Chapter 4“Sorry,” Jolly said as he unlocked his front door to let us into his house. “That was probably a d**k move taking you away from your family the first night you’re here.” “Nah.” He flicked on a lamp on an end table. “And while you were tree-trimming no less.” Jolly sighed and put his coat on the couch as we entered his living room. “It’s just, ever since your mom spilled that you were coming home, well, I’ve been thinking about seeing you.” “Hmm. Any particular reason why?” We headed for the kitchen, holding our covered mugs of hot cocoa courtesy of Mom. Presumably, that’s where the schnapps was. Jolly shrugged. “Reconnect? We were best friends once.” “A long time ago.” I saw him wince a little. “Does that mean you aren’t interested in a friendship now?” I shook my head.
