The Meeting
Soli's POV: The closer they get to this business meeting, the more Soli and her wolf felt uneasy. Safira is pacing and whining constantly in her head. "Mom, you never did tell me what this meeting is about. I feel a little apprehensive," Soli relayed. Her mother released a small giggle and began, "Soli, Soli, Soli.. your father was killed because he was the alpha to his pack and instead of protecting us, he protected the pack. Solimon left me to go in search of his fated mate. I have come to realize that werewolves are more loyal to their own kind, so instead of you just up and leaving me, I've decided to make a profit off of you. Don't even think of running. The chauffeur is a top warrior, and that black SUV behind us is also full of warriors. You won't get far, so just accept your fate." My head was spinning; my own mother was selling me; selling me into what? "Safira, now's the time for us to show ourselves," I begged with her through our mind. "Soli, we are strong, but we must make it through this to find mate. Trust me Soli, please," she responded before she retreated to the back of my mind. As we pulled up in front of what appears to be a posh restaurant, I see no cars parked anywhere around. That's strange because it's Friday, this restaurant should be booming. After the amount of time we traveled to get here, I believe we're in Wystow. It's a rather big city compared to Ennis. "Well, hell, mom, let's get out. After the way you've treated me since Solimon left, I'm sick of looking at you. You were ignorant to think that when we grew up that we wouldn't be wolves. How f*cking delirious can you be? You were mated to a wolf, an alpha wolf at that. Wolves are meant to live amongst their kind. Solimon and I are alphas; I swear to the Moon Goddess I will pay you back for this ten fold," I seethed. "You little b***h. I raised you, I've made sure you had food on the table, I provided for you, so how dare you speak to me like that," Angela scowled. A mother doesn't do this to her children, so from now on I'll refer to her as Angela. "I've read the stories, Angela. I know that when a wolf looses their mate, they go feral. But you're human. So I know for a fact that you can't blame this heartless act on losing dad," I educated her. She was fuming. About that time, the chauffeur let down the sliding glass that separates him from us. "Madam Angela, Brandon Scots and his entourage await you both inside. Malcolm is outside your door to make sure you both get inside without injury," the chauffeur announced. Oh, s**t, here we go, I thought to myself. Angela stepped out of the car first, running her hands down her dress trying to get the wrinkles out. I followed behind, but I refused to walk behind her. I'm an alpha, damnit, I cower behind no one. The inside of the restaurant was dark and empty. There are a few lights on in what looks like a small dining room to the rear of the establishment. As we walked inside the dining room, Safira felt anxious and scared. I wanted to comfort her, but I couldn't risk the strangers in the room noticing me talking to her. I tried to send her as much encouragement as I could muster up, but I couldn't deny I felt the same. A man a few inches shorter than I stood and pulled out our chairs for us, and as he did so began "Angela, it's a pleasure to see you again. Soli, I'm Brandon Scots, it's a pleasure to meet you." My mother, I mean Angela knew this man. What the hell is going on? I noticed everyone staring at me. "Where are my manners? I suppose I don't need to introduce myself seeing as that you know my name already. I can't say that it's a pleasure seeing as how you're purchasing me from Angela," I spoke confidently. Oops, I seemed to have pissed everyone off, oh f*****g well. "Soli, do not speak to him like that. Brandon is not buying you, you ridiculous girl. He's here to assist me with getting top dollar for you at the auction," Angela defended. After a well thought out meal of lots of protein and carbs, I was curious about what was to happen next. "So what now, Angela?" I enquired. She looked at me with so much hatred. "Soli, I'm not going to lie, this is something that is done across the world. When a wolf is mated to a human, if the human leaves the pack with any children the wolf and human conceived, the wolves want these children back. Several years ago, the auction began. Yes, you will go to the highest bidder, however, it will be your own people buying you back. It is a win win," Brandon explained. This is ridiculous. Instead of them just letting me go back to my home, they have to profit off of me. The feeling of doom just set in; I likely won't get to return to my home, my pack. "I just got confirmation that our transportation has arrived. My people will take us to my private air strip. From there, we will take my jet to our destination. There will be a team on board to get you ready for the auction. I know you don't want to hear this, Soli, but you really must comply. Once Angela puts you on the docket, all the packs present will have their eyes on you. You want to present yourself with dignity. Your life depends on it," Brandon informed. "I don't understand why you are speaking to me so calmly, like this is normal, and giving me thoughtful instructions, like you care," I stated. "Regardless of what you may think of me, I am not a monster. Angela and I are profiting from the auction of you, but I took it upon myself many years ago to help the auctionees. In the past, the treatment of the wolves being auctioned was horrendous. They were r***d and beaten and then graded on their worth. A group of us petitioned for a change. Just keep in mind that although those things aren't allowed anymore, there are still bidders who can and will treat you badly if they have the winning bid. That is why it's so important for you to behave so as the bidders who aren't monsters will pay attention to you," Brandon exclaimed. "I know that our relationship is not what it used to be, what it should be. You were bound to leave me eventually to rejoin your kind. I'm sure you hate me right now. Truth be told, I hate me to. I won't have you or your brother to help me. I will be all alone to run the diner. And then what comes of me and the diner when I'm to old to manage it? I know this is harsh, but I'm trying to take care of my future when it's so clear neither of my children has any intention of being a part of it," Angela rambled. She was feeling guilty, good. But there are so many other decisions she could have made. "I can slightly see where you're coming from. However, you decided what kind of relationship we were to have all on your lonesome. I never wanted to leave you behind. My birthday is in two days; I was expecting you to be by my side when I transitioned for the first time. Nevermind any of that, what about your future grandchildren? Did you ever even consider it? Money is what this is about, right, so when you decided to retire, you could have sold the diner for a hefty profit. You then could have decided to return to us and spend the rest of your life spoiling your grandkids. You let your momentary feeling of abandonment cloud your judgement. You began mistreating me. Then to top it all off, you cooked this crap up," I spoke harshly. I could see the truth of the matter finally clicking in her mind. The severity of the situation sinking in. She was now realizing her mistakes and saw that she had a completely different road she could have driven her crazy bus down. With tears in her eyes, she asked "how can I fix this Brandon? I'm ashamed to admit that I never even thought of the future my daughter just spoke about. I'm even more ashamed of how I treated her. I thought it would be easier for her to accept this if she hated me." I could see Brandon thinking on his words carefully. I knew I was not getting out of this because my wolf's nervousness was not calming down any. He looked at the both of us like he was determined to break the news softly. "Angela, there's no going back from this decision. Once we formed our agreement and I informed the auction chairman of our entry, it was a verbal contract. If we don't attend, they will kill us all. There is a few things we can do. Angela, as Soli's mother, you can stay with her to make sure she behaves. In truth, you will keep your ears open and report everything to me. I know some of the wolves that will be present. They're only interested in returning wolves back to the werewolf world in which they belong; they have deep pockets and aren't afraid to throw their money around for the right cause. After the auction, Soli you need to be able to control your firey personality. You will have to perform your first shift without anyone whom you know and trust so let your wolf do the decision making. Trust her instincts and your own. You are an alpha; your senses will be strong. While you're doing your best to keep yourself safe, your mom and I will travel to Tennessee and find your brother. We will find you," Brandon commanded. I wasn't sure I held his same confidence, but I was sure Safira and I can handle this. As we head to the air strip, we made a few more preparations. Angela kept apologizing. I know in my heart that eventually, I will forgive her, but right now, I have to focus on this auction.
