After a while a group of men in business suits come to the desk and Caroline sits them down. I'm guessing they are for the meeting. I went into the kitchen and started making more treats, only to see leaning against the wall was Charisma with her arms crossed in front of her chest. "You did not just let Caroline serve those men. Oh my gosh, you could have the hotties but no, you gave them to Caroline. You know that she is desperate for a boyfriend, she could get fired you know. Oh well not my problem." Why is she having a go at me for giving Caroline a chance to flirt, it's not like charisma hasn't done it before? Wait what does she mean that it's not her problem. Does she even care that Caroline might get fired? "Charisma I honestly didn't want them anyway. I'd rather not have them to be honest, they are typical billionaires. Also, do you really not care about Caroline at all?" She rolled her eyes and sighed. Honestly what does this girl expect me to do? She was so nice at one point then she just suddenly got strict. Does she have a bipolar disorder? I don't know for sure. I'm so sick and tired of people saying that I throw opportunities out of the window. It's not my fault that those opportunities are to act like a slave. "You should have taken them, this place may get a good review if you had done it. Anyway I don't really like Caroline, she's too... in your face type. If you get what I mean. She also is a very revealing girl. I know it's an attraction for male customers but to be honest it makes us look like hookers and not professionals. I'll be glad if she gets fired." I fake a gasp and look shocked. She didn't care about Caroline but to be honest neither did I. We weren't great friends. She thought of her as higher class where in all fairness we do exactly the same job and get paid the same. She brags how she use to live in New York until she had to move here. She claims that here is like a poor version of New York but in all fairness, I like it this way. "Oh my gosh Charisma doesn't like Caroline, such a shock. Never thought in my whole life that I would hear the start of this conversation. Put it on the calendar, today is the day!" I laughed and then so did she. We could always laugh after having a small argument, even though it's not even really that. It's more of a serious conversation. We needed time to relax and be happy. For the next half an hour, me and Charisma made chocolate brownies and decorated cupcakes. We didn't hear anything from Caroline at any point. We were both happy because once her conversations start, they don't end until after shift. Becky, our manager came into the kitchen and headed towards us. She looked annoyed with everything. "Hey Rose can you do the till, please. I know that Anna is meant to be on it but I just had to send her home because she threw up in the toilets." I nodded and followed Becky to the tills. She was stressing. "Also, why is Caroline on your table, Rose? It's your table. You know that I don't trust Caroline with men but you had to give her the table with all business men. What were you thinking?!" She asked and I jumped a little because I knew she was right. Damn it, maybe I should have taken my table. This could ruin the cafe. It's too late now, it's already done. "I'm sorry Becky but Caroline insisted that she'd do it because she wanted to help me out. I didn't realise how bad it would end up." She nodded while running her hand through her hair. She sighed then went back to the office. Now I'm alone with no one to talk to since I have no customers at the moment. The person who organised the meeting booked the whole cafe for three hours. There's still two hours left. Ugh I'm so gonna be passed out on the floor by how slow the time is going. All I can hear is the tick tock of the clock. Might as well wait two years. Just a coincidence that Anna had to be ill on the day of the meeting. I mean me and Anna were okay, we just talked like coworkers, nothing else. Table thirteen was in the private suite so many businessmen and women came to have meetings or kids have birthday parties. We ensured that only one worker would be in that room at a time. If anyone wanted anything that wasn't in the package deal, then they would have to come to the till and order it. Everything in the package deal was already in the room. It made it easier for whoever had to work there. One of the men came out of the room half an hour later and came straight towards me. Finally, I have an actual purpose. He wore a very smart outfit along with slicked back hair. He definitely looked like a businessman. He looked exhausted though and very tense. Maybe he could use something sweet to contrast his sour mood. Get it. Haha. "Can I please get a coffee, black with one sugar." I nodded and went to the nearest coffee machine. I punched in the type of coffee and it started making. Oh so he's all for the dry coffee taste? I can't stand it. I need milk in it. "Interesting meeting?" I asked to lighten up the mood. He didn't look very happy at all, in fact he looked stressed. "You could say that." He replied sounding serious but also bored with the whole thing. "Really? I thought meetings are usually boring but then I've only been in two." I said sarcastically. He looked confused by my little comment as I took the coffee out of the machine and put one sugar in. I smirked at his reaction. I stirred it quite a bit then handed it to him. "That will be two seventy-five, please." He handed me a five pound note and I went into the cash register to get his change. I gave him the two twenty-five change. "Hope you enjoy your meeting, sir." I smiled at him but he didn't return it. He was too stressed for anyone to notice any kindness. Gosh I was only trying to be polite. I'm never like that, anyone would realise that. Can he at least smile that I'm trying to make an effort. Is that really hard for him to manage? Gosh sometimes I wonder why I even bother?
