Chapter fourteen - New place for football meetings

2522 Words
Nate's POV: Olivia likes someone. I don't say that this is something bad, but now I can't do anything. I don't want her to forget or give up on her boy, no matter that she hasn't talked with him. At least this is what I understood. She might be shy, but this only makes her better. I like her and her personality. Now, this doesn't matter. There is already someone in her mind. I don't know why I care so much, but I do. I have never looked at her as something more than a friend, but now the thought of it hurts me. We are not dating, but part of me wishes that we did. Anyways, she is not the only girl on this planet. There are many more, but none of them will be like her. I thought that it takes more time to understand that you like someone, but I guess that this is not true. I met my Milkshake girl a month and a half ago. Now, I can't think about anything else. I don't know what she did to me, but it's working. Well, to be her friend is still something. Maybe not what I want, but it's better than nothing.  In the morning, I woke up ready to face school. I still can't believe that people in Olivia's old school are so cruel. I don't think that she has done anything bad. She is not this type of person. Maybe she should've moved from there earlier. This doesn’t mean that she was going to come to my school. Even if she did, I don't know would I notice her. If she was as shy as now, probably I was never going to see her. I won't think about this now. What is done is done. Maybe there is a reason why we met this summer.  I got out of bed and went to the bathroom. When I was done, I dressed and went for breakfast. I am not that hungry, but I will eat something. Otherwise, I have to wait until lunchtime and I'm not sure will I have time. Very soon the football season is starting, which means that our meetings start too. We had a place for them, but I don't know will we continue going there. The place is not bad, but the food before was better. After all, we are boys and we need food. Well, there are many diners in the town. I'm sure that we can find the right one.  I took food and sat next to my mom. She smiled at me and I returned it. I started eating. No one was talking. Usually, my parents ask questions about my day or what I will do, but not today. Well, that's why I thought.  - Nate, do you have any plans for today? - dad asked me - For now, no. Why? - I'm just asking.  - Soon the football season starts and we have to find a place for our meetings. The boys want food and drinks.  - You can go to a diner. There is enough space for the whole team. - mom said - I don't know. The decision is not mine.  - But you are the captain.  - This doesn't mean that I can do whatever I want.  - I'm just saying that since you are the captain you can suggest something or convince them. - Mom, teamwork doesn't work like that.  - You know better than me. Captain. - she said chuckling - Very funny mom.  I love my parents, but sometimes I feel like they don't understand what I am talking about. There is a chance that they do this on purpose. I can never be sure. I went to wash my dishes and mom followed me. Let's see what she wants to ask this time. I see that she doesn't want to do it in front of dad.  - Do you want to ask something? - How are things with your Milkshake girl? - Her name is Olivia.  - I know, but you always call her like that.  - Not anymore. She wanted the boys and me to use her real name in school.  - Ok, I understand why. Now, will you answer my question? - You know that there is nothing between us, right? - Are you sure? I think that she got in your head.  - So what? She is just my friend.  - I hope that you believe it.  - Can we stop talking about her? She is not that interesting.  - If she wasn't, you weren't going to think about her all the time.  I didn't say anything and walked away. I said goodbye to dad and walked out. After all, I don't want to be late for school. I hate when my mom is right. Usually, it's about things, which at first, I don't want to admit. Like Olivia for example. It's true that she is in my head, but I don't even know why. I am thinking too much about her. As I said, we are not dating so she can like whoever she wants. Even if that is not me.  Soon I arrived at school and saw the boys waiting for me. I walked up to them and all of us walked inside. In that moment, I saw Olivia standing by her locker. We made short eye contact and I smiled at her. She returned it. The boys looked at me, but I didn't say anything.  - Can we know what is going on between you two? I haven't seen you talk in a while. Is there a problem in paradise? - Henry, do you always need to know everything? - For my friends, yes. Now, spill the tea.  - There is nothing to spill. I just used our free day of school to go out with her. She had to go to her old school for something and let's say that people there made me think twice.  - What happened? - Tyler asked - They hate her. A lot more than needed. Olivia is that skinny, because of them. They were calling her fat and now a skeleton. This school changed her and what she thinks about herself. Now, she thinks that she is not pretty or good-looking, that there is something wrong with her, and much more.  - This is horrible. - I know. This is why she didn't want to tell me anything about it. She thought that I will feel sorry for her.  - Don't you? - I do. Olivia doesn't deserve this. I don't know her for a long time, but she doesn't seem like a bad person. Also, I understood that she likes someone.  - Oooh. Who? - Henry asked excitedly - I don't know. What she told me is that they have been studying together in middle school and that she started liking him in seventh grade. Later, they were separated, but she couldn't stop thinking about him. Until today. Sadly, she is too shy and never sent him a message. Olivia told me that she is checking him on social media. This is her only way to know what is going on with him. - This is sad. She is a nice girl and deserves to be happy. - Tyler said - It's her choice anyways.  - Are you jealous? - Henry asked me - Why should I be? I know her only for a month and a half.  - That's enough to fall for someone.  - Not for me. Let's go now. I don't want to be late.  We walked into class and I saw Olivia sitting alone. I want to sit with her, but I don't know what to tell her. I don't want an awkward silence between us. She looked at me and gave me a small smile. Ok, she won me. I sat next to her and I noticed how she immediately blushed. I have to admit that she is cute when she is blushing.  On the lunch break, we went for food. I was hungry. Olivia, the boys, and I sat at one table. Soon Mason and the rest of the team came to us. Great. I guess that the season is starting early. I just want a nice, peaceful lunch. Do I want that much? I gave a look to the boys, but they only shrugged their shoulders.  - How can I help you, Mason? - We need to start with our meetings and to find a new place. The food sucks in our old one.  I was about to say something, but Olivia was first.  - Boys, can I offer you a place? - Yes. By the way, who are you? - Mason asked her - I am Olivia Brown. I came this year.  - Ok, where is your place?  - Do you want your meetings to be in one milkshake shop? The owner sells only milkshakes, but I can guarantee you that they are the best in town. There is no food, but you can buy and eat it there. What do you think? - It's doesn't sound bad, but the fact that we have to buy food and take it all the way to our place isn't promising.  - You can order it.  - We'll think about this.  - I know for which place she is talking about. I have been there a couple of times with Henry and Tyler. I have to admit that the milkshakes are good.  - Ok, then. Tomorrow is our first meeting. We'll be there.  - Perfect. Bye boys. - I said and they left - Good job Olivia. - Tyler said - After all, I have to promote our shop. - she said smiling - But you have to be ready for one hungry and loud football team. - Henry said - I think that I can handle it.  We walked for our last couple of classes. Olivia was in all of them. Tyler and Henry were in our pre-last. I saw that she was happy. I am sure that it's because of the team. I mean these are almost twenty people. We usually do our meetings twice a week. Sometimes more often. It depends on the team with who we'll play. Later, I offered Olivia to come home with me, and luckily, she agreed. Well, mostly we'll study, but when we finish, we can watch something. I don't know what is her favorite type of movie, but she can tell me.  - With what do you want us to start? - How about Literature? - Ok, no problem. We have to write an essay over "Why reading books is important?". - I suggest you both of us write it and then swap and read them. That way we can give ideas to each other.  - I like your idea.  After an hour, both of us were done. I have to say that we wrote almost the same things. I guess that we think the same. To be honest, there wasn't anything that I can add. I think that her essay is good. I don't know will the teacher think the same. Olivia didn't say anything about mine as well. We continued studying for like two hours. She was helping me from time to time or when I didn't understand something. I have to say that she is great at explaining.  - Ok, that's enough for today. I am tired.  - Not only you. - she said chuckling - Do you want us to watch something? I can make popcorn.  - Why not? I have to be home for dinner so we have time.  - You can have dinner with us if you want. Well, my parents or to say my mom might ask you many questions again, but don't mind her.  - It's fine. I just don't want to bother you.  - You won't bother me. Actually, I will be happy if you stay. Later I can send you home.  - Ok, then. I will stay for dinner. - she said and blushed I went to make popcorn and told her to choose the movie. After five minutes, I came back and sat next to her. We will watch a movie called "F the prom". I have never heard of it, but the title got me. I put the bowl between us and she played it. Very soon, the bowl was empty and I put it on the coffee table in front of us. Olivia moved a little bit closer and I get what she wants. I didn't say anything and wrapped my hand around her so she can snuggle. I don't know why girls love this. I have never done it, but it feels good. At the end of the movie, I looked at her and saw that she was sleeping. I won't lie that she sleeps cute. It turned out that the movie wasn't that bad. I liked it.  My parents came home. Mom looked at me with a smirk, but I didn't tell her anything. I only said that Olivia would stay for dinner. Luckily, none of them minded that. When the dinner was ready, I tried to wake up my Milkshake girl, but she didn't want to. Instead, she made herself comfortable and continued sleeping. I would love to leave her to sleep how much she wants, but we have to eat. - Milkshake girl, you have to wake up.  - I want to sleep.  - But my mom made us dinner.  - Your parents are at home! - she said surprised and quickly got up - Don't worry. They won't mind you. Moreover, they already saw you sleeping. - I said chuckling - Why didn't you wake me up? - Because you sleep cute. - I said smiling and saw her blushing again Both of us went into the kitchen and sat at the table. My parents smiled at Olivia and she returned it. I know that she is nervous, but there is no reason for her to be. I grabbed her hand under the table and smiled at her. The dinner was delicious. My mom is a great chef. This time she wasn't asking so many questions. Later, Olivia and I watched one more movie. Then I send her home. At first, she didn't want to, but I convinced her.  I have to admit that I love spending time with Olivia. She is a great person and I feel good when she is around. I mean that she is not from the girls who walk after me. Maybe one day I can understand how I feel. I think that I like her, but I am not sure. I don't want to give Olivia high hopes. The more time we spend together, the more I feel good when is she around. We'll see how this will go. I won't do anything for now. Mostly, because she likes someone. Yes, she might blush when I am with her, but this doesn't mean anything. I'm not her boy.
