Azura Vale has always known she was different. Strange instincts, unnatural awareness, and a life shaped by secrets she was never allowed to understand.

But everything changes the night she is attacked—and saved by a man who should have never crossed her path.

Kael Draven, a powerful Alpha bound by duty and a promised mate, finds himself tied to a girl he doesn’t know… yet cannot ignore. When his blood awakens something ancient within her, their connection becomes more than unwanted—it becomes dangerous.

As buried truths begin to surface, Azura discovers she is not merely different.

She is something far older.

Something that was meant to stay sealed.

Now hunted by enemies, feared by allies, and bound to an Alpha who refuses to accept her, Azura must uncover the truth of what she is—before the power within her destroys everything.

Including him.

But the greatest danger is not what she is becoming.

It is what happens if she is ever fully awakened without him.

CHAPTER1- BEFORE THE AWAKENING.
Laughter rang through the garden, bright and unrestrained, echoing against the stone walls like a melody too pure to last. The ground was still damp from the earlier rain, the scent of wet earth rising softly into the cool evening air. Little Azura ran barefoot across the yard, her tiny feet splashing through shallow puddles without care. Mud clung to her soles, streaking up her ankles, but she didn’t notice—didn’t care. Her dark curls bounced wildly behind her, loose and untamed, catching the fading light as she moved. She looked like freedom. Like something the world had not yet learned how to cage. “Slow down, Azura!” her mother called from behind, breathless but laughing despite herself. “You’ll get hurt!” But Azura only laughed harder, her voice light and teasing as she glanced back over her shoulder. “Catch me if you can, Mama!” And she ran faster. Her small legs carried her across the compound, weaving around stone benches and flower beds, her joy infectious and wild. There was something almost untouchable about her in that moment. Something more than childish energy—something involuntary. As if the world itself moved slightly to make room for her. Ismena slowed, pressing a hand to her chest to catch her breath. Her long dark hair clung lightly to her temples, and though she smiled, there was something else behind her eyes. Something fleeting, something worrisome. She watched her daughter carefully—not just as a mother watching a playful child, but as someone searching for something or perhaps hoping not to see it. Then she turned—and saw him. Caelum. Relief softened her expression almost instantly. “Ahh, there you are,” she said, walking toward him with a tired smile. “Please go get your daughter for me. She isn’t properly dressed, and she might catch a cold in this weather.” She gestured toward the muddy little whirlwind still running freely. “You’re the only one she listens to.” Caelum chuckled softly, the sound warm and steady, like everything about him. He leaned forward and pressed a gentle kiss to her cheek. “Don’t worry, amor,” he murmured. “We’ll be right behind you.” Ismena gave him a look—half amused, half warning. “Well, you better be,” she replied, though her tone had softened. “Dinner is almost ready, and I am not reheating it twice.” He smiled, watching her as she turned and headed back inside, her presence lingering even after she disappeared through the doorway. For a moment, his expression shifted. Just slightly. The softness remained—but beneath it, something sharper flickered. Something thoughtful. Then he turned his attention back to the yard. To her. Azura had slowed now, spinning in circles in the middle of the compound, arms stretched wide as if she could catch the wind itself. Her laughter softened into breathless giggles, her small chest rising and falling as she came to a stop. That was when she felt another presence. She turned—and saw him. Her entire face lit up even more. “Papa!” She didn’t hesitate. She ran straight toward him, her muddy feet forgotten, her arms already reaching. He opened his arms just in time to catch her as she collided into him, lifting her easily off the ground. She wrapped herself around him without restraint, burying her face into his shoulder. “Papa! Papa!” she squealed, her voice full of pure joy. “Ohh, I’ve missed you, Papa!” He laughed, holding her securely, his hand brushing gently through her tangled curls. “Ohh, silly girl,” he said softly. “I just went to work.” “I know…” she mumbled, pulling back just enough to look at him, her eyes wide and serious in a way that didn’t quite match her age. “But you left so early, and I didn’t see you when I woke up.” She tightened her grip around his neck. “I missed you so much because I haven’t seen you for the wholeee day,” she dragged the word dramatically. “And that’s too long.” Caelum let out a deeper laugh this time, his chest rising with it as he held her closer. “My princess,” he said warmly, tapping her nose lightly. “I’ve missed you just as much.” She smiled at that—bright, satisfied, whole. For a moment, he just looked at her, really looked at her. The way her eyes seemed to catch the light differently, and the way her energy lingered in the air even when she stood still. At something he didn’t dare name. His smile remained—but it didn’t quite reach as deeply as before. Then he exhaled softly and shifted her in his arms. “Tell you what,” he said, his tone playful again. “Why don’t I make it up to you with some cookies?” Her eyes widened instantly. “But…” he added, raising a finger dramatically, “we need to have dinner first, or your mama is going to punish us both.” Azura gasped softly, then giggled, covering her mouth as if it were the most serious threat in the world. “Okay, Papa,” she said quickly, nodding. “Let’s gooo!” He set her down, but she didn’t let go of his hand. And he didn’t pull away. --- As they walked toward the house together, the sky above them shifted slowly into dusk. The clouds parted just enough for the moon to peek through—pale and watchful. Azura glanced up at it briefly. Something in her expression stilled just for a second. Her steps slowed slightly, her small fingers tightening around her father’s hand. Caelum noticed. “Azura?” he called gently. She blinked, then looked back at him, smiling again as if nothing had happened. “Yes, Papa?” He studied her for a moment. Then smiled. “Nothing,” he said. And they made their way inside. --- Behind them, the wind shifted. The trees at the edge of the compound rustled softly, though no one was there to hear it. Or perhaps something was. Watching, waiting. For the day she would no longer run freely in the light—but awaken to what she truly was.
